Wasn't his best performance but he still has a chance to be a solid player. Give him Lee and Thomas and a Robinson who can actually catch the ball he can be better. Really thought Yeldon looked pretty good on that 3rd drive and they could have ridden him a bit more. Lets hope for the sake of the franchice he plays better in the next coming weeks, if not I may not even bother following the team anymore. It gets so frustrating investing time with no return on investment. I don't think my sig could ever be more appopriate.

Quote:This is basically the same team we had at the end of last year.  Our #1 pick is out for the year.  JT is out a few weeks.  We started a rookie running back.

What did you expect?  Remember....IT'S ONE STINKING GAME!  Let's give it a few weeks before we jump off the Dames Point Bridge.
This would mean our players aren't developing properly. They should be better this year and start showing how they'll be in the NFL. We are building through the draft, not FA. We need JT back and Marks, but those two shouldn't be responsible for the rest of the teams performance.
Quote:It's not about disliking him, it's the realization that we just don't know yet what we have at QB. It's troubling. I think that's the biggest dissapointment in many Jag minds right now.

I was really hard on BB5 yesterday after the game.  And let's face it, he didn't play well.  Others want to give him a pass for the drops he had.

But let's not forget he threw some really bad ducks yesterday, especially early on where I had no idea what he was thinking...  So the deal is that we just have to chalk it up to a bad game by a young QB.

Hopefully he plays much better against Miami.  But the concern I think those of us who are honest will have is that BB5 is great in pre-season and cannot be consistent in the regular season.

Nobody, however should compare BB5 to Blaine Gabbert.  EVER.  BB5 shows glimpses and has shown glimpses of real talent during regular season games.  Even yesterday, that 2 minute drill was a thing of beauty.  Even last year, BB5 would have stretches where he was productive.  Blaine never had that.  Blaine would get lucky on a pass or two during a game.  BB5 can put a few series together in a game.  Huge difference.
After relaxing and thinking about the game I think I realized that as of now Blake is a game manager.

15-25 pass attempts

200 - 300 passing yards

1-3 touchdowns a game should be his goals. He had 40 pass attempts to his recievers yesterday. He's not ready for games like that yet. I hope we learned that the WR group isnt as good as we thought they were so the TEs should be involved in the passing attack. I not giving up on blake yet at this point i think his skill set isnt being utilized correctly
Well...

our franchise quarterback has a l o n g way to go! But not to worry; he has really worked hard at improving his throwing mechanics and the payoff is... oh wait...

Really good points.  One thing I was thinking...  Our run game started off kinda bad.  Yeldon wasn't getting much yardage in the first quarter.  Then we started running it better as the 2nd Quarter went on, with Shoelace also getting into the mix.

I feel like we completely abandoned that waaaaaay too early.  That could have also helped BB5 in the 2nd half.  Sorry, I don't want to derail this thread into one about the game plan.

I'll just say that BB5 would also be helped alot more with some determination to have a run game.  BB5 had a tough game, some may say he threw a "Blank" yesterday.  But he's still got alot of promise in my mind.  I just keep going back to that 2 minute drill...  That's not something you see everyday.  It was damn near clutch...  That alone should give us hope, though it's very very slight.  It's still hope.

The payoff is improved throwing mechanics....

Hopefully they were experimenting and learned a lesson. Next week we should see more ground and pound & play defense type of gameplan. Bortles isnt ready to varry the load on offense and thats ok

So he'll be taking over Tom House's job when Tom hangs it up? What does better mechanics matter when he's throwing wild all game long?

Well his motion looked really solid in that pick six. You gotta admit.
Can he wear those shades that Mike Vick and Tomlinson wore so that the DBs and LBs cant read his eyes?

If you don't think he looked better and more accurate than last year then I don't know what to tell you.
Yeah he missed high a lot. I don't know if the nerves got to him or what. What concerned me was his pocket presence seemed to get worse as the game went on and that pick 6 was just awful. Like really awful.

I think his confidence was shot after the pick 6, and his mechanics and pocket presence went down the drain. It's not like he was under a ton of pressure all game.

Bottles routinely over throws. Go back to preseason and watch his play. This is who he is. Hell you can go back to his college tape and see that. Go take a look for your self. The mechanics are improved 10 yards in. Anything much more than that and it gets cloudy.
The Jaguars use a hybrid West Coast Offense that relies on the short passing game to act as somewhat of an extension to the running game.  The typical "West Coast Offense Scheme" Is to pass first and run 2nd (get a big lead & then tire out the defense which kills the clock) theory.  This Pro Set Offense is favorable to TJ Yeldon which adds to the reason of starting him over Denard Robinson.    It also explains why Rashad Greene from Florida State had so many targets as it is the exact type of Offense (Pro-Set) used by the Seminoles.

Seattle uses a West Coast (Bradley when he was there), Ast. HC Marrone (used a hybrid West Coast in Buffalo), and OC Olson he has always changed his scheme over the years to fit what it is wanted by the franchise.

"He's very good at developing QBs with scheme and to best utilize the personnel. Obviously, that's an area of concern for us that we've got to get better at." - Gus Bradley

----------------------------------

(From Wiki)

The West Coast offense requires a quarterback who throws extremely accurately, and often blindly, very close to opposing players. In addition, it requires the quarterback to be able to quickly pick the best one of five receivers to throw to, certainly much more quickly than in previously used systems. Often, the quarterback has no time to think about the play and must act robotically, executing the play exactly as instructed by the offensive coordinator, who calls the plays for him.

(in regards to WR Greene)

The West Coast offense requires sure-handed receivers who are comfortable catching in heavy traffic, and the system downplays speedy, larger receivers who are covered easily in short yardage situation.

(in regards to RB Yeldon & Robinson whom can catch, also why they threw to Grant)

"WCO" systems also rely on agile running backs that catch the ball as often as they run.

-------------------------

Once you realize exactly what the Jaguars are trying to do on Offense (the big picture) it really explains a lot of what we saw yesterday.
In an interview Blake Bortles mentioned how Brett Favre is his QB idol as a kid growing up, whom also threw in a West Coast Scheme Offense.  It is funny how Brett Favre holds the record for the most sacked, and the most INTs thrown, but let us not forget all the yards, tds, and playoff wins he had during his career.

That is what you get with Blake a constant drive to drive down the field and score.  You don't get that with Chad Henne whom plays too safe as to punt every drive.  Keep that in mind when bashing Bortles.

Quote:I agree. Just seemed that anything that could go wrong, did. And that's kind of what has been happening the past 2 years.

I think you mean 8 years...
Quote:Lol he overthrew at least 5 passes because he's scared and innacurrate.

I think it's more likely he was throwing those balls away. If you notice, nobody was open on those plays. At least nobody he saw. I know the wide outs he threw the ball towards on those plays certainly weren't open.
