Quote:Can we also please dispel this myth that he isn't able to apply yet?

How is that a myth?  If league rules indicate he can't apply for reinstatement until 60 days prior to the 1 year anniversary of his suspension, it's hardly a myth to think that he might not be eligible to do so yet.  To think otherwise ignores the traffic stop last July and the subsequent discovery that he was in possession of a banned substance.  Do you honestly think that incident has just gone unpunished?  I find that highly unlikely.

Quote:He's technically has been able to apply for a while now. But the NFL has strict rules regarding reinstatement, one being you have to had avoided any other incidents for 12 months. Last summer's pot arrest kinda ruined that for Blackmon.

Technically, we don't know when he will be eligible to apply.  We can make some assumptions. Even with the incident last summer, he'd more than likely be eligible to apply some time next month, meaning he'd be available for some off season conditioning, OTAs, and training camp..
There is a big bias with Blackmon and the local media, I'm not sure if he did something against them, or if the local media simply "speculated" he was done. For all accounts, they could be right. But Mark Long, Alfie and Ryan O Halloran were wrong to hoodwink everyone into thinking he applied and was denied. Bad journalism and it shows a bias as to which way they lean when it comes to Justin Blackmon.

Justin Blackmon may never play another down in the NFL again, but that should not get in the way of facts, and the fact is, we have heard nothing from Justin Blackmon, nor the NFL, and its a open case until its officially closed. I was always a big blackmon fan and i truly was disappointed when all his troubles came about, i think he had the chance to become a top player at his position. Just more 1st round disappointments with the Jags, nothing new.

I would love Blackmon to come back, i stayed away from this story because i knew nothing was confirmed. Maybe next time, the hipsters and the Times Union will wait till it actually is confirmed that he will or will be coming back the the Jaguars.

I read alfie's article this morning, it was a sad attempt of attempting to wash his hands clean of the Blackmon story. For months, Alfie and Ryan O Halloran were parading around saying how Blackmon is done, he sucks, he's never coming back, showing a clear bias against a player, which the  media should  really not do. I mean......if Blackmon never comes back, its pretty self explanatory. He was been arrested and failed drug/alcohol tests numerous times, but in no shape or form should the local media be reporting things that are not true.

What if he actually does try to come back and make a return to the NFL? What if he actually wants to give it a go one more time? What if finally he has turned a corner? Media has been saying the opposite and misleading their readers. Thats bad journalism and disappointing to say the least.

Wish our media in Jax was a bit more Jag friendly

Yep, I don't get it. They're all butthurt for some reason.

Blackmon has probably never been a popular player with the media because he's not a quote machine.  He's supposedly pretty shy when it comes to dealing with the press, and with some of the egos these big fish in a little pond in the local media have, if you're not giving them adequate time doing interviews, you're bound to get less than positive press.  I don't think it's that he's done anything in particular as much as he's just not a media friendly player along the same line as a guy like Marshawn Lynch.

I guess I always figured he'd be back at some point.  It's just so rare for a top 5 pick to play so sparingly and just disappear without a trace after failing multiple drug tests.  The law of averages would seem to indicate he'd be back with the team at some point.  However, I'm starting to believe he's gone for good and that he doesn't have much interest in returning to the NFL.  A sad story to be sure and a future ESPN 30 for 30 show, probably to be titled "The Best That Never Was, Part II."

ehhh Lynch does that for media, he loves the media, thats the difference. People eat up the hoopla like deflate gate and "I'm just here so i won't get fined". The media loves, that, he loves that, the NFL loves that. Thats press. Blackmon either burned too many bridges while in jackonville, or the local media simply turned on him because of the off field stuff and they jumped the gun too early on saying he won't play again for the Jaguars.

Im not defending Blackmon, and I'm not too sure at this point if he plays again. I just don't like being lied to, and the position those local media figures are in, they are in no position to state their opinions as fact, then try and backtrack when they know they are wrong. Justin Blackmon is still on a year long suspension, we should know in a month or so if he will ever come back in the league.

I think the issue with Mark Long is that he stated an opinion and that opinion got reported as fact, not completely by him.  Dempsey gave that story legs.  So did Alfie and other outlets that picked up a tweet about Long's comments during a radio show interview.  In the end, it was just Long's opinion.  He tried to spin it in a way that implied he was getting that info from insiders, but clearly that wasn't the case.  As soon as his feet were put to the fire, he couldn't get away from the story fast enough.

To their credit, most of the media in Jacksonville, including the official television station and MOST of the official radio guys didn't touch this story.  Same with the team website.  Oehser couldn't verify anything from the story.

So, it came down to 1 guy just speculating, and a couple of others looking to get that breaking story they could run with to generate clicks and ratings.

The date begins when the suspension began.

I mean, Dempsey asked him if he is putting his name on it and if it was his opinion or if he had information. He a least followed up before tweeting it. This is really on Long.
I don't understand how the jock sniffing wannabe conveyor belt of thought over at BCC is even mentioned as a journalism outlet.

You're assuming they haven't issued any sort of punishment for the July incident.  Based on the fact that it doesn't appear he has applied for reinstatement, I'd be inclined to think the league did issue an update to the suspension following that arrest, and it reset the clock.

The league isn't going to let that last incident slide.

If this guy cam play like he did in 2012.. this offense is gonna be good.. blackmon Robinson lee hurns greene at WR.. thomas and lewis at tightend blackmon is that missing piece/homerun threat..
no one forgot about him,  we know he was denied reinstatement

where you been ?
oh good greif, here we go again.

Thats the point. Forget him and move on.

This again?

A thread so good, one wasn't enough, apparently.

Turns out that never actually happened, but you're right with the first part.
Nobody forgot about Blackmon, We just don't expect much from him. More than likely he will get into trouble again. There I said it and most everybody is thinking it too. No offense.
