Waiting to find out who gets the Franchise Tag before I provide my next Mock Off-season.

I don't expect Jake Fisher to be around in round 2 let alone round 3 but if he is I'd be happy to have him.
Minor alterations to my earlier one

It's Monday, but we don't know who will be tagged or not, specifically we do not know if JPP or Suh, will be on the market, so these two are excluded from consideration at this point, because quite frankly, I feel like having some fun and putting out another Off-season Mock.

Free Agency

1. Randal Cobb - WR - Green Bay - 10.5 Mil/Yr

Dave Caldwell feels very strongly that the Jags need to sign a high profile WR to assist the Jags young WR Corps. The fact that Cobb is not yet 25 years and yet still has 4 years experience is the perfect match of experience and youth. Caldwell overpays a bit but that is to be expected from the Jags on the first day of Free Agency.

2. Julius Thomas - TE - Broncos - 10 Mil/Yr

Caldwell snags the 2nd offensive weapon for Blake Bortles and the Jags Offense. Both Cobb and Thomas excel in the Red Zone and that is where games are won and lost. Caldwell wants more wins and signing these two receivers should assist in that goal.

3. Jerry Hughes - DE-Leo - Bills - 10 MIl/Yr

Signing Jerry Hughes accomplishes two things. First it fills the need for the Pass Rusher on the Jags Defensive Line and it allows the Jags plenty of flexibility on draft day. While there are those who feel that Hughes' stats are inflated by the talent that surrounds him, I think that Caldwell will provide a similar level of talent around Hughes as he had in Buffalo and accordingly there is the hope for similar results out of the Pass Rush DE-Leo prospect.

4. Joe Barksdale - ORT - Rams - 3.5 Mil/Yr

Barksdale is strong in the run game which will be newly emphasized in the Jags 2015 Offense. Further by placing him next to Linder, his pass protection skills should improve dramatically.

5. Ron Parker - FS - Chiefs - 3 Mil/Yr

Sure Parker wants 6 Mil per year, just as all of us would in his position, but he will find no takers at that rate, so he will take the best deal offered to him for more than the one year "Prove It" deal.

6. Akeem Ayers - Otto LB - Patriots - 3.5 Mil/Yr

The Jags are looking to fill the Otto LB position with a talent that has the unique skillset envisioned by Gus for the position. Ayers excelled with the Titans his first two years as a SLB and is the best available talent on the market to fill this all important position in the Jags Defense.

7. Tyson Alualu - DE - Jaguars - 3.5 Mil/Yr

I suspect that Alualu wants to check out his market value and once he does the Jags will end up being his best option.

Draft

The Jags enter this draft with the cloud of Marcus Mariota hanging over the teams draft efforts. In the end, I believe that the Titans will draft Marcus Mariota with Pick 2 and then see if they can squeeze the Eagles for a better deal than their pre-draft proposal. Either the Titans make a trade involving the Eagles 1st, 2nd and 3rd Rd Picks in 2015 plus a Rd 1 Pick in 2016 plus the Nick Foles throw-in or they keep their future Franchise QB. Either way, the Jags select next...

Rd 1(3): Leonard Williams - DE - USC

Jags take their 5 Tech DE who may start at the 3 Tech while SenDerrick Marks get healthy.

Rd 2(36) TRADE - Jags trade Pick 36 to the Browns for Pick 43 (Rd 2) and Pick 115 (Rd 4).

Rd 2(43): Cedric Ogbuehi - ORT/OLG - Texas A&M

Jags can not pass on this Rd 1 talent that falls due to a knee injury. Ogbuehi provides the Jags with the talent to move anywhere along the Oline. Ultimately, he may be placed at the OLG position replacing Zane Beadles in his 2nd or 3rd year.

Rd 3(67): David Johnson - RB - Northern Iowa

Jags take their bellcow, whom they envision as an Arian Foster type RB who can get the tough yards between the tackles as well as catch passes out of the backfield.

Rd 4(103): Eric Rowe - FS - Utah

Played FS for three years and his senior year at CB. He is a tall active and rangy DB, whom the Jags will initially try at FS.

Rd 4(115): Kyle Emanuel - Leo/Otto - North Dakota State

Intriguing prospect that Alfie introduced me to and I find has SLEEPER written all over him. I think he is groomed as an Otto LB.

Rd 5(138): MyCole Pruitt - TE - Southern Illinois

Pass catching TE/HBack who will serve as the perfect compliment to Julius Thomas. His hands are excellent, but his route running and blocking will take some time to develop.

Rd 6(175): James Sample - SS - Louisville

FS/SS hybrid with good size and range providing quality depth at the Safety positions.

