Superbowl?
In 2020 his contract jumps to over 12 mill.. but this year and next 2 years averfge around 9 per.. I assume we can cut him in 2020 and clear that if we want. Hes still just 27

Is 1 joint away from a year long ban though i believe.. if hes motivated we got a steal.. if not.. its a 6th rounder and a gamble im more than happy to make
This dline has the potential to be one of the best dlines of all time. loaded

Westbrook, Linder, Robinson, Fournette, Dareus. All coming soon
Although this eats up cap space I don’t think they make this trade unless they feel they can rework this deal. The secondary is locked up for at least another three years and Telvin is now a done deal for another 4. We have Jack for another 2, Yannick for another 2, Fowler for another two, Malik for another 2 and Campbell for 3 more. The defense is set to go on a run.

If they draft the right piece on offense next year we might be a new threat for some years to come.

But here’s my question: are they trying to make a Super Bowl run this year?
Given this happened on the bye week he might start vs Bengels.
I honestly am starting to think we let A Rob and Lee walk and draft a WR early in the draft
Honestly, I don’t think this move happens without Campbell.

He is going to hell Dareus on and off the field to get back to his All-Pro form. Buffalo was fed up with this guy and Dareus probably felt the same.
Actually this deal looks a TON better for us capwise as it sounds like Buffalo will be eating all the signing bonus portion of the dead cap.

I think they can too, which I why I'm a big fan of the deal.

Dude was an elite player a couple years ago, it's a STEAL if they can get him back to playing like that.

He’s only 27 so that bodes well

Slow down with SB talk but this shows they are serious this year.

Their goal is to win the South. If they do that, anything is possible. They wanna sure up the run defense and still be flexible enough to rush the passer too. Dareus can do it all.

Bortles plays well and who knows where the Jags end up this year.
Run stuffing DL acquired. Dang, at this point I am thinking the plan is we don't need an offense.

If this is true then this trade may go in the fleecing category.
That's a crapload of money on the DLine. I wonder how it will impact any possible resigning of ARob and Colvin. Surely Blake won't be back for $19 million either. Dareus has been a headache for his whole career. Easier to stomach when he posts 10 sacks in a season. Now, the production isn't matching the headache. This one makes me nervous. The saving grace is having a guy like Calais Campbell to keep him in line. And Marrone has experience working with him too.

Not saying Super Bowl but why take this type of cap hit when you have your own guys coming up for renegotiation in a few years. Save some cap space. Either there are more details on this deal or they a swinging for the fences for the next 2-3 years.
Who will they let go?
Love the pickup. He was easily the best DT in the game a few years ago and while I don't think he repeats that, he can step in and play great football with us. He won't have to play every snap and neither will Campbell and Jackson. This let's them stay fresh and in runnin situations we could have Campbell and Fowler at ends and Malik Jackson and Dareus at DT. And that's a good pass rush group also.
Basically a 2 year trial run with Dareus as he can be cut at the beginning of the 2019-2020 season with 0 dead cap space.

If he isnt motivated these next 2 years you just cut bait...this is the same time Yannick Jack DFJ will be coming up for extensions.

Still to early, he has 9 more games to prove himself
Few important things to note...

1) Dareus was hugely critical of Marrone when he left. Said he treated them like children and was always nervous around them. Made.lots of comments after he left trashing him. Will be an awkward first convo but I'm sure Marrone and him will be fine

2) Secondly , Dareus already has two strikes against his for substance issues and has had a few off the field problems. Is another strike a year?

3) His play has declined quite a bit from what is used to be.

It's still a great move considering what we have gave up and what we need but it still has a fair amount of risk involved. Excited to see this defense in place.

Jaguars can move on from the contract with ZERO dead cap after this year!
