Quote:Trapped in a bed and breakfast? They had ample time to leave. If those morons volunteered to stay in the direct line of a storm surge, then they simply aren't bright. Probably didn't want to lose his deposit.
Yeah..,they had mandatory evacuations of all downtown St. Augustine yesterday...no excuses why they got "trapped"!!

Almost sounds like a Seinfeld episode. George puts down a deposit and rides out a category 5 hurricane because it is non-refundable.

20 people, including children, stuck in #StAugustine bed & breakfast. They say they're getting worried, as the surge is about to come in.
That's right on a Bay Street, isn't it? And 20 people are there?? They are idiots.

At the very least, it looks like the type of street that's not equipped to handle high flooding.
Some of the 20 people are reportedly children. Their parents, guardians, and/ or others responsible for them certainly dropped the ball.
What also comes to mind is why isn't mandatory for a lodging facility in an evacuation area to close during a hurricane that calls for an evacuation? And if it's indeed mandatory for them to close, the owners of the facility shouldn't be allowed to remain in business.
I was surprised that after St Augustine was ordered to evacuate the hotels were full. Maybe they wanted to get the full hurricane experience.

Idiots is the nice way to describe them.
First and second street at the beach looking like a fast moving river.

Mandatory evacuation means mandatory evacuation. Hopefully no one looses their lives for being an idiot.

That area floods during a heavy rain storm...there is no reason they should still be in that B&B, especially with children!!!
Tomorrow may be a good day to take the kids to Disney.
I'm just stopping by to hope you guys stay safe out there. Please, please stay safe.

I came across a couple of pictures of conditions in St. Augustine. If this doesn't reinforce what you expressed, probably nothing will. The links will provide the pictures:
