Quote:Thank you for this post. This is exactly what we lack. The ability to design a defense to put the best guys on the field. If Jack doesn't have a position to play because of Telvin, then you make him one...

I can think of only 1 NFL coach that can legitimately do that defense and that is Belichick.
I'm honestly shocked that there are people that voted in favor of Bradley.  I'm curious as to what exactly WOULD convince them that he shouldn't be retained?

Quote:If we are not 2-2 at the bye Gus should be fired on the spot, 1-3 or 0-4 Gus should be gone

Give Greg Olsen the job for the rest of the year
LOL Greg Olsen? We would be even worse. What a Joke.

Well no wonder the same teams keep winning. That is a problem if we on this board can devise different schemes and the guys getting paid can't do it.
Gus only got 4 votes to retain his services through the fall.   I'm expecting 2 more votes by the end of the school day.

Coughlin would lead us to the playoffs for the next 3 years. He needs to be hired.
There's an off chance Marvin Lewis would get fired if Cincy doesn't win in the playoffs this year. I would definitely take him.

This is exactly why people were having this so called "knee jerk" reaction to wanting Gus Bradley fired last year.

Instead of promoting Marrone and finding out if he was capable, we now know nothing about Marrone, have zero time to properly look for a HC in hopes of salavaging this season.

Gus Bradley is the only person I've seen get an extension for being terrible. This guy has always been a joke, I'm glad the rebuild excuse is finally over with.

Won't disagree with you, but he's about as old as the knight from that Indiana Jones flick and I worry me may miss out on a coach that may be able to win AND coach for more than two or three years here.

And he's as healthy as a guy half his age.  Coughlin wants to get back into coaching as soon as is humanly possible.  From what I understand, if the team decides to go in a new direction, he'd be on the short list for sure. I think you could probably get 5 years out of Coughlin, and I doubt anyone would consider it missing out on other opportunities because the one thing Tom does is win more often than not.

It would be a pretty cool coming home story. That's for sure.

He's only 70. And even 2 or 3 years of him coaching is valuable for the development of our young players. These are key years being wasted under bobblehead Gus.
Quote:You mean the garbage time powerhouse? Blake had 9-300 yard games. Nine losses. Super cool having a powerhouse offense when you're down 30.

We don't have a powerhouse offense incase you didn't detect the sarcasm

There was only one game last season with legitimate garbage time and that was the New England game.
If we could lure him away from Stanford, David Shaw is far and away my number one choice. Whenever he decides to leave the college ranks, he's going to be one heck of an NFL coach.
Bring home Tom. Also make sure he has a protégé lined up.

Just give Belichick $20m

I'm tired of having the lowest paid, least experienced head coach.  That's been our strategy since the Del Rio era.

If not TC then Jimbo Fisher please.

70 is when George Halas retired. Joe Gibbs at 67. Not saying he couldn't. Just that you miss the chance of finding a Mike Tomlin who can win and solidify your HC position for a decade or so. Plenty of respect for Coughlin and wouldn't despise it if he came back. But I think Dave's penchant for youth to some degree carries over to the next HC we ultimately hire (assuming the Gus Bus doesn't make the recovery of a lifetime).
Jimbo Fisher? hmmm.... I don't like the college coach signing tbh. But we do have a lot of FSU ties in Duval. So, maybe? lol

GO JAGS!!

Quote:I don't see the season as lost, but I don't think that Gus could afford to have another one of those blowout losses that he's subjected us to over the past few years. The expectation this year should have been to be more competitive, and to eliminate embarrassments like yesterday.

I think we've done an amazing job of getting right to last place by week 2. That takes some skill. Fortunately, Indy has shown they want the cellar as badly as we do.

Season is lost buddy. With Gus as head coach we will go 0-4 and make a change at the bye and by then the season is shot.
