I won't be disappointed if they win, it will be a very pleasant surprise. The same as winning the Lottery tonight (and just as likely).

Good. I hope I'm immensely disappointed. I want to be mocked and pointed at with sneers of derision about my pessimism. I really do. But I don't think it'll happen.

I'm not talking necessarily about winning or losing, although I think the team is going to be better than the experts on this board who want Gus' head believe.  Even if the team IS 0-4 to start the season, Gus won't be getting fired.  If he gets fired, it'll be at the end of the season.

Quote:Thanks for depressing me today.
Just keeping it real man, I'm trying to look at it as objectively as possible. But until the team shows they can stop a quarterback and field a consistent offense I can't in good faith say they will beat any of Aaron Rodgers, Philip Rivers, Joe Flacco, and Andrew Luck in the first 4 weeks. I hope I'm wrong but...

I think if he goes 0-4, he's on the hot seat, with the bye coming...an 0-5 start will get him fired the next day.

This roster is worthy of making it to the playoffs in 2016.

Let's not oversell things.  The roster is good enough to crack .500, but it's a longshot to make the playoffs this year.  A lot of things would have to happen in the division to assure that.

As long as the team shows tangible improvement, and doesn't get blown out in the losses, and is trending in the right direction as the season progresses, Gus will have a job to the end of the season.  It would take something seriously catastrophic to change that, and I just don't anticipate that happening.

I remember hearing the same exact thing last year. I guess you agree with Gus. Winning isn't important, we just hope we compete and get better.
I thought I remembered reading this very thread last year.

The Jaguars head coaching job really must be the best in the world. Where else can you continually fail to win and make millions while having those you fail to produce for continue to apologize for your results.
Poor talent is no excuse for any coach.  Rather, it speaks for itself.

A lot of things happen? Like be in a division with Hoyer, a rookie QB, Whitehurst and Hasselbeck?

Yea those things already happened and we won 5.

I guess we need to get lucky to win games in this league. God forbid the coach has something to do with helping this team win.

He (Gus) certainty is a likeable guy among his players, fellow coaches, media and the fan base despite his losing record.

A great coach will find the right personnel (coaches & players) under him to get the job done.

I've heard Vic Ketchman say its players not plays, but I disagree with that statement a lot.  On one hand sure you need the talent such as franchise QB is one that is incredibly hard to find & some things are impossible to coach up (arm strength for one you either have it or you don't, sure you can work out & practice but some of it is god's gift).

However, if you have guys that are 6'4", 230lbs can run  the 40 yard dash in 4.5 and are smart good character guys.  You can teach them despite how they performed in college.  They may not be ready in year 1, but if they have the physical & mental ability making them into a starter is the coaches job (provided they can compete physically - combine results for example if you have a WR that runs a 4.3 in the 40 with a 40" vertical jump you get him non-stop hands coaching if he seems to drop the ball until he gets it.

I think Gus is good at getting coaches whom can teach up the players, but I think he's biggest flaw is loyalty to his friends which kept him with his DC for so long despite the horrible results & his game planning especially after the half.

That being said I would rate Gus Bradley motivation as good 82 range, scouting elite 97 (telvin, Bortles-was gus pick according to Dave, etc), player progression great 90, challenges bad 55, time mgmt below average 69, game planning horrible 30, discipline (penalties, off field) above average 79, overall 71 as a head coach... hopefully I'm wrong this year

before last season CBS had ranked him 27th they might go lower now after only 5 wins (4 if you dont count Ravens win) in his 3rd year.

Forget about 2 and 2 before bye or whatever. Gus needs to start winning period!

As long as he competes and gets better it will be ok. We shouldn't oversell things and worry about winning or making the playoffs. It is only year 4, the process needs more time. Trust the process, we need to wait 10 years before even considering the playoffs but just enjoy the ride. You bibbers only care about winning when in reality football is all about giving it your all and getting better everyday!

QFT. You usually are over the top silly, but the level of approval Gus gets here is asinine, as if he should get a 5th year with a 18-46 record over 4 years. He has shot himself in the foot and cost himself timeouts/challenges/wins with poor gameday management. You can have the 07 Pats and still cost your team games/timeouts/put them in bad situations. Talent is not the only issue, and if how the games are coached is any indicator of how practice goes, its just as bad there too. If Gus is 0-4 and is not fired I would be shocked.
Quote:So you're a proponent of The Moped Principle then, good man!

If you can't lift her don't shift her as we say in Ireland!

Do you really think the jags are a long shot to make the playoffs?
Everyone one will either love or hate Gus Bradley after this season. Only time will tell
