Started binging The Boys on Prime. Almost done with season three. I really like it. It's pretty funny and dark comedy wise. Gives me a bit of The Watchmen vibes sometimes but the dynamic between Butcher, M.M, Hughie, Frenchie and Kimiko are great. Homelander is funny as hell. The Deep is funny with his moments. Obviously a shot at Aquaman.

I do enjoy the efforts made to explore the psychology of each character, their past, their ambitions, their stances, etc. I also appreciate the shots they take at modern culture movements and ideology. It's not too campy, it's not too serious and it gets it's message through while playing up some of the classic hero takes, vigilante takes and classic bad guy takes.
I noticed that Max streaming just put all three seasons of True Detective out.  Probably as a lead in to season four.  I’ll go ahead and binge all three.  I’ve only watched them all once so looking forward to season one again.
I finished 1923 last week and I wish I had better things to say about it because the cast deserves better. I don't understand Tyler Sheridan's need to have so much negative drama. It's all gas and no brakes and it's exhausting to watch. There has to be a balance of bad (negative) and good drama along with some lighter moments and even some....dead space, or neutral space, where things are happening but it's more like background noise. Not so overwhelming.

1883 is good because it has that balance, though halfway through the series it went a bit more heavy on the Elsa storyline than I felt was necessary. Sheridan did say the story was really about her and I feel that was a mistake because it's supposed to be a backstory of the Duttons but it turned into a story about a Dutton that doesn't even live to see her 20s. I suppose it sets up how the family moves on from that crisis and how that affects future generations but we don't even get to see how that happens. The next time we see the Dutton family it's 1923 with a completely different set of characters and you're not entirely sure how they're connected to the 1883 Duttons outside of a very brief 'blink and you miss it' explanation of who Harrison Ford's character is, who his nephew and great nephew are, and how they're related to him.

Outside of that there is the Charlie Foxtrot of a character played by Timothy Dalton who is a very nasty piece of work and the point is driven home by multiple unnecessary and drawn out scenes of him involving two prostitutes in BDSM. Completely unrelated to his storyline other than showing how depraved he is and adding nothing to the overall story. I fast forwarded those scenes because they were quite disturbing in their violence. I'm fine with people fighting each other, but this was not fighting, this was....disturbing because the girls weren't voluntarily participating. It's more like they were being mentally raped by him while he's making them physically beat and rape each other. Disgusting filth.

Anyway, I've watched 1883 twice but I will not watch the second season of 1923. It will likely be even more depressing than S1 and I'm not into mentally flogging myself.

That's interesting.  I haven't seen 1923, but I kind of felt the same way about Yellowstone as you apparently did about 1923.  It was fun at first, but the never ending crisis, where they're about to lose their land, or go broke, or get arrested, or get killed, or numerous other things, went on and on to the point of exhaustion.  Meanwhile, there wasn't a single character I cared about.  To the point that I don't care if they finish the series or not.  I'm kind of disgusted with those characters.  There's nothing good about their lives.  You'd think someone with those resources would find a way to have some sort of fun or put some sort of meaning into their life, but all they seemed to care about was hating each other.

Yep. I watched about 15 minutes of a Yellowstone episode and turned it off. Too depressing. In 15 minutes!

The reason 80s shows like Dallas, Dynasty and Knots Landing worked was because there were good guys and bad guys and they had as much fun having a good time as they did going at each other. J.R. Ewing (Dallas) was so well played by Larry Hagman it's a thing of wonder to watch, and I was just a kid. You absolutely loved to hate J.R. and you hated to love him because he was such a scoundrel.

There's a reason the Who Shot J.R.? season finale cliffhanger was so shocking, exciting and discussed. Likeable characters (good and bad) played by stellar actors was a big part of it.

There are a lot of people who feel like you do about Yellowstone. Cancelled? Who cares? The characters and storylines make you want to drink gasoline and strike a match. Sheridan has his fingers in so many pies he probably isn't too concerned about a show that's already run for several seasons.

1923 has decent characters played by some well known actors but the constant drama is tiresome.  It also sucked that I thought it was a one season limited series like 1883 so I was very confused when I get to the last episode and nothing had come close to being tied up. I got on IMDB to find out why it ended so abruptly only to discover it will have a second season because, according to Sheridan there was too much storytelling for one season. Had they not kept repeating the BDSM scenes as well as the ones where the Native American chick keeps getting beaten by the nuns at one of those schools they forced young Natives to attend to be assimilated into white society, they could have told the story in one season.

Yeah it was all over the place. I'm still not sure how everything will tie together or if I'll even remember whatever happened. It was like they had 2 or 3 different stories and then threw some more drama on top of it.

The Native American story I guess will be the relatives of the current tribe or something but it could also be something that was just added from external pressure as several shows that are based on that time period or Native American based shows all had episodes or references to the same type of storyline.

Someone I know who watches Yellowstone said the N.A. character, Teonna Rainwater, in 1923 is the relative of a current character, Thomas Rainwater, in Yellowstone so her storyline makes sense. It's the constant torture scenes that bothered me. Yes, those schools were horrific and should have never existed, but her story can still be told without showing her being beaten and sexually assaulted over and over.

I looked up 1883 and 1923 on IMDB and every episode of both was written by Sheridan according to that info, although IIRC there are different writing credits on the series opening theme for each episode. If he did write every episode of 1923 he must have stopped taking his ADHD meds or something because it's nothing like 1883 in terms of pace and storytelling.

Season three is also good. Nothing will be as good as S1 but S3 is good in its own right.
We're about through Season 2 of The Gilded Age. It's by the same dude that created Downton Abby. You get caught up in it. There's a certain GoT vibe to it without the dragons and cut off heads and [BLEEP]. Although there are times it does happen metaphorically, lol. We like period shows, Perry Mason is pretty good in that regard.

PS: A completely different show that we just finished was Halo. I was prepared to hate it although the video game is fun. Now I can't freaking wait for season 2.

We're almost finished with Halo. I think I like it more than hubby does. Never played the game though I know the basics of what it's about. I like Pablo Schreiber in the role of John though I know nothing of the game version. He does really well with all of the dynamics and emotions the character is dealing with.
Still binge-watching "For All Mankind" on Apple TV+. What a fantastic series that is. We're almost finished with season 3.
I'm really diggin this show called Loudermilk on Netflix..

We just finished the season 4 finale. Things are diverging more and more from “real” history. Season 5 could bring things current with present day.

Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't seen the show.

When they went to retrieve the part from the North Korean probe, and a North Korean astronaut shows up holding a gun on them, my wife and I laughed.  WHAT. THE. [BLEEP]. Those writers must have a lot of fun making up that show.

It's some of the best sci-fi I've seen in a very long time.

It's a very good show.  We are still in season one, but my understanding is that it continues on into the future, to Mars and beyond.
AppleTV has the best shows out right now.

Make sure you hit Foundation, Shrinking, Lasso and Invasion. Foundation is so good.

Really enjoyed Silo as well.

It's really enjoyable. Also, while there's no connection between the two, it really feels sometimes like The Expanse could be taking place in the same fictional universe, just 300 years later.
Now we are binge-watching Fargo season 5. We've made it halfway so far. That has always been one of my favorite series on TV, and this season is no disappointment. It's a really fun show.

Season 5 was hit or miss for some reason with people. It was somewhat different from past seasons but the ending brought it back. The mother-in-law stuff and female cop personal life was unnecessary filler that served no purpose.
