As long as ours stays above water we have a 15kw Generac just waiting to purr. we have never lost power here for extended lengths of time as much of the power grid is underground around us.

I was driving by Taco Lu earlier around 7 am hitting a ice machine at the marina. Ditch is up some but not as much as I would have thought with the northeaster we have had for two days already.. Was actually not sold out. amazing. Our Khans are swimming in it as I type.
Quote:4K a year? That is a lot. I hope you don't get any damage, but if you do, good luck in your negotiations with the crooked insurance adjusters.
Actually that is for two homes I have here. the rental is substantially more. Also have to carry Flood and Fire/homeowners.

What's your elevation?

Property is 9 ft . home itself is 12 4t, genny is on stand making it around 15ft.
Quote:Watching coverage of this thing one would think that they are hoping for the catastrophic damage they keep predicting. They are instilling fear in those who are not used to such events. We have had Northeasters that will easily match this thing in intensity.

I'm not exactly from the area, but following the team as long as I have I've picked up on some of the trends. I know that even the most severe hurricanes end up missing Jacksonville one way or another, and that there is a feeling this will do the same. The thing is, I'm reading stuff about this not being like any hurricane that Jacksonville has had to face for over a century. I think you might be in for a surprise, and I hope you're typing this from your brother-in-law's place.

I can just see that pitch meeting:

Tidal wave that destroys San Fran? Not good enough, it's been done.

Tidal wave that throws a cargo ship through the Golden Gate bridge? Still not enough, we need more.

Tidal wave, cargo ship, golden gate bridge and a cruise ship rolling through downtown? No, it needs personalization.

Ok, tidal wave, cargo ship, golden gate bridge, cruise ship, and we drop a cargo container on a guy with a thinly developed back story? closer, closer.

Still needs something else....hmmmmm.. some real Hollywood star power...yeah, get me The Rock on the phone... Hello Dwayne, say, can you drive a boat?
I can't stand weather people in the storm. "Nobody should be out here. Don't do what I'm doin.. Duuuuurrrrrrr".. Idiots..
Quote:Taco Lu is even lower than 3rd Street.  That area will flood first as the intercoastal rises.

They're in the old Homestead place, aren't they?

Yes.

I'm at 9' also, back by the intercoastal.  If we get flooded, it will be from there first.

Yep, it's haunted Smile

lol, that movie was hilarious and terrible.
Side comment, does anybody have opinions about generators? Looking into getting one for next season. Any opinions on gas vs propane? We have a huge propane tank in the ground for the spa and was curious if that can be used as a source for a portable propane generator, or if it would have to be one of the standby generators.

A real man would have at least 2 300's on a boat that size.

That's true...I've even seen it on some of those haunted places tv shows! If it's on tv...it has to be true.

I have never seen any evidence of it, but it has pretty much been the local reputation since I could remember.

Well he was passing every boat out there, so obviously he didn't need anything bigger!

Does this mean you've decided to stick it out there?

At least 15 ft sounds a whole lot better than 9. Are all the windows boarded up and all sand bags stacked?
