Pick 36: Melvin Gordon - RB
im starting to think this is how it will play out for us. i dont hate it. im not crazy about taking a rb at 36, but if melvin gordon winds up being as good as he could be, then ill be happy about it.
personally id rather get bernardrick mckinney there, since in your scenario he is still available, or maybe a small trade up to get maxx williams.
We'd have the best two rounds of the 2015 draft if that happened. I highly doubt Gordon lasts until pick #36 though. I don't see him getting past the Cowboys.
You set it up nicely so the Cowboys would have very highly rated, and home-state DT Malcolm Brown to chose over Gordon, but that won't happen either. Brown would go to Lions before Goldman easily (and more likely to the Browns at #18 over Armstead), and the Cowboys would take Gordon if he was still available.
I just don't think many teams will value RBs over lineman in the first round. I fully expect there to be a run on RBs in Rd 2 and it makes sense that is where the teams will get their RBs.
Too few RBs can carry the full load in the NFL so the position is shared and that in and of itself devalues the position.
Lastly, Gordon is not the complete RB, in as much as he does not catch the ball out of the backfield as well as other RBs.
Honestly, I could see Jay Ajayi at Pick 36 just as easily as Melvin Gordon with Gordon still on the draft board.
Let's say the Jags do not trade pick 3 in the 1st round (no reasonable offers), it would be a shocker if they didn't take either Williams or one of the LEO/OTTO
candidates (Fowler, Beasley or Ray) who don't have major red flags (Gregory).
The toughest pick will be in round 2. Do they simply go BAP or do they take the best player at a position of great need? Most would say the positions of greatest need are free safety and running back in that order. My list of round 2 priorities are the following (from best to less desireable):
1. Best free safety prospect: This could likely be someone who played CB in college, but whose skillset also translates to safety. The top 2 would be P.J.
Williams and Quinten Rollins, although Williams probably will be a 1st rounder. I selected this position 1st since I don't have
confidence that there is currently a quality free safety on the team (including their new free agent from Indy who has started
maybe 5 games and is best known for his Rick Flair Impersonation). This position is critical and the Jags need to upgrade.
2. Melvin Gordon: If no safety is considered due to the Jags draftboard, Gordon would be a great pickup even though he isn't a good pass
catcher.
3. Eli Harold: Only if they take Williams with the first pick. Great athlete who can get to the quarterback.
4. Ereck Flowers Great run blocker who can play right tackle or guard. Parnell will hopefully work out, but still need depth.
5. Cameron Erving Love his versatility. If Jags don't acquire a free agent center for depth, he would be solid pick.
I left out Maxx Williams for a couple reasons. Number 1, he'll probably be a 1st rounder and secondly, they already have Julius Thomas.
What are your thoughts on this round 2 selection?
Quote:Would love this draft.
Would go for o-line by round 5 at least , either than that it looks nice

I won't be shocked if they take Cooper at 3. I won't love it, but it won't surprise me if they do it. For all we know, Gregory was their number 1 target before the drug test failure, and now they have someone else rated 1.

I can see the Jags taking Ajayi at #36 if he is there. He is said to be the most "complete RB" in the draft, and does a lot of things well.
I still say Gordon won't be around at that pick, but you never know.
if we end up with Leonard and Melvin with our first 2 picks, I would be ecstatic. That's probably best case scenario right now.

nice draft, would add much more speed to the team also
In this mock draft, the Jags find themselves with both QBs off the board and Leonard Williams available, then the phone rings and the Redskins are on the other side with an offer of Pick 5 and 69 for Pick 3. Dave Caldwell smiles because he wanted to move down anyway, so the trade is made.
Rd 1(5): Dante Fowler - DE - Florida - Will he be the pick or will it be Vic Beasley, IDK, but I say Fowler at this spot.
Rd 2(36): Carl Davis - DT - Iowa - Was the monster of the Sr. Bowl and can play 5 Tech, 3 Tech or 1 Tech
Rd 3(67): Cody Prewitt - FS - Mississippi - The Centerfielder FS that Gus has been looking for.
Rd 3(69): Ameer Abdullah - RB - Nebraska - Senior Bowl MVP - Star in the making
Rd 4(103): Vince Mayle - WR - Washington State - Big Slot WR (6'2" 220lbs) that will overpower tiny CBs - Return Specialist
Rd 5(139): Jarvis Harrison - OG - Texas A&M - Can play OT or OG - best at OLG
Rd 6(179): Kyle Emanuel - Otto LB - North Dakota State - Small School Sleeper DE/Otto LB
Rd 7(220): Justin Coleman - CB - Tennessee - Slot CB

Ameer is my #3 RB only after Gurley and Gordon. Do you really see him falling into round three? IMO he's truly the next Marshawn Lynch. With Ameer on the roster, Greg Olsen's offense is going to run just fine.

Marshawn is a one of a kind my friend.
Fanspeak via the CBS draft board:
1) Vic Beasley - LEO/OTTO
2) Todd Gurley - RB
3) Denzel Perryman - MLB
4) Philip Dorsett - WR/PR/KR
5) Ifo Ekpre-Olomu - FS/CB
6) Kyle Emanuel - FB/OTTO
7) Jarvis Harrison - OG
This draft seems unrealistic in some parts, but man that would be a good haul.
Rd 1(3): Leonard Williams - DE/DT - USC - Jags move him around the Dline
Rd 2(36): Eli Harold - DE Leo - Virginia - Similar to Cliff Avril
Rd 3(67): Cody Prewitt - FS - Mississippi - Jags Centerfielder Single High FS
Rd 4(103): David Johnson - RB - Northern Iowa - Jags version of Arian Foster
Rd 5(139): Vince Mayle - WR - Washington State - Big Slot WR
Rd 6(179): Kyle Emanuel - Otto LB/FB - North Dakota State
Rd 7(220): Justin Coleman - CB - Tennessee - Backup Slot CB

Like you said it's very unrealistic but wow that would be quite a draft. I'm super high on Perryman. That draft has 5 quality players ready to make an impact.
I don't know about David Johnson so much. Now Duke Johnson could be a feature back in Olsen's scheme, but David strikes me as a Denard Robinson clone, and we don't really need two of the same developmental gimmick back on the roster.

Huh? David Johnson is big back, I'm not seeing any similarities with Denard.
