Aikman GM
Romo HC?

But seriously...
I'm not opposed to the idea. Elway for all his problems, seemingly maybe has hit on Drew Lock finally after a couple misses. But we've seen plenty of GMs miss on QBs. It's a bit of a crap shoot sometimes.
Aikman has always had pretty solid analysis of teams and their players. He also knows what kind of coach would get a team to follow him. And he'd likely know who to contact to fill out a staff for the type of roster we have (or will have).
I'd be all for Aikman at GM. Doubt he would want to come here though.
I like Romo as a potential offensive coordinator. I don't know about Aikman being a GM though. Funny enough. After Mike Mayock got his job with the Raiders. The next name that most people expect to eventually land a job is Daniel Jeremiah. Hopefully it's not us. I could see Khan Jr. making a run for him. Because it's Khan Jr. . .

DJ was asked to interview for the Jets. He turned it down. He likes being a TV analyst. It's easier and he won't be fired for making the wrong mock pick.

Personally I love the idea of Romo's mind on a coach staff... Dunno if he has "coach Romo" in him though.

I like the idea of Louis Riddick as a GM... a lot of people are tossing around names of 2nd in commands from good teams FO (like KC and Baltimore) but remember, Caldwell was 2nd in command from a very good Falcons team and he didn't do much here. Eventually requiring Tom as babysitter and *flush* down the toilet we go again.

Not sure there is a right way... just need a bit of luck.

No chance Romo leaves and I highly doubt he's a good OC anyway.

Romo is getting paid insane amounts of money by CBS and he golfs whenever he wants. Living the dream.

Romo is awesome. I enjoy his commentary. Hopefully he gets a play-off game or two. At some point I wouldn't mind Troy Aikman & Tony Romo commentating together.
Would anyone consider Troy Aikman as GM?

A few posts in this very thread on that.

Is Troy Aikman a viable candidate? I've never heard anything impressive from him.

What do you think teams look for now with a GM? It seemed quite a hard job too break into for ex-players or coaches unless they became like Belichick and did 2 jobs.

The main things seem to be player evaluating with drafts and free agents, managing contacts, signing free agents and HC. It has changed a bit in recent years with Elway, Lynch and Mayock. I like Riddick, he could be a good fit. Good judge of young talent.

But I really agree with the luck part. But the GM decision is a really important decision Khan has to get right first.
Keep in mind how much these guys (like Aikman and Romo) make being in the booth. Good money. I think it would really take the right opportunity/money for them to come down from their positions. Not sure Jacksonville would be a spot they would choose over their current spots.

Agreed.

Jacksonville will most likely be at the bottom of every new hire list and rightfully so. They don’t have many things that are appealing other than being an NFL team.

Could have said the same thing about Gruden.  Got paid a ton of money to talk about what other coaches are doing wrong.  Besides, considering none of them have ever coached or been a GM, they may need a place like Jacksonville to give them a shot as opposed to a more established well run franchise.

Although havent been following the talk so not sure why anyone thinks these two would be any good as a coach or GM.  Not sure being a good TV analyst is a qualifier.

Gruden got 100 million dollars lol
I don't give a damn who they bring in. For right now, as long as it's a change from the current regime..

I wouldn't say that. They could always bring in someone like Hue Jackson. That WOULD NOT be good.
I'm not expecting much, who ever we get. Normally, when a new coach is hired on a poor offensive team and they have a high pick, they are at least promised that they will be getting a new QB, via the draft. That almost certainly will not be the case here. Who ever comes in is saddled with Foles, because of his huge contract and Minshew. The team is gonna give Foles every chance to succeed next year, because they don't wanna admit they made another boneheaded move at QB. I just don't see it working out though and I see him sitting behind Minshew, yet again. So whichever coach we get, won't have a new QB until probably 2021. That is not a situation I would want to step into at all. You're almost guaranteed to be bad in 2020. I hate to break the news, but we are probably in for another re-tread coach with a losing record as a HC or maybe we get lucky and get a first time HC who takes the job out of desperation to prove himself and is given time to play with "his QB" in 2021. I'm desperately hoping for option 2. Either way though, I'm not expecting much from our offense in 2020. As long as we see improvement defensively and we can protect the passer better and open some running lanes on a consistent basis, no matter how we finish, I'll consider it a success.

With this team?

The roster is so bad, he'd get another concussion the first time he facepalms.

Haha.

I really do believe that upgrades at LT, RG, NT, MLB, CB would instantly make this roster "competitive."
That's do-able in an offseason even if it's a very tall order due to the number of premium positions. So - they won't all be all-pro candidates - some will just be marginal upgrades.

To get beyond "competitive" into "division contenders" they'll need a few more pieces and of course QB is still a looming question mark that may need to be included in that list.

The right staffing and roster additions could see this team at .500 in 2020 and contenders in 2021 IMO.
QB coach Scott Milanovich headed to the CFL.
