Quote:We're going to look like a dumpster fire towards the end of the season.
Will Allen Robinson sign an extension with us? Telvin Smith? Prince? Linder? Hell, what about Bortles? People are overlooking this big time. Deion Sanders got the hell out of Atlanta when he had the chance, you have to think these players don't want to constantly lose and waste their careers with an inept franchise.
If we sign uncle Gussy to another extension, all bets are off.
Quote:Shad could go big and throw a blank checkbook at a "bigger name" like Cowher, Coughlin, Gruden, Harbaugh or Saban. Then there are coordinators like McDaniels, McDermott, and Austin. Finally we have the retread and college coaches like Mora and Fisher.
McDaniels seems polarizing on here but I am curious to see how much he has matured back under Belicheck. Also, Caldwell would be handling personnel which is one of the main things that lead to McDaniels getting canned.
He's matured big time. He's a different coach.
We should rule out McDaniels, just like the Patriots did with Belichick "we can't sign this guy, remember what happened in Cleveland?" :woot: :woot:
Quote:Has any former coach left the broadcast booth to go back to coaching? Those 3 day work weeks paying millions are hard to forfiet
Richard (aka "BAD WORD REMOVED") Vermeil won the SB with the Rams after being in the booth retired for several years.

For every Belichick there are 10 Mularkey's.

He was out a lot longer than Gruden, and Jon Gruden has kept up with trends in NFL football in spite of no longer coaching.
If I go another year with talking about draft position in friggin SEPTEMBER I'm gonna lose it.
Gus needs to be fired. If he isn't fired this week I will have lost all confidence in this front office.

If Gus comes back again next year, we might as well start talking draft in August, because things are never going to improve around here.
I was one of the delusional ones who almost fell for the hype this year, then reality hit and we're 0-2, soon to be 0-3. This team is simply poorly coached, the players aren't developed, there is no game plan, no halftime adjustments, we're just outclassed. The sooner we get rid of Gus, the sooner we'll be on the road to recovery.
There is no reason to keep Gus around any longer.

So? We should give a new guy a chance? maybe we can get the new Bradley.
McDaniels is a good option and he seems to be smart, unlike Gus. He also wouldn't have control over the personnel.
Todd Haley should be given a shot. He is a great OC and would make this offense into something scary.
As I posted in the other thread, there have been studies along some of these lines in the past few years. The first one showed that a coach that has been out of the job for a significant amount of time will not succeed. I don't remember the exact parameters about the length of time out of coaching, but it was something like 29 coaches and only Dick Vermeil was successful. The rest were busts. Please don't fight extreme history with Gruden or Cowher.
The second showed that second time head coaches actually fare quite well, a la Belichick but many others too. McDaniels or Haley, especially Haley, would be very solid replacement candidates I think. Especially since everyone's closest comp to Blake is Big Ben. Haley's offense should help Blake reach his fullest potential whatever that is.
Lastly, noooooooo to Coughlin. Just let his legacy shine and stay intact. Don't be tempted to bring back the guy who would be by far the oldest coach in the NFL. And he ain't some ageless marvel like Pete Carroll.
How about no staff, players just play. Can't be worse than now right?
Quote:I'd promote Olsen.
He's just as bad.
Doug Marrone is the only answer, imo. Dude went 9-7 with Kyle Orton and EJ Manuel at QB.

If they didn't fire him today, he won't be fired this week. They're already game planning for Baltimore as we speak.
The entire staff needs to be gutted from top to bottom. You have to cut the diseased tissue out of the organization or it will grow back.
I do think Marrone should be a legitimate candidate too, and one that we could/should get a very good look at post bye week. What he did in his short time in Buffalo was impressive and he had a very nice reputation before the unfair quitter label.
Firing Gus after week 4 and giving the job to Marrone for the rest of the season is by far the best option.
No poll option for "should've been fired last offseason."?
Replace this guy with Corky Rogers.
Or Corky from Life Goes On for that matter.
Simple Gus gotta go.
Quote:The ONLY big name I could see coming to the Jags is Jon Gruden and that's ONLY because he LOVES living in Florida and loves young QBs.
Yes, I remember those spring chickens Rich Gannon and Brad Johnson.

Jeff Garcia was barely eligible to join AARP, the youngster.
