Vince Young threw the ball like Uncle Rico. We knew he was a fraud. Mariota has the nicest release in the league and drew Dan Marino comparisons.

Quote:Blake does have some nice traits and I do like the guy. He can be a top 10-15 QB with the right coaching (not buffoon Gus). But my goodness this guy needs to quit throwing TDs to the other team before we can take him seriously. 11 TDs to the Jags and 5 TDs to opposing defenses. But to be fair, defensive players on other teams are much more skilled and better catchers than our scrub WRs.
First off how much of the QB development is the defensive minded Head Coach's responsibility? I mean he can suggest his OC so in that aspect I agree with you, but some of the blame if not more goes to GM Dave Caldwell (whom hired Gus as well).
It is extremely hard to judge Blake Bortles because he has the worst OLine (last season, and while they improved during Preseason they didnt look great against an average rush defense in Carolina). He has below average WRs that are constantly injured and no run game (until this year). That being said he's going into his 2nd year, and he has to be more accurate with the football & make better throwing decisions.
He hasnt had the time to throw, and he does look at times like a rattled QB with no confidence in his OLine or WRs (probably why he kept throwing short to Greene).
His comments about the fans shows his bad judgement and frustration.
He (along with mgmt) really needs to have a strong game against the Dolphins. If he does all is forgiven and people will quickly forget his comments & the Panthers game. If he doesn't oh boy, I wouldnt come on this message board as it will mainly be negativity.

Quote:How sad...a thread of "Jags" fans worshipping the Tacks QB....we're not worthy, we're not worthy
Acknowledging the guy played well is "worshiping? The insecurities of Jaguar fans is sad, it's ok to admire other players. My god.

Excuse after excuse. Mariota plays for the sorry [BLEEP] titans. They have almost as little talent as us. Suddenly they have a potent offense. You all will be even more impressed with his week 1 performance when bortles throws for 175 yds a pick 6 and puts up 13 points vs the Bucs.

Haha yep, I want Blake to succeed as much as any other Jag fan but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concern. At some point he needs to put together 4 straight quarters of good football, he's yet to do that and still seems light years away from being able to that. We're all waiting for that "breakout game", and it sucks because we come away disappointed every week.

I was worried after seeing his 2nd half performance but I got really concerned after hearing his comments about the fans. It shows he is truly struggling on and off of the field. I would not be suprised if things go south against Miami if Gus benches Bortles.

We as fans keep craving a true franchise QB; time and time again we go all in and support the guy only to be let down. I really hope Bortles isnt like Gabbert, in fact the comparassion itself makes me gringe.
I am hoping the Panthers game was simply a fluke, and we'll see him play like we had in PreSeason against Miami...
If not hopefully Corey Grant can save this offense!

His lightning quick release is probably the quickest since marino. Whoever was calling that game made the comparison.

Vince Young was a running QB they always have a good rookie year and fizzle out, but Mariota won with his smarts & arm. I think he will last longer than VY did.

Quote:In what ways is Mariota "limited"? He's a freak athlete with great mechanics who has an advanced understanding of defenses at this stage in his career. His floor is high and upside is through the roof
His arm is pretty average at best. He loses a lot of accuracy when he has to drive it down the field.

Sounds like Bortles to me. Mariota has a cannon arm.

Wow. That's probably the first time I've ever heard Mariota has anything over plus arm strength. You can be a great quarterback without a cannon. Mariota has some good traits as a prospect, you don't need to make up more.

Peyton Manning's declining arm strength didn't come as news (from an article)
Do we put too much importance on Arm Strength when rating QBs?

Gimme a smart, accurate QB over an inaccurate one with a cannon any day.

Quote:He was incredibly impressive, the Bucs aren't good but threw a bunch of different coverages and blitzes at him, he burnt them almost every time, the kid seems to process information fast which allows him to make quick decisions. Their offensive coordinator said Mariota is the smartest player he's been around.
All those smarts and yet he still throws the ball with a very low trajectory. I see him doing well enough to follow in the footsteps of other QBs with a similar trajectory such as Rodney Pete, David Carr and Neil O'Donnell. Keep in mind the Bucs had zero tape on Mariota in a regular season game. As teams amass tape on him there's a chance his luck just might take a change for the worse as defenders figure out they can bat down or intercept his throws. Keep in mind the Bucs even had one surefire pick six flat out dropped.

Good point the Bucs stink as they did last year, but the Browns arent great either. The DBs are better in Cleveland so let's see how good Mariota is this week before crowning him.

Rotoworld has Blake ranked 30th over Johnny Football and Texans starter Ryan Mallett
so its not that bad I guess..

Cheers for this mate. Hope you are right and he flames out. As classless as I sound, I genuinely hope he doesn't become elite, at least not in the near future anyway. The thought of tacks joining twinks to surpass us with tinhorns D as viable as it is makes me shudder. You think it's bad now in Jacksonville? Imagine if the South grows that fast, without a QB here to mitigate things? #PerennialDisaster
