Dareus is one of the top DTs in the league when healthy and motivated.. hes healthy.. and he now has to be motivated to play for a D like ours
As long as we dont get cap tied by this, this is an unreal steal and shores up our run D weakness. Amazing
Makes $6 million this season and $10 million next season. $21 million in dead cap if cut this offseason, but less than $8 million if cut after 2018 season.
Barring some cuts/restructures, we've lost a lot of money that would have made us big time players next offseason, so likely gone are the days of 2016/2017 free agency.
True, but we don't need those offseason's any longer. This team is mostly built.

Surely Blake won't be back for $19 million either. Dareus has been a headache for his whole career. Easier to stomach when he posts 10 sacks in a season. Now, the production isn't matching the headache. This one makes me nervous. The saving grace is having a guy like Calais Campbell to keep him in line. And Marrone has experience working with him too.
Now I could be wrong but if he get suspended doesn’t that stop his money from counting against the cap? This is really a win either way. The defense was on a record setting pace without him. Adding him almost ensures we make history this year as an all time defense. Losing him would only put us back in the previous boat of possibly making history with an elite defense.
He is literally like the 6th or 7th best player on our defense lol. Crazy right
I want to see a 5-2 defense
Yannick - Campbell - Darius - Jackson - Fowler

Ankou proly. What an upgrade
When I first saw this, I was really ticked off. I was sure we gave up at least a mid round pick to get him. Then, when I saw it was a 6th, I was ecstatic. We fill a major need with a proven player for the price of a late round pick. That is a heck of a deal for us! He's already been paid $43 million of his total deal and the contract he has, isn't that bad until 2020 and 2021 when he is due $14.65 million a season. With the part that Buffalo has agreed to pick up, we are getting away with murder! This is a great pick up for us, as long as he produces.
Zero dead cap if we cut him.

After the 2018 season.
Dosen't sound like bad numbers.

In 2 years from what I understand or are you saying if we cut him at anytime?
(10-27-2017, 07:43 PM)Tuxedo Wrote: [ -> ]Actually this deal looks a TON better for us capwise as it sounds like Buffalo will be eating all the signing bonus portion of the dead cap.
Yup! Buffalo ate the bonus. For them though it freed up future cap space.
All we need now is a solid QB. I can't wait for the 2018 NFL Draft!

After the 2018 season.
Yup
Wow.. Surprised we made this move, but this reeks of "Win now!"
The 6th rounder for the talent is great, but he has one strike left full suspension and on the hook for a lot of dead money.
A big risk if he isn't motivated to be the guy who was worth drafting #3 overall and resigned to a big deal.
Put him next to Calais in the locker room. room.

Did you read any of the posts above?

He is 1 joint away from a year long ban though I believe. if he's motivated we got a steal. If not, it's a 6th rounder and a gamble I'm more than happy to make
I could not see this coming. We are upgrading Sacksonville with a guy who has been suspended twice for drug test failures?
He probably is motivated to play for a different team.
If he isn’t motivated, it was a 6th round gamble. If he gets motivated, you get a great player for a 6th round investment.

IIRC Marcell Dareus complained about not being used properly or being a misfit with Rex Ryan's 3-4 scheme. But Sean McDermott changed everything, so I don't understand why he would not be wanted there anymore. There must have been more to the story that @RapSheet has not mentioned yet.
WOW!!!! WOW WOW WOW, did not see this coming in a million years!!
1st/2nd down
DE-Yannick/Fowler
NT-Dareus/Jones
DT-Malik/Day
DE-Calais/Smoot
3rd Down
DE-Yannick
DT-Calais
DT-Malik
DE-Fowler
Our worst Dlineman is Smoot, who has flashed a couple times still. I would imagine this means Day will move to the Ankou spot and Ankou will be attempted to be moved to the PS but someone if they are smart would snap him up
