I'm not a big fan of hate crime laws because they're applied so subjectively. This only proves it because WE ALL KNOW that if the roles were reversed, government lawyers and politicians would bend every law in the books to have it included as exacerbating charges for extra time, and even the families of the assaulters would be in hiding.

He talked to them about something they'd like, ice cream. He did it loud enough for everyone to hear and where everyone could see.
