Quote:Let's not oversell things. The roster is good enough to crack .500, but it's a longshot to make the playoffs this year. A lot of things would have to happen in the division to assure that.
As long as the team shows tangible improvement, and doesn't get blown out in the losses, and is trending in the right direction as the season progresses, Gus will have a job to the end of the season. It would take something seriously catastrophic to change that, and I just don't anticipate that happening.
I highly doubt the Raiders are saying the same thing. We have been in a similar situation as the Raiders for the past 4 years and I bet they're thinking playoffs. Which is what we should be thinking.

Except the Raiders didn't quite have as bad of a roster when their regime took over.
They've added talent in a similar way on a similar timeline but their starting strength was better, so moving at the same pace, they are on the verge on playoffs, while we're likely headed toward the kind of season they had last year. (7-9/9-7)

Not as bad? Who was on that roster 4 years ago that's still a key piece? They were pretty much in the same place as us.

Face it, Lazy JDR > Achieving His Ceiling Bradley.

You're kinda right... I just went back and looked at 2013, they were equally bad, though I don't think they skewed as young as we did to reset the roster.
Their '13 draft looks just as bad as ours.
The goal should be playoffs, every year, for every team.
Especially when you're not in a clear "start over rebuild" like the Browns this year (and every other year it seems)
I doubt any team says "we're just looking to get over .500"

It's not the players talking about .500... It's some people on this board claiming we would be lucky to be .500 this year. The expectations for fans this year should be to make the playoffs. Our division is extremely weak, we might have the best QB in the division, our defense should be much improved and our core young guys are a year older. All of that should lead to a winning season and a playoff spot.

Yeah if this happens, and he comes out of the gate at 0-4, he is probably gone.
Robinson went over 1k and scored 10+ TDs last year. Hurns went for the same.
Bortles exploded in production that this franchise has never witnessed.
Offensively he has no excuse.

AR15 had 14 TDs last season.
Also, Gus is a defensive minded HC. He shouldn't have any excuses there either.
Come on Gus, we need you to have a breakout year in 2016.
Even if Bradley cant win this year. Jacksonville will be a very attractive team for potential coaches

Yeah, which is why unless Gus really comes on and has a 10 win playoffs type of season he really needs to be canned. The Jaguars aren't a team that needs to put up with bottom of the barrel coaching anymore. Every coach would want to come take over with a roster like the Jaguars will have going into 2017. Having a franchise QB already in place is the big requisite to getting coaches to want to come.
Quote:AR15 had 14 TDs last season.
I typed 10+
Meaning Robinson scored more than 10 TDs.
Quote:I remember hearing the same exact thing last year. I guess you agree with Gus. Winning isn't important, we just hope we compete and get better.
Winning is important. And with the continued improvement, the wins are going to come. To say this team is a playoff contender right now is simply putting the car before the horse. A lot of things will have to happen for that to be the case.
Quote:Do you really think the jags are a long shot to make the playoffs?
I think it's too early to know for certain what this team is going to do in 2016. I'm not saying they're a long shot. I'm saying that there's a lot of work left to be done before we can make any such determination. The hope is that they will be competing for a playoff spot this year. if that's the case, how the team starts the season will be completely irrelevant. It's how it finishes the season that matters. So, if they start 0-4, that is not a certain measuring stick to decide Gus' fate.
As I ALSO said, I don't expect this team to be winless after 4 games. I think they're going to be better than you and your ilk are desperately hoping for, much to your chagrin no doubt.

In this division, .500 or better might actually win it. I think the South is going to be far more competitive as the talent is starting to balance out. You've got the colts and tin horns who have significant flaws, but Indy has Luck, and Houston has the defense. The Jags are the team on the rise in the division, and if they can put a few more pieces in place in the draft and with the later free agency push, they're going to be in the mix. Saying that they'll crack .500 isn't an indictment. It's a good thing, especially in this division.
What a crock of [BLEEP], FBT. "Alot has to happen to reach .500."
Wow, dude. We have a franchise QB and a ton of weapons on offense. Added a bunch of talent on defense, have a top 5 pick, not to mention getting our #3 pick from last year back in the fold. This team is loaded with talent. I understand trying to manage expectations, but my goodness if this isn't the year this team makes the leap then when?
It's laughable how you almost verbatim regurgitate the talking points of our loser coach.
"As long as we don't get blown out.." (compete)
"As long as the team shows improvement..." (get better)
This is loser talk! At what point is the head coach held accountable for not leading a talented roster to WINS? 3 years from now if Gus is still coach and is still losing 10 games a year does he still get a pass? As long as the team competes and gets better right?
What a joke.

Isnt it only fair to put the car before the horse after four years? How long and how much improvement this team has to make before u admit that it is the coach thats holding this team back?
We have the talent.. That excuse is over.. He have more coaches and advisors and coordinators, that excuse is over.. This team should win now and have too. Or its on the coach and the Gm!
Do i like Gus? Yes as a person.. But as a coach he needs to improve and improve fast...Or he has to go.. And forget 0-4 if he goes 0-6 hes GONE!
So while u think we are a long shot, I dont think soo, maybe with Gus coaching.. But this team talent wise
Is ready.. And so are the fans!

Well Gus can go 0-16 as long as the losses aren't blowouts. We just need to trust the process. Compete and get better. 10 years from now we still won't have a winning record but we will know the process is working when the Jay-gwires demonstrate their spirit every Sunday.

you mean cart before the horse?
Les Moss said it perfectly this morning in the radio, "there's nothing positive about losing."
