What would you say is the last window of opportunity to bug out from Jacksonville? Saturday?
Travel time will be doubled at the least due to evacuee traffic. I'd guess Saturday morning would work, but just be prepared for parking lot conditions on highways and parallel two-lane state roads.
I'm sticking it out on the southside for this one, personally. (Unless the track starts being predicted closer to Jax in the next 36 hours. Then I'll consider evacuation.)
My lot never floods and I just have a couple of big trees to keep a sharp eye on.
Regardless of the track it takes, I believe we will be alright. It's going to have the landmass of the entire state to weaken it before it reaches us. Yes, we might get some high winds and rain, but not full on hurricane weather.

If you're not out of here by tomorrow before midday, you'll be parked on the interstate when the storm hits. South Florida is already clogging up the interstates. Just heard a traffic report that it's taking more than an hour to get from 206 to the beltway because of traffic.
I would also recommend keeping an eye out for updates from JDub's neighbor's cat.
I'd rather be hunkered down in my house than a parking lot on the interstate trying to book a reservation on your phone while driving. Talk about a nightmare.

That's my anticipation. Based on predictions and experience I'm guessing we'll get 60-70 mph winds and a lot of rain.
Those near the ocean, river or tributaries will see a storm surge as well.
South Florida landfall will weaken it. Just have to hope when the eye bounces back out over the ocean north of Canaveral it doesn't pick up steam again:/
Right now, I see a lot of yardwork and a new chainsaw blade purchase in my future.
Still tracking close to what we saw with Matthew last year.

If it makes landfall in South Florida, that does weaken it a bit for us, but they're still saying strong CAT3 when it gets nearest to us. Even if it takes a significant northerly turn sooner, it could brush South Florida and stay over the Atlantic up the coast and we'd see similar conditions. I do think we'll end up with Matthew type weather as a result. But, one bit of encouraging news is that they're saying the storm surge won't be as bad with this one. So the coastal washout we saw south of here in Crescent Beach up through St. Augustine and even here in Jax with flooding at the beaches won't be as severe as it was last year

That's if it doesn't skirt a little east and hugs the coast instead, which is a possibility. That could be a problem.

I don't take the interstate when I go that way. I take US 1. It's 4 lanes, and usually deserted.

I'm definitely waiting for those cat updates!!

One more thing I rely on for weather updates is my neighbor's cat. He knows before I do when it will start raining and quickly goes home.
Keep us posted on the cats whereabouts. We all need to know as soon as possible if it takes cover.
I'll forego NOAA or any supposedly credible weather sites and just wait for the cat alert. I'd recommend everyone bookmark this thread if they want to live.
LOL Sorry, the cat can't tell me if the rain is coming from a hurricane or regular clouds.
While waiting for a haircut today, I saw on the salon's TV this weather forecast: cloudy tomorrow and thunderstorms the next four days.

That's a real conundrum.
I'll go with the Cattuweather Forecast

This is earlier this summer after a bad thunderstorm. So if we get a lot of water, I'm really concerned that I'm screwed. And living on the 'old side' of Fruit Cove, I have some of the old, huge, oaks.
We went to Mills field to get our free 20 sandbags, but in all honesty I don't think they'll do a damn thing since I have four doors exposed to the outside. The sandbags were a fiasco. They were supposed to be open 8:00 - 5:00. The truck got there at about 8:45, but he said the guy with the bags wouldn't be there until 10:00. There could definitely be some trouble a-brewing there. I'm planning on going back soon, but I'm really hesitant.
Goodness! How was your yard last year during/after Matthew? That should give you some idea as to what to do.
Actually, we didn't really get a whole lot of rain from that one. It was more the wind damage for me. We had just moved in and I had no idea that this would happen to the yard since we aren't technically in a 'flood plain'. Just really poorly planned drainage construction. I've been at odds with the county for three months now.
In the pictures, the water was
maybe four inches from coming in the house.

My wife and I actually have two rooms booked in case any family wanted to use it in Atlanta. I would suggest leaving at night. While there may be traffic, you will get there eventually. We don't plan on leaving because it looks like it will go further east than previously expected. I'm sure those two rooms will be taken quickly.
You think leaving is bad, coming back will be even worse.

Ponte Vedra Beach is forecasted to get sustained winds of 77mph on Sunday and 80mph on Monday. This does not include the gusts that can reach up to 100+ mph
We're heading to Gainesville Sunday morning as the electric and water will be getting shut off by the county.

Governor Scott just ordered escorts for fuel trucks. Drivers are lining up to volunteer.
