Quote:Yep ... just like the Steelers who cut Lagarrette Blount (instead of suspending him) only to watch him sign with the Pats and win a super bowl

what is it with that guy?  he gets cut every year and then signs with somebody and plays well.  he went from Pats to Steelers to Pats.

So if he was such a bad egg or whatever, why would Pats resign him?

Quote:at this point it seems like you would be angry if he came back, which is weird

What's weird is how soon you forget how you flamed me and called me an idiot for saying he was done a year ago....and yet here we are.

forgetting something I said a year ago isn't "soon", and I would still agree with me from a year ago.  nobody knows if he's done or not.  It seems like this false report had you excited for a moment.... that should not be your reaction.

I told you guys you were naive and you laughed. Now- crickets.

by "crickets" you mean, multiple posts expressing the good news that Blackmon maybe wasn't denied reinstatement?

pat that back of yours.  you need it.

The report has nothing to do with my opinion. My eyes, the calendar and common sense have everything to do with it.

And your blind, naive hope seems more ridiculous by the day.
I'm sure this has been addressed a million times, but I don't know how keeping a guy who has substance issues away from your facilities and the positive influences of his teammates facilitates rehabilitation.  You are essentially isolating someone who needs 1) constructive things to do, and 2) people who care about him to look out for him. Looking at his 2012 highlight video, he was something we haven't had in a while.  I don't expect it, but I would love to see him get back on track.  If he is 85% of what he was then, it's still darn good.

Glad it may be just rumors that he has been denied reinstatement.

Its so cute watching you cling to "the good news that Blackmon maybe wasn't denied reinstatement" as some overwhelmingly positive sign, while ignoring the the pictures of him in casinos, looking 50 lbs overweight, ignoring phone calls from his teammates, etc.

"YEAH SO MAYBE THERE IS NO POSITIVE NEWS, BUT THAT NEGATIVE NEWS THAT CAME OUT MAY NOT BE TRUE, SOOOOOOOO....."
Quote:He played the clip of Long saying Blackmon applied and was denied twice and tore into him about changing his story and not coming on the air to clear up the story. Apparently Long called into XL Prime Time but Dempsey's producer picked up and Long refused to talk to Dempsey.

Now Dempsey is going to put the segment on Twitter to clear his name from the Blackmon applied talk.

So, Long is ducking his calls?  Dempsey's tweet over the weekend is the main reason this thread exists to begin with.  I even had an exchange with him on Twitter asking if it was POSSIBLE that the report was incorrect, and that the reality is that Blackmon hasn't applied for reinstatement yet because he's not eligible to do so because of the incident in July of last year.  He did say that this was a distinct possibility, but didn't go so far as to question Long's initial report that nobody has substantiated.

Blackmon denied reinstatement?

John: This is a story that has been whispered on Twitter and recirculated on the Internet. There’s often a reason when stories aren’t reported as fact.

That's the thing I've found curious about Mark Long's report.  He's the only guy who has said that Blackmon was denied.  Anyone else who reported it was citing his tweet.  It was never substantiated by any other outlet, including O'Halloran, who you'd think would be all over this because of his "love" for Blackmon.  I figured he'd be dancing all over this thing and he never really did.

Isn't that response similar to those who were practically snapping their spines trying to pat themselves on the back for saying he was done following the Mark Long tweet that he'd been denied reinstatement?

It's not like Long was offering up any detail, and he sure didn't have anyone else backing up his claim.  Yet, some folks on this board pounced on it as if there was no doubt it was true.  Now that it turns out there's a lot of room for doubt, those same folks are trying to dismiss anyone who is at least expressing some relief that the denial talk may not be accurate.

This is getting interesting.
If he comes back, so be it. If not, we've filled the roster with young talent that could blossom into great players down the road. What I don't get is all the hush-hush on the issue. If he doesn't want to play, his agent needs to come out and say it? If he was denied reinstatement, why can't the Jags or the NFL state it? If his time to apply hasn't hit yet, why can't someone in the league confirm it? It's just stupid to me.

GO JAGS!!

What does Miami and Jacksonville have in common?

an offensive first round pick that chose pot over football.

That's pretty much the same approach the front office is taking.  Nothing has changed from their perspective.  They've moved forward expecting nothing from Blackmon, viewing him as a luxury if he's able to get back on the field and earn his spot.

His agent has indicated previously that Blackmon intends to apply for reinstatement.  Blackmon has as well when asked.  If he was denied reinstatement by the league, regardless of the reason, that would have been reported by multiple outlets, and most likely confirmed by the team.  The application for reinstatement, and the subsequent ruling would not be impacted by HIPAA laws if they simply reported he was denied.  No reason needs to be given for the rejection beyond the fact that he was denied.  That hasn't been reported to be the case anywhere but on Mark Long's twitter feed, and even he's trying to navigate away from his own report apparently.

So, Mark Long was basically speculating that something must have happened because Blackmon hasn't been reinstated, and he looked a little puffy in some pictures?  No wonder Dempsey is running from this.

Thanks for the link, so after listening to that I am more confused now than ever.... did he or didnt he fail the test?
Wow!  In listening to the entire clip, Dempsey just destroyed Long for backing away from the story and not standing behind his own report.
