All things considering, I still think we are in a good position to get some positive impact with the 3rd pick overall.

If you assume Clowney and Bridgewater are off the board, we still get access to Barr, Carr, Bortles, Manziel (please no) or whomever else declares eligible.

Of course, there's still a chance someone falls to us at three we weren't expecting to be on the board.

I'd rather not trade up to 2, though.

I'm betting Bradley and Caldwell will try to trade up from the 2nd round back up into the bottom of the first to get a prospect.

Quote:Yep, I won't be surprised at all if this happens.

I've been conditioned to expect it now, after 2011 and 2013 have given division rivals Luck and likely Bridgewater.

And not counting 2005, the entire rest of the years back to 2000 have been pretty much equally as bad.

Exactly. The sky ain't falling its already fell. Where is the light at the end of the tunnel? Until we find a legitimate franchise QB we aren't going anywhere.
We going diez?

which would have been helpful had we lost another game or 2. As it turned out we missed the top 2 picks anyway.

As another person said in the thread or similar thread.....we can't even lose right. :pinch:
To me, 4 wins is NOT a winning culture.. That's limping into the draft..

Exactly ^^^^ Winning culture equals a winning season consistently (meaning playoff appearances).

My thing is we're still in position to get an impact player, with an outside shot at either Clowney or Bridgewater.
Quote:I see where you coming from as winning can help the culture. But what happened to that culture the last part of the season? Did we lose that culture from losing the remaining games? Doesn't being blown out by the Clots diminish the winning culture? And really, what kind of winning culture is there? We won  4 games. 2 of the games against the "worst" team in the league, and 2 others against sub .500 teams. I am not putting down what Bradley is doing and creating here. Like I said, i love where we are headed. But, like I said from the start, without talent on the roster, there's only so much you can do. And honestly, we are so down as a franchise, we get excited about a 3 game winning streak and 4 win season? Really?? Like I said, we're going in the right direction. But those wins did nothing but shadow a team with very little talent. The draft is where we'll get that talent (not guaranteed I know, but most of the time, that's where you find it). And with the higher pick, we could have a higher chance. Those wins did very little for our progress going forward.

The Colts are really a good team. They did not just clinch a playoff berth because the rest of the division sucks; they would have clinched it in any AFC division. Also, the Jaguars did not have Cecil Shorts and it was an away game. So getting blown out there does not mean we lost our winning culture.

We played very hard against the Bills and did not get blown out. We were missing MJD, Shorts, and Cyprien. So just the fact we lost did not mean we had a losing culture in that game either.

The Titans are a division rival out for revenge against losing to a previously-winless team at their house. I would say they had as much motivation to win as we did.

Tanking, on the other paw, would be simply not trying to win, and consequently getting blown out in every one of our losses.
Barr or Mack and try to trade back up for manziel

Its doubly bad when not only do we (a QB starved team) miss out on a Bridgewater level QB in yet another BAD year of football that we had to endure.....but we simultaneously let a DIVISION RIVAL get said QB, thus compounding the issue, just like in 2011 with Luck/ Colts.

I mean, you couldn't write this stuff better if it was scripted. Sad
I love how some posters in this thread have already predicted the future. I also love the notion that there are only two good players in this draft. Only two. And there's no chance something can happen between now and SIX MONTHS from now, allowing one of these two players to fall to pick three.

This time last year, Luke Joeckel was a lock to be the top overall pick, and Eric Fisher was a fringe top 10 guy. Nothing is guaranteed in freaking December.

But no. We have the third pick and we can't possibly take a quality player with that pick, even though scouts who actually get paid to evaluate game tape will tell you differently. If you're not selected with one is the top two picks in the draft, you'll bust.

We will suck forever and ever.

You said it yourself earlier today....we need(ed) a superstar, not just an impact player.

We really needed one of the top 2 picks.

The winning culture line is BS. How do you lose 12 games and say that is a winning culture. How is tasting a win from an equally lousy team establishing a winning culture. No a winning culture is winning consecutive games, consistently. The Jaguars have been losing for ages. Winning 1-2 games doesnt magically establish a culture of winning.
Mack or Clowney if Teddy goes #1 overall.

Winning culture means playing to win every week and not getting blown out even if we lose. We had a three-game winning streak, winning four out of five games. Arizona is a good team this year.

And conversely, when the Texans win 10+ games next season with Bridgewater....is that 14 game losing streak giving them any continuing losing culture? Nope.

Who said an impact player can't be a superstar and the #3 pick can't be that guy?

What position does Mack play?
There are 4 players I would class as elite this draft.

Bridgewater/clowney/Barr/Matthews

We get one of them..barring tackle we have a need for all the other 3 position we know get to get one of them..what's the problem?

Honestly if we was picking second there would be a thread saying 'this is the worst possible position there's only one good player and now we won't get him' if we was picking first it would be 'a lack of talent draft'..

This time last year, Geno Smith was a lock for the top pick. Luke Joeckel took over that spot after the 49ers traded Alex Smith to the Chiefs.

And the middle of May is less than 6 molnths away.
