They could've cut Hurns at any time. If there was someone they wanted and they needed to use the money allocated for Hurns, they would've cut him dead on the spot. That wasn't the case.

So they cut him now when there is no market for them or the player. Makes sense.

The opposite is true.  WR market is better for him now that the supply is dry.  He's likely to get more money and interest now that the cupboard is bare.

"Strong market expected for him." - Adam Schefter

Ohhh, You don't say.

I, for one, certainly did not find it curious when Hurns removed all his Jaguar affiliations from his social media profiles.

I'm not that dumb.
You were loved as a Jag. Hope he finds his place elsewhere. Goodbye Allen Hurns.
I'd like to see him go to Chicago
Caldwell signed Hurns as a rookie UFA. Same with Cole. I'm confident that Caldwell will find another hidden gem in the draft at WR. He does seem to have a knack for ID'ing talent at that position.
The Allens are no more.

One could almost say they never were.

When he's healthy is probably a big factor in this release, especially with the concussion concerns. Lee is ascending.  Hurns is an expensive #3 or 4 receiver at this point.

While I agree about the health part factoring into Hurns' release, I totally disagree about Lee ascending. He has peaked. He is what he is. An average #2 or #3 receiver that this team covets as a #1 for some unknown reason.
Point blank: Hurns couldn't run good enough. And his catches weren't that spectacular to justify.

He couldn't bring any worry from a DB. If you don't have freak size, you better have at least above average speed. Something even Lee doesn't have and I'm surprised he was brought back. At best he's a #3 WR.

Even Mickens brings a speed, quickness, and fluid of motion, AROB nor Hurns have.

Arob and Hurns were ALMOST a throwback to the days of Reggie Williams and Ernest Wilford. You may have a good season, but lacking the speed and fluid of motion required, no long term success is possible.

If you look at his career track record... he's arguably better at scouting and selecting WR than any other position.

I share your sentiment.

And to add to that, he's probably also good at knowing when to say goodbye as well.

Makes complete sense. I noticed how his twitter account was slowly being dissolved of anything Jags related about combine time.
Hurns wanting to be released and Robinson's contract demands along with his unwillingness to negotiate makes Lee's contract make more sense.

I think the organization wanted to have a veteran option on the roster that was familiar with Bortles. Lee became the only viable option and the WR market forced them to overpay to keep him.

Talk about a guy who got somewhat healthy and productive at the right time.

From what Caldwell was saying, his priority was Lee and a WR to pair with him.  They wanted to get a deal with ARob, but weren't close on numbers.  Moncrief was the next guy on their list, and they got him.

Lee was not a "settle for" or leftover.  He was part of plan A.

Hurns was a goner from the start, unless he was going to take a pay cut.

Not my opinion, it's what the club and others have reported.
Well that didn't last long. This team has always had the inability to find a long term solution at WR. I'm honestly surprised they resigned Lee and not Robinson; Lee has never impressed me, nor does he have good chemistry with Bortles. I expect another WR or two drafted within the first 4 rounds
Robinson didnt want to be here, him and blake didnt get alone.. at least on the field anyways. it would of taken way more money then he is worth to get him to stay and that might not of even done it

That doesn't change the fact that the situation with Hurns and Robinson left Lee as the only viable option if they wanted to retain a veteran WR on the roster.

Lee has had the best chemistry with Bortles of any receiver over the last two years.

It's crazy how much people undervalue Lee. I guess that's the internet age though. Weak minds see an opinion from some figure head and then they all parrot it enough until somehow that becomes the label, even though it's inaccurate.

Lee has had a few bad drops but the whole drop rate is overblown.

Anyone who truly thinks hurns brings more to the table than Lee needs to just stop talking about football.

This. Lee and bortles are tight on and off the field. If you go back and look through my posts after the season ended, I listed that as a big reason that I was confident that Lee would be given a new deal.

And just like hurns was a udfa, there will be more WRs that make the team and produce to the level of hurns, or if not quite his level, something  close for millions of dollars less. Late round picks, undrafted, etc...

I'm not saying Lee isn't more valuable than Hurns.

I am saying if they were able to strike deals with Hurns and Robinson the money they would be willing/able to offer Lee could have changed significantly. They may have wanted him, but Lee may have felt he could get more on the open market and the jags may have been forced to let him test the market if he wanted to. With Hurns and Robinson off the table, this gave them the ammo and the urgency to make sure Lee never made it to the open market.

2017
Hurns 39 catches 484 yards 2 TDs
A-Rob 1 catch 17 yards 0 TDs

We got worse?
