Looks like Bortles had a rough practice but responded strong at the end. I love hearing that and can't overstate how important it is.
Quote:He probably winds up as the starter, but he's got to get better at snapping the football. Botched snaps like that are never a good thing.

Mike Pouncey had a lot of bad snaps when he played center for the Gators. It's probably an easy fix.

1) @MiamiHurricanes well represented w/3 rookies. Brandon Linder will start RG or C (getting look this week with Mike Brewster struggling)

Stephen Morris has legit shot to pass Ricky Stanzi as No. 3 QB (although Jags may only carry 2). And undrafted WR Allen Hurns should stick

2) Toby Gerhart (hip) says he's returning to practice tomorrow. Ideally 15-carries or so a game leading RB-by-committee

3) Rookie DE Chris Smith looked great v. @TBBuccaneers last Friday. Excelling in practice as well. Great get-off on pass rush

4) Injuries at WR makes it tough on QBs to run offense. QB Stephen Morris lined up at the position today during an RBs drill

For some players, it is worth overlooking some negatives.

For others, if you have literally no other strengths, an added negative like not snapping well can be the nail in their coffin.
As good as Bortles looks Fri he's still a rookie and going to make mistakes. i heard it had a rough practice but I'm more impressed of how he bounces back

from those tough practices/ I expect him to be much better tomorrow.

Glad to see storm moving up the chains. I definitely do not want to see him go to the practice squad. He will be gone in a second.

Allen hurns could not have a better opportunity than right now. He is definitely taking advantage. I hope he keeps it up.
Henne of course, the grizzled, steady, battle tested veteran and unquestioned starter has never had a rough moment in practice thus far in camp :whistling:

Because a guy selected in the first round vs. an undrafted guy who has slowly come along since entering the league in 2012 have so much in common.

It might have been an easy fix for Pouncey. It remains to be seen if that's the case for Brewster.

Ok, then please do NOT start Bortles that game!!!!

Admittedly they are different players, so what applies to one may not apply to the other. But I don't see how Pouncey being a much stronger blocker makes it any easier to learn to snap the ball correctly. It's not like Brewster was lacking in arm strength.

Brewster will lose the job because of his blocking, or lack thereof. I doubt that bad snaps in one preseason game will be given much weight.

For sure. Heck start Stanzi...
Bortles struggling in practice... does well in games... could he be the Anti-Gabbert?

Quote:Bortles struggling in practice... does well in games... could he be the Anti-Gabbert?
I think he is anti Gabbert in every sense but I don't remember Bortles having many bad practices as of late plus he seems to respond well to negative plays.
Like the sound of this

#Jaguars GM David Caldwell: We feel like Jonathan Cyprien can be a cornerstone of this defense for a long time. #SXMNFL

There is a throw in the video that Gabbert would of never made. Bortles sees the pressure in his face and knows he's going to get hit but delivers the football to the receiver. Gabbert would of gotten in the fetal position and look at the sideline like a deer in headlights.
