The stability thing is about 2021. Do you have any confidence the Jags will have the same coaching staff next year?  Do you even want that?

I'm not trying to advocate Yannick's side of this thing as righteous. I'm merely trying to identify what I imagine to be his reasoning. I've hoped all along the two sides would iron out a deal and Yan is one of my favorite players. I'm dismayed at his imminent departure. But players have historically opted for larger markets when afforded the opportunity for good reason, and I'm sure those reasons factor into Yan's decision making process as well.

I saw a discussion by Brunell and Pepper on the news yesterday and they did not buy that argument.  And I kind of tend to agree.  He might get some local endorsements, but unless you are JJ Watt or Michael Strahan, how many big money national endorsements are there going to be?  Generally a DE is not going to be the face of the franchise for any major endorsement deals unless he is a perennial All-Pro.  And I just don't see that happening.  If he thinks this, I think it is just another example of him overvaluing himself.

It doesn't have to be some high profile national TV ad for him to profit.

It could be the difference in free shoes from company X while in Jax to free shoes plus a $300K check for wearing that brand exclusively playing in a larger market with a greater % of TV broadcast.  The more exposure, the more ammo his agent has to wheel and deal with, and I'd wager his agent is in his ear about this stuff. Every small opportunity adds up and these guys and their agents covet the added exposure whether they are able to parlay it or not.

When it comes down to it, I firmly believe the primary motivation in all of this is simply Ngakoue wanting out of what he views as a dysfunctional organization. (not endorsement opportunity)
I wish we were privy to all the details that have resulted in him feeling that way. I have a feeling these threads would be a lot more open and shut in nature.

He wouldn't plainly state that because he doesn't have to. There are so many other things he could blame or just let everyone assume as the reason he is leaving. This entire organization is a dumpster fire from top to bottom and needs a major culture change. You gotta fire everyone and start fresh. It is the only way.

Looks like that's what they're doing, starting at the DE position.

It's not about the city. Not directly anyway.
It's not about the fans. (except the fact there will likely be more of them at his next destination)
Playing two games overseas for the foreseeable future is an element for sure.  But not THE element.

PRIMARILY, it's about wanting out of a dysfunctional organization that is on the cusp of another staffing re-boot in 2021 wherein there's no telling who he'll play under and in what scheme.

Allen Robinson cited playing under 3 coordinators in his time here as a major factor in his decision to move elsewhere, and the F.O. fluctuation along with the very real possibility of a lame duck staff in 2020 must be affecting Yannick similarly. Why not try to land in a more stable environment with potentially a greater fanbase and poularity to parlay into endorsement money?

Has anybody other than Warsh been his coordinator?

I still think it's that he expected us to open with 5/110 or something thereabouts, and when the team said they would franchise and negotiate after, he quit. That would explain the tweets about ppl trying to explain the business side of the negotiation, but at this point I don't even care if they try.

Do elaborate on how getting rid of young pro bowl talent at one of the most important positions in football is a blessing.

In two years we will have eleventy billion dollars in cap rooms!!!11!!!!

I would love to hear the warts-and-all true account of exactly what has gone down these last 3 years to get us to this spot.

It's going to be Jalen and one camera. The rattle off names of the management and front office, and Jalen repeats after each one, "He trash".

Oh, a few commercial breaks in between, of course.

We're the Jaguars. We only get 15 for 15.

The other 15 are on BBC2
A good article on the value of Yan at CBS Sports is a very good read...

Yan and the Giants have “mutual interest”

https://giantswire.usatoday.com/2020/03/...-interest/

Quote: Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media reports that there was a mutual interest between Ngakoue and the Giants, although no one-on-one conversation had taken place based on the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Had Ngakoue reached free agency, there would have been mutual interest between the Giants and the team and 24-year-old pass-rusher, according to multiple individuals familiar with the GIants’ plans and Ngakoue’s thinking.
Ultimately, the Jaguars may view this as an opportunity to get something in exchange for Ngakoue, who is unlikely to play on the franchise tag.

Could the Giants come calling? It’s certainly possible, says Lombardo.

It is unlikely that Ngakoue will play for the Jaguars under the franchise tag, which would force Jacksonville to trade him. The Giants certainly have the cap space, upwards of $73.9 million to spend, as well as a dire need for an elite pass rusher. What is not known is if the Giants and Jaguars will be able to come to terms on a trade.

The Giants could benefit from the Jaguars’ limited leverage in this situation after Ngakoue has publicly said his goodbyes to the Jaguars. In a similar situation last August, the Houston Texans traded edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Jacob Martin, edge rusher Barkevious Mingo, and a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

I guess the big market allure is too much to pass up for lil ol Cowford.

Play here or sit. That's it. He cannot afford to pull a Sweet Jalen and fake injury. He may hold out training camp or something but he will not lose the over million dollar game day checks that the tag will bring him. His very public screw you to the city and our team stated he does not wish a long term deal. It didn't state that he would not play on the tag.

Lol yeah this is definitely the way we should handle it if we want to change the perception of our franchise.

He is ideal for the Giants. The issue is that Gettleman is pretty stingy in trades. There are already rumors he wants to trade down in 1st or 2nd to re-acquire the pick they sent to get Leonard Williams.

I just don't see them given the Jags 2 picks or anything better than a 2nd.

This is where I think Caldwell can show that he's learned something. I would not budge with the Giants at the asking table for Ngakoue. Do I expect them to fork over their 4th overall selection? Of course not.

But to even get me to sit down at the table to talk about a trade you would have to instantly have the 36th overall pick involved. I would also want their 3rd round compensation pick for them losing Landon Collins in free agency last year.

I would also entertain the idea of swapping 1st's for Ngakoue.

So. Here's the deal. I'll give you Ngakoue and the 9th overall pick for your 4th overall pick and 36th overall pick or 3rd RD comp pick.

OR.

I'll take your 36th pick, your 3rd RD comp pick and a future pick in next year's draft. Minimum pick in next year's draft would need to be a 2nd RD pick.
So what if he won't play for us. Is this team really going to have any success with a pick that comes from trading him? I vote no confidence in the chancellor and move for a new election.

I get the logic of just tagging him and making him play next season but we will just be here again next year and do we really want to pay $20m to a guy that clearly wants out. We have enough guys not earning their pay.

Plus look at the Ramsey situation. Make yourself enough of a problem and youll get your way.

Caldwell has 3 big tests this offseason

* Yans contract
* Those 2 first round picks
* Improving the roster balancing cuts and FA
Can someone help me understand how early you have to reward a player on their rookie contract without them getting insulted and taking their ball home?

What a class act! A true pro! CC should learn a thing or 2 from Ngakoue, someone like Fitzgerald too...

Hahaha

And to boot not only does my NFL team suck but they destroyed my Star Wars. Thanks for the image.

And Man this franchise is worse than anything we can possible imagine. The way former players are taking shots at the franchise this is so bad. I hate social media but jeez these players.
We’ve lost way too many good players. What is the common denominator?

ARob
Fowler
Ramsey
Bouye
Ngakoue
I'd take the following deal from the Giants

4th overall and 36th overall

For

Yan and the 20th overall

The last scenario seems very likely to me
My vote is to franchise tag his @$$ and then trade him to whomever best suites OUR situation. If he truly doesn't want to be be here, then let him go BUT get rewarded for doing so just like we did for Ramsey's Pansey @$$.

IJS.
