Some people are idiots.  I had to go into work to check on things and was held up by people stopping in the middle of the road taking pictures.  There are a few rather large trees down in my neighborhood, but I didn't see any damage to homes.  Going to pull out the chain saw and see if any of the neighbors need a hand cleaning up.

Quote:Sustained winds now 30mph with gusts at 35-40 and occasionally up to 50. I am about 216 miles from where Matthew is now and getting this and it's a Cat 1. I can't imagine a 3 or 4.

Stay safe. Those 50 mph gust brought down alot of trees in my area.

Word. Sitting here watching them dance in this wind, it's quite fascinating and terrifying at the same time. If the ones I can see out of any of my windows fell just the right way we would be looking for another place to live. I am thankful we cleaned up the yard and my husband cleared out as many dead branches as he could get off of the trees immediately surrounding our house. Some smaller ones have come down, thankfully on nothing but the ground.

We've had 6 inches of rain since midnight. I'm glad we live on a hill. If we were 1/2 a mile down the road we would be in a 'valley' and screwed. My husband had to work this weekend and he has to go out in this mess.
We have been in the yellow and orange on the radar all day and it looks like we will continue to be for the duration of this party. Also just read where tropical force winds will expand out after meeting up with a cold front over the next 12-24 hours.

Quote:Caught 2 black racers so far.

I'm 3-4 miles from Doctors inlet so I'm expecting to see some cottonmouths soon once the ground dries up.

Keep the racers. They'll keep the others at bay
Now we are reminded how much insurance is a scam. 2% tagged on due to a hurricane? Tree falls on a trailer? Tough. Must hit house, fence or garage. Etc etc.

Pisses one off that you pay your premiums for years, and in many cases it isn't worth filing unless it's catastrophic.

Rant over. Piss you insurance companies.
Quote:I'm glad you made it through the hurricane, although I'm noticing you haven't posted on the boards since this post. Everything ok?
Yes, thanks for asking. We had folks gathering at the house that were in the dark at theirs.. Turned into quite the little party. Even some of Jax Bch. Finest joined for a little while.

Pretty much like that here both yesterday and today.  Have my sons and their wives, daughter and grandson over at the moment.  Power is out at their homes and not expected to be restored until tomorrow.  We spent part of the morning/early afternoon checking on neighbors and helping to clean up debris.  I also took my 2 generators over to my son's homes to at least keep their refrigerators and freezers running.

Lost power 8:30 AM Friday. Back on FPL power here in Sanford 3:30 PM Saturday. We are in a section of town that lost power, but most of Sanford didn't. We had a generator running, but we're really enjoying having the A/C back.

Some small limbs down, a few larger ones in the neighbors' yards. No significant damage that I could see.

I didn't see any news until late this morning. How did Jax do as a whole?

10 deaths so far confirmed in the US caused by Matthew.
Clay electric says Monday at the earliest for power maybe as late as next Friday.
Are we all dead yet?

You just gotta ask yourself; is this the real life? Or is it just fantasy?

Our yard was a mess. A couple of trees down. Tons of branches. Spent all day cleaning up. No power and phone will be gone soon. A couple of huge trees fell in the power lines about a mile from us but no JEA activity yet. Since this is only affecting 100-150 people, I seriously doubt they'll be here tomorrow either.

About the same for us except, miracle of miracles, we never lost power.  I think it may be due to the power lines being underground in our neighborhood.  Three trees down and you can't see the driveway for all the branches and debris.  Many downed branches.  Got a good start on the cleanup today but this is going to take a while (our property is about an acre and a half).  I count us very, very lucky some people especially at the beaches really got hammered.
Woohoo miracles happen we got power in palatka!

You don't have a charger in your car?

Look out, urbanization comes to Palatka!  What's next, a traffic light?  Metered parking spaces?
