I will always believe the #1 cause for that super bowl outside of Foles playing amazing and the defense playing exactly as well as they needed them was that Howie at the time was addicted to giving vets a second chance, in 2017 every single vet he picked up worked out amazingly. Brandon Brooks had his best season, Alshon Jeffery was great, Ajayi and Blount was a great duo, Chris Long, Torrey Smith, Patrick Robinson, Nigel Bradham, Nick Foles, Stefen Wisniewski, Timmy Jernigan That’s literally 10 starters that Howie picked up either from other teams or FA that played in the SB. And all were good players. So boom it worked, Howie went back to well in following years. It did not work at all.

Baalke, Rauscher and Taylor will all be gone before Pederson is gone.
I still have faith with 15 games left. It's also too damn early to be contemplating on the tree of woe. Way too early.
Again. This is what his teams do. Streaky. Cold start, hot finish. Hot start, cold finish. A lot of mental errors that eventually gets hammered out until they find a rhythm on offense.
He's like an amateur hot shot pool hustler. He hasn't found his groove yet because he's trying hard to push his ego and vision into what he wants this offense to look like until his analysis has enough to chew on for the reality to set in.
We'll probably see more offensive consistency and scoring against the Bills in a close loss on MNF next week, and then, it'll come together finally with a big road win upset in Houston to close out September 1 - 3.
They'll get over .500 in October. Probably carry a win streak into November and then have a chance to make the play off's again just like 2022 or barely miss it again in 2023 in December.
The most encouraging component to the offense so far in two weeks? ZERO turnovers from Lawrence. SOME wrinkles of big play ability downfield with the play action game.
Those two components ALONE, especially against the easier opponents on this year's schedule, it will give us a big chance to make the play off's. They already have a puncher's chance now against the better teams with this defensive coordinator.

The problem I have at this point is the optics in his press conferences. At this point he seems the same "whatever" approach that we saw going all the way back to the Bradley days. We don't know what's going on behind closed doors, but from face value of what he's showing, it's not great.

On paper that was not a Superbowl winning team, but every player put up career seasons at the same time. Its no wonder even peak GOAT couldn't beat it.
Veteran players played a HUGE role. That 2017 DLine was goated.

Are you forgetting that Wentz played like the best QB in the league for 14 weeks?

Let's also not forget the thing that got Pederson fired from Philly because of his inability to take back over the offense from Press. Philly fans have been warning Jaguars fans since at least last year... I just want the old 2022 Doug Pederson back. I'm not sure if it's going to happen. But I'm hoping for the best.

Wasn't it actually that Doug didn't want to hire an OC that the owner wanted him to hire?
Doug wanted it to be him and Press - the owner wanted a new OC calling plays.

OK. Thanks for clarifying... The point remains, Doug has been loyal to Press Taylor, Philly told him to bring another OC, because the offense under Doug and Press was terrible. Doug refused to bring in another OC. And bam, he was fired.
So the tune is different here in Duval, but the song remains the same. The offense is going backwards, and Doug is unwilling to fix the issue by bringing in a better OC and is instead loyal to Press in spite how badly things have gone to hell.

It's Doug's offense.
Press just calls the plays.
If you are trying to change the offense you need to fire Doug.

Oh, then you simply have no clue what you are talking about.
Do you think Doug Pederson is going to give up on running his own offense and bring in an outsider to install a new one?
Or do you simply think a different coordinator, looking at Doug's play sheet, is going select different options from the page situationally so much better that it will transform the Jaguars struggling and mistake-filled offensive performance?
09-17-2024, 02:48 PM
And as we also covered the last time you went off on this tangent, your description of what happened in Philly is not accurate. Taylor was never the OC there, Pederson refused to give up the play calling and that's what got Roseman's goat, that he couldn't put his man in as the play caller.

He can't promote from within? That's what the Bills did... Maybe Press just isn't ready for OC responsibilities. Isn't it possible that some else on that coaching staff is better? Or maybe another one of Doug's co-workers from the past?
This isn't an all or nothing kinda thing. At least, it doesn't have to be.

A different OC running the same offense just isn't going to have the effect you seem to think it will.
It's Doug's offense. Every play that is called by someone other than Doug goes through his headset and he can change it whenever he wants to.
If you have the opinion that plays and playcalling are the biggest enemy of our team right now and you want to fix it by replacing Taylor with a coach/coordinator in our system or in Doug's orbit -- that would be like having multiple fractures in your forearm and placing a splint on your pinky finger to fix it.