Rd 7(211): Derrick Malone - OLB - Oregon

Undersized LB who played in the middle for the Oregon Ducks. He needs to add some weight to his 6'1" - 220 lbs frame, but he is active and willing and worth a 7th Rd flyer.

Stigma, overall your latest offseason mock looks like one that would have us as not only playoff contenders, but also division and maybe even conference contenders. I do have a couple of initial thoughts.

One thing I think is that we need to consider a MLB. Even if you are one that thinks Poz is still sufficient, he is getting a little older, slower and even injury prone. Might be nice to consider a MLB to, at the very least, prepare to take over for the future. Considering you signed Barksdale and I consider Pasztor a decent backup option, I personally would have preferred to see a MLB than Ogbuehi, but I do understand why you went the way you did, since he provides LG versatility.

I am a big fan of David Johnson, but I like Jay Ajayi just a little more. Just personal taste on that pick, I like either or though.

I know we've discussed the 3 safeties before, but again I understand it. Parker/Cyp would be the starters. Sample would be quality depth/competition. And Rowe would be quality depth/competition with the versatility to move to CB should that be needed.

I would replace Ayers with Worilds as well, but this may be a personal taste thing as well.

I have given a lot of thought about drafting Eric Kendricks at Pick 36, who I think would be the Jags version of Bobby Wagner. First, I am not sure that he makes it to Pick 36, since he seems like the No. 1 ILB in the draft. I could see the Cardinals and the Packers both having some interest in him.

I thought about taking an ILB like Mike Hull in Rd 4 with the extra pick that I secured from the only trade down opportunity that I think the Jags will consider seriously which is trading down in Rd 2 due to the abundance of talent that falls out of Rd 1 into the top of Rd 2, specifically as it relates to the DT class or the OLB class.

In the end, I think that Cedric Ogbuehi is the highest rated player on the board in Rd 2 and he falls due injury. I am not sure he falls into Rd 3, so the trade down in Rd 2 makes sense to grab him.

I chose Kyle Emanuel in Rd 4, because his upside is so intriguing.

Let's face it, the Jags will have Poz for one more season and whomever the Jags sign will be a backup and special teams player.

BTW, have you checked out Derrick Malone - OLB - Oregon? He played ILB for the Ducks and had 105 TT last season at the position. He is a little light in the pants at 220 lbs, but if he can put on some weight and keep his speed, he could be a sleeper. He did not get a Combine invite but he could be just what the Jags are looking for at the ILB position.

I think that ILB will be a target for the 2016 draft.

Regarding the Jay Ajayi versus David Johnson, it truly is a matter of taste. Personally, I think that Ajayi goes late in Rd 2 where there will be a run on RBs, with as many as four being taken in Rd 2, assuming two are taken in Rd 1. I really believe that David Johnson is comparable to Arian Foster but with perhaps better hands. Johnson may have the best hands of any non-WR in this draft and that makes him extremely valuable.

Both Parker and Barksdale are short term fixes that could stick or be replaced by drafted players from this draft class a year or two down the road.

Regarding Akeem Ayers, I think he will cost half of what Jason Worilds will cost. It would not surprise me if the Titans target Worilds.

In the end, Akeem Ayers is another place holder at the Otto position and someone that the Jags will look to replace in a future draft class.

Like this guy.  I think he'd be perfect for our style of play.
I think at this point, I will keep my draft as it currently stands above.

Free Agents

1. Devin McCourty - FS - Patriots - 10.5 Mil/Yr

Jags need this centerfielder to make their defense function.

2. Jerry Hughes - DE/Leo - Bills - 10.5 MIl?yr

20 Sacks and 40 QBHs in 2 Years - sign him up. - Other than McCourty allows most freedom of choice in draft

3. Julius Thomas - TE - Broncos - 10 Mil/Yr

Red Zone target that can open the middle of the field to the Offense.

4. Joe Barksdale - ORT - Rams - 3.5 Mil/Yr

Alternative to Brian Bulaga at less than half the price. Still want to grow through the draft - see Rd 2 pick (Cedric Ogbuehi)

5. Akeem Ayers - Otto - Patriots - 3 MIl/Yr

Starting Otto LB

6. Tyson Alualu - DE - Jaguars - 3.5 MIl/Yr

Backup 5 Tech

Total Free Agents: $41 Mil out of 68 Mil

Do we have any extra picks this year in the draft? To my knowledge we have our standard 7..is that right?

My mock included a trade down in Rd 2 to add an extra Rd 4 selection.

I really hope we dont trade down at all, unless the offer is just too good to pass up. I agree the Eagles trade would be a nice win for us, but realistically, I dont see Philly mortgaging the farm for him.

