Just wondering going back to the drafting of Fowler, a lot of scouts compared him to Justin Houston or Khalil Mack. But he doesn't have the same explosive athleticism of those two as shown by his 32 1/2 vert and 9'04'' broad jump. Why do you think they overlooked this and still considered him a top tier edge rushing prospect. Also his agility score with the 3 cone drill wasn't great either at 7.40.
The tape also showed he didn't have explosive athleticism, and he was very inconsistent in his ability to convert speed to power and and bending around the edge.
Fowler was and is somewhat of an anomaly. His 40 and 10 yard split are explosives. His jumps werent but on tape hes explosive and violent when he hits. The three cone is the biggest concern. Transitioning to the next level you need wiggle in addition to straight line explosion. There was a lot of debate about wether or not his testing translated as an elite rusher (look up force players.) long story short he was a risk.
Probably his two greatest assets are his relentlessness and versatility. He can line up virtually anywhere, upright, hands on the ground, defensive end line backer - you can disguise where he is coming from ala JJ Watt.
He has work to do, but the intangibles to become an elite player.
Full disclosure, watt is versatile because his size and athletacism translate to every position. He tested off the charts.
Because combine drills don't mean as much as you think in football.
Someone didn't watch him play in college...
Lol at all the people that try to evaluate players by only watching combine drills :woot: :teehee:
Wow. If Fowler is anything, it's explosive. He was one of the most vicious players I can remember watching in college.
His ability to recover from an ACL injury is what is in question.

I've seen plenty of Fowler. :/

Depends on the drill. 40s are useless for linemen and linebackers for the most part, while drills that test kick-slides, being able to flip your hips, and bending/exploding around the edge can tell you a lot about how good someone could be. The thing is, most of the more useful drills rarely get TV time by NFL Network while that slobber all over the 40.

If you did you wouldn't be questioning his ability. He's a Gator though, so he must suck... right? That's how it goes around here.

I'm a Gator fan and I question his ability as well.

I'm a soon to be UF student. >.>
Just because you're a Florida fan doesn't mean you can't question his ability.

Lol, you obviously didnt see many Fla games

this, he didnt have the sack number but he was in the back field chasing the QB it seemed like on almost every pley

I just meant that he's overrating the importance of combine drills.

I watched every Florida game last year. I saw Fowler, and he's exactly what I said. Yes he was in the backfield a lot, but he didn't get there beating the OT consistently with bullrushes or turning the corner. He had a couple games where he did it, like Georgia, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and East Carolina, but against Bama, LSU, FSU, he wasn't able to do it.

I agree, he looks to me like a high motor Andre Branch. That's what comes of "need" drafting, you often end up failing to fill your need while also passing up players that could have turned out to be great players for years.
