With Coughlin gone, Marrone needs to be next. Doug needs to be gone for two reasons: he has kept Wash and his damnable soft zone and the OL, which is supposed to be his baileywick, has been broken the whole time he’s been here. Caldwell can stay unless you find an elite talent to replace him.

But now I wonder if Marrone and Caldwell should be fired--there's a stronger argument for Marrone. But Caldwell--you could argue that he drafted the DROY and OROY last year. And his 2018 draft featured some good players too - Harrison, Chark, Logan Cooke, Jacobs. I know people are disappointed with Bryan, but how much of that was due to Coughlin's influence?
The main argument for firing Caldwell is that he drafted Bortles too high and held on to him too long - passing on Watson and Jackson. Again, who knows how much influence Coughlin had over that decision when he was here?
Marrone and both Coordinators need to hit the bricks.

It honestly doesn't matter at this point how great/bad Caldwell is..... This needs to be a clean sweep for the first time in a long time. I mean we still have Gus Bradley coaches with this team!
Quote: Some would say the statement issued by Khan on Tuesday implies that their fate hinges on the remainder of the season. “My expectations and those of our fans, for our final two games and the 2020 season, are high,” Khan said.
Common sense arguably suggests otherwise. Surely, Khan won’t be hinging the future of his franchise on a final exam of sorts consisting of two games played by a team that has nothing for which to play. The fact that he made a decision to move on from Coughlin earlier this year potentially implies that he made a decision to keep Marrone and Caldwell.
If so, it’s the right decision. As explained earlier this month, Caldwell and Marrone discovered and groomed, respectively, rookie quarterback Gardner Minshew, who could become the team’s franchise quarterback with a full offseason to grow into the job as the unquestioned No. 1. There’s value in keeping in place the people who are responsible for Minshew’s presence on the roster, because a new G.M. and/or a new coach likely would want their own guy, and that guy may not be Minshew.

Is Florio intoxicated? Or obviously just not been around this team every week like we have? He thinks it's the right decision to hold on to BOTH Marrone and Caldwell?! Seriously?

The guy is speculating. He doesn't know [BLEEP].
My speculation that Coughlin was fired for the controversy over circumventing NFLPA holds just as much credence.
Marrone and Caldwell have nothing to do with why Coughlin was fired.
Two completely different issues.

Sometimes, especially at this time of the year, we get a severe dose of "Firing Fever".
No, Marrone and Wash HAVE to go at the very least. I think a solid argument could be made for saying goodbye to Caldwell as well, even though he's brought talent to this team. He's also hurt this team with incredibly shortsighted decisions on coaching staff hires.
Plus I think it's really time to bring in a new GM with a new staff of coaches wanting to bring in a new, faster paced offensive template.
Here's some of the notworthy guys Caldwell has drafted. I won't deny that he's missed on first round picks. But with a very good coach, you could build the foundation of a very good team with this bunch.
A-Rob
Chark
Minshew
Jack
Ramsey
J. Allen
Nagkoue
Telvin Smith
Harrison
Cooke
Fournette
Lambo
Linder
Richardson
Smoot
Jawaan Taylor
Hurns
Jacobs
Abry Jones
Westbrook
Colvin
Cyprien
Keelan Cole
Bryan
Cyprien

A-Rob (no longer here)
Chark
Minshew
Jack (fans don't have a high opinion of this player, especially at the MLB spot, big money contract didn't work out in our favor)
Ramsey (no longer here)
J. Allen
Nagkoue (pay the man?)
Telvin Smith (no longer here, really wasn't good in last season here, big money contract didn't work out in our favor)
Harrison
Cooke (we talking about a punter?)
Fournette (eh... good not great, should have pick CMC or Cook, probably won't get a 2nd contract)
Lambo (he didn't draft him, was cut by bolts and replaced Myers)
Linder
Richardson (he ain't nobody special, can't even beat out Cann for a jonb)
Smoot (ok role player I guess)
Jawaan Taylor
Hurns (UDFA not a draftee)
Jacobs
Abry Jones (nothing special)
Westbrook
Colvin (was a stud for a bit, no longer here... not really sure where he is after tinhorns cut him)
Cyprien (WHAT? This dude sucked for the majority of his time here)
Keelan Cole
Bryan (as in... Taven Bryan?)
As I said before...
Just OK is not OK.
Caldwell has had a hand in creating the roster that currently isn't good enough. Tom surely handicapped him the past couple years but no excuses because without his failures prior to 2017 there wouldn't have been so much of a need for Coughlin.
Numerous FA signings haven't worked out. Numerous first rounders not good enough.
A terrible pick of a QB. A terrible extension for said QB. And a bad deal for an average at best Foles.
His history just isn't good enough to warrant retaining him.
To me the most prudent thing to do would be a clean sweep. If they keep Marone then it has to be set in stone that Wash is no longer a part of the coaching stable and whoever is the OL coach also has to go.

This is awful. Most of those players on the list are mediocre at best, and given the fact that Caldwell has been here since 2013 - it's really a pathetic list. Just more justification to do a clean sweep and get rid of everyone.
Rethinking for a second, there is one thing that can get a GM fired and that is missing on a Franchise QB. Basically, when you draft a franchise QB you are tying your job to that guy. I'm not saying that people should have another chance, but most of the time when a GM says this guy is our franchise and they miss on him, they generally don't get another chance with that organization to miss on another one. So while Caldwell has drafted some good players, he's missed on the position that can cost a person their job.

I keep kicking it around. But I really like the idea of bringing in a pair of like minded personnel from one franchise.
Paton and Stefanski with the Vikings.

Borgonzi and Bieniemy with the Chiefs.
Those are my top two pairs to target starting on Black Monday. Depending on how these teams perform in the play off's would also be a determining factor.
Another few candidates to consider. Rick Smith, formerly of the tinhorns. I like him. I think he could help us out within three to four years.
Another name. And it's coming way out of left field but I would call him and challenge him to come here. Ozzie Newsome. I know. . . Highly unlikely you'll pry him from Baltimore.
BUT. . . Technically he's NOT the General Manager anymore in Baltimore. He stepped down and Eric DeCosta took over last year in 2018. He was kind of in a consultant or advisor type role.
I know he's up there in age. But I would beg him to come down here if I were Khan. I would tell him he's in charge from top down and just give him three years. That's it. Just ask him for three years so he can use these draft picks to potentially fix this team.
Let him pick his coaching staff. Let him try and get this team into a good position to succeed. And then maybe he can pass it down to another young and promising scout that he likes. But that's all I can think of.

I agree to a point. I think overall his drafting has been pretty solid. I think fans have unrealistic expectations of what constitutes a good draft. Look at the Niners, Packers, Seahawks, etc... other good teams. A lot of them dont have drafts that are noticeably better, or better at all, than ours over the last 5 or 6 years. Most teams are lucky if they get two really productive players and a couple serviceable role players in a draft. But not his defense, he has had the luxury of a lot of top 10 picks so his drafting should be better than average.
At the end of the day, fair or not, as a GM you often get graded on the QB and nothing else. And often times you dont get more than one chance. Caldwell missed on his.
If I'm Khan I think I'm moving on from everyone.
I'd LOVE to snag Borgonzi and Bieniemy from the Chiefs but I don't know if it would honestly happen - at least here in Jax.
I hope our draft capital is alluring to them so they could work their magic here.

That's what I am banking on. That's as good as a selling point as it gets.
1. You'll have four first round picks at your disposal over the next two years.
2. You have some promising talent in players like Allen, Chark & Minshew.
3. Shahid Khan has shown an incredible amount of patience as an owner.
4. You'll be coaching in a tax free state. More money in your pocket.
I would embrace the [BLEEP] out of this challenge and opportunity. Especially in Borgonzi and Bieniemy's positions. They would get a shot to test your mettle and knowledge against a former colleague in Chris Ballard with the indy clots.