Our roster is full of decent NFL talent, now we need some impact playmakers.

EDIT: Instead of drafting depth, we should fill it with cheap but solid additions like we did with Roy Miller, Clemmons, Ball. These guys can spot start if the rookie play is bad, but we should be featuring our young guys most of the time.

Free Agent Mock: For this mock, I utilized the over the cap website. They have a calculator in which you can sign players for different contracts and it will calculate remaining salary cap and whatnot. http://overthecap.com/calculator/jacksonville-jaguars/ For this, I was looking at contracts Caldwell has handed out to different players as far as signing bonuses, roster bonuses, guaranteed money and so on, and mixed this with what players similar to intended targets have gotten in the past and then factored in making it more likely the player would sign, such as front-ending contracts and so on. Unfortunately, you can't save your results, so here is basically where I had ended.

Resign:

Alan Ball                    2 year - 900K/year

Tyson Alualu             5 year - 3m/year

JT Thomas                4 year - 900K/year

Ryan Davis                4 year - 1m/year

Austin Pasztor           4 year - 1m/year

Restructured/Extended to cheaper deals:

Paul Posluszny          3 year - 5m/year

Marcedes Lewis         3 year - 3m/year

Free Agents:

Julius Thomas            5 year - 9m/year

Jeremy Maclin            5 year - 10m/year

Bryan Bulaga             5 year - 7m/year

Devin McCourty         5 year - 10m/year

Ndamukong Suh        5 year - 20m/year

Between resignings, restructurings to gain more money and then front loading the contracts, the remaining cap space was just over 12 million. What I really like about this was the front loaded contracts are more appealing to the players and I structured them in ways that the real life player would highly consider signing it. We still had 12 million left and due to the front loaded nature, lots of money would be opened up by the time we need to sign our own players.

Seems to me that Brian Bulaga will sign for much more than 7 Mil/Yr on the open market.

I bet he gets closer to 10 Mil/Yr than 7 Mil/Yr.

If he was going to sign for 7 Mil/Yr he would have signed with the Packers.

I see every single (premium free agent) contract you quoted as being much lower than what the market will offer.

Remember there are 20 teams with over 20 Mil to spend.

Sticker shock is coming to a team near you.

10 mil is LT money. Somebody may pay him that, but I highly doubt it. I think he would take a 7 million dollar deal if is was heavily laced with incentives, bonuses and guaranteed money that I had included that is not visible.

Again, in my write up, I explained that their is much more to the contract then just the per year average, their is a signing bonus not included, roster bonus not included, workout bonus not included, plus a very front heavy contract of loads of guaranteed money. Hence contracts looking "lower than what the market will offer." Teams may offer more per year than I have listed, but they probably won't come as close to the incentives, bonuses and guaranteed money that I had.
Quote:I'd like to see the Jags trade up into the lower half of the first round for Gurley. I know the draft is deep at the running back position but I feel Gurley would be worth it

Even with the injury I can't see him falling into the second round
In this mock I did the Jags trade down with Philly, then use some of the picks to trade back into the first round and grab Todd Gurley.  Note: Depending on how his Pro Day goes,  I can see Shane Ray falling some.   I don't know if he falls as far as I put him here in this draft, but it just turned out that way when the Saints took Beasley over him and nobody else had a big need for OLB/DE.

These are crazy times. I fully expect many Free Agents will bust the ceiling on the salaries of current players. This is what the CBA is all about, revenue sharing, whereby the Players share in the wealth created by the NFL. Because so many teams have so much money and they want to spend that money on the top players the top players will get a disproportionate amount of this new found league wealth. Make no mistake the top OT on the market is Brian Bulaga and I can pretty much assure you that he knows he is getting more than 7 Mil/Yr. Would anyone be surprised if Bulaga got 10 Mil/Yr?

You can do all the crazy accounting you want. When a team spends 100 Mil dollars over 5 years that usually equates to 20 Mil/Yr. Agents like to play these games, but in the end, the player is looking for the most money in his pocket.

The math is not all that complicated.

Stigma, I always like your opinion on different topics, so I'm just going to say that I highly doubt Bulaga gets 10 million a year even with overbidding and yes, even with all the different accounting and whatnot 7 probably wouldn't be enough. I just know the highest paid RT makes 7 million, so if Bulaga gets 10 million, well good for him.

Hopefully, he signs for 8.5 million so that we can both be right.

Believe whatever you want to believe.

If that makes you happy, that is fine by me.

We simply disagree on this matter.

Well, I think we can both agree this guy will be wrong. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/23349...ver/page/6
