I walked on my street today just to get out of the condo and saw a lady sweeping bundles of leaves. She said, "Somebody's gotta do it," and explained clearing the road will help the standing water drain out. This morning she read Irma made the turn so that Jacksonville is really bad, not Tampa as everyone predicted. I was shocked because of what I saw in this thread. and AOL maps. Crazy.

I prayed for impacted Floridians during the first power outage yesterday.
Dang. Memorial Park in Riverside is underwater. I used to go down there all the time to chill.
My power returned at about 1:30. I expect it to stay on because the hurricane winds are over. A tree toppled onto the front fence, but there is no damage. There is also a big branch on my driveway. The street is a mess.
Still no power, but no damage either except a couple of fence panels leaning over. I'll fix those later when the ground isn't so soggy.
I got back to my house this morning. Have only minor damage to the pool cage. Never lost power, even. Currently chilling with a long over due beer. Hope everyone in Jacksonville is okay, just heard on my local news about bad flooding there.
I know it's a stressful situation, but Mayor Curry came off as a bit of a whiny jerk on CNN just now.
What did he say?

CNN is full of whiny jerks. Curry is a perfect fit.
My sister and her family live only 10 minutes away (near BHG Stadium) and did not have power all day. I feel bad for them.
I live up here by the airport. Lost power about 2am and just got it back an hour or so ago. (Way to go JEA!) Much faster than when Mathew came. Lots of downed trees all around. No real damage to my property only a handful of missing roof shingles. Two of the main roads leading from my house were washed out earlier today by the rising creek. Saw two cars try to drive thru and stall out. DO NOT DRIVE THRU STANDING WATER!!!!!! It's not worth the headache and insurance hassle.
Still no power in central brevard. This sucks. Left for Mathew and stayed for this stupid storm. FPL needs to hurry it up. They were a street down from me 10 hours ago and then poof, no trucks around. My generator took a crap too. Have to work tomorrow. LAME.

Venting over.
I went about 16 hours without power. Once JEA did their assessment and got the crews out, lights started coming on quick.

Some unnecessarily snide sounding comments about people who did not take evacuation seriously. I get it, but the storm took an unexpected path. I'm sure he was stressed.

Considering the fact that they were warning people for a week because of the unpredictability of the path, Curry was right.  I think he and the governor actually did a terrific job of preparing the city/state for this storm based on the relatively low numbers regarding fatalities.  You're not going to save everyone because there are always those idiots who don't heed the warnings, but most people did this time around.

Now, as far as JEA goes, we've been without power since 11 am on Saturday.  The nor easter knocked us out and it has yet to be restored.  No sign of any utility trucks in our area yet either.  They're still "assessing the damage" according to them.  We were without power for a week during Matthew after someone "inadvertantly" closed the ticket thinking we already had our power restored. I expect similar levels of competence this time around.  We called this outage in at 11:03 am on Saturday. I checked the outage map last night after gassing up the generator and apparently we have power.  Only problem is we don't.  Called the JEA again only to find ouy they did it again. The call center guy had no idea what the deal was, and a new ticket was submitted resetting the clock.  We'll be lucky to have our power restored before next week. I've ever seen such an incompetent monopoly receive the kind of praise these idiots get.

The Future Darwin Award Winners of America Society is looking for those two.

I can't imagine what you're all going through down there. A friend sent me video of our old home in Riverside, 3 blocks from the river, him in waist deep water.

I've heard multiple saying how "the lying media purposely made this out to be worse than it was" or something along those lines and are pissed off about how seriously it was taken.

Stuff like that pisses me off. I honestly wish more people had taken better precautions than they did. This storm was historically powerful, the US got extremely lucky it weakened as fast as it did. Even with that, we even got some wind damage up here. On top of that, just bc some people didn't get much damage if at all, doesn't mean others didn't lose every.

Just a plain ignorant way of thinking.

Some people in South Florida said they chose to ignore evacuation orders because of fear they would run out of gas. I totally understand that one.
