Quote:I don't know about David Johnson so much. Now Duke Johnson could be a feature back in Olsen's scheme, but David strikes me as a Denard Robinson clone, and we don't really need two of the same developmental gimmick back on the roster.
Do you even know who David Johnson is?
Quote:Huh? David Johnson is big back, I'm not seeing any similarities with Denard.
David is big for a RB but I wouldn't call him a power back. He's a speedy former WR. I will say he's intriguing, but like Denard he tends to bounce outside and use his speed. I feel the team can use a more traditional RB who won't require quite as much developing.
Rd. 1- Trade back to 5 or 6 (hopefully) and take Vic Beasley
Rd. 2 Quinten Rollins- Free safety
Rd. 3 Denzel Perryman (LB) - So-so measureables drop him to 3rd round. A steal at this point.
Rd. 3 David Johnson (from trade) If Gordon not available in the 2nd, Jags will target him in 3rd. Love his pass catching abilities.
Rd. 4 Tyler Lockett/Rashad Greene/Ty Montgomery/Justin Hardy (in that order)
Rd. 5 Mitch Morse (O.Line depth)
Rd. 6 E.J. Bibbs (tight end)
Rd. 7 Jalston Fowler (fullback)

When was he a WR? in HS he was a RB and at UNI he was a RB.

Denard was actually impressively adept and willing to run between the tackles. I remember 3 or 4 different analysts commenting on it last season.

7 Round Mock Based off of Drafttek 7 round mock:
R1
T Leonard Williams- Just way too much potential to be a star. You find ways to utilize a player of this caliber.
R2:RB Jay Ajayi- My 3rd favorite back in the draft. Can do everything you could want from a RB.
R3:FS Damarious Randall- I like a couple of FS in this draft(Smith/Holliman), but I think he provides the most potential to be the CF FS that Bradley wants.
R4:CB Ifo Ekpre-Olomu- Late 1st round prospect prior to injury. Has a boatload of potential and in a pass happy league you can't have too many cornerbacks.
R5:OG Robert Myers- Has potential to be a very good guard in the NFL. Would add quality depth to the interior line, where we have none.
R6:WR/KR/PR Stefon Diggs- I think he could be just as good a return guy and slot WR as Lockett/Dorsett, so I like the value of getting him a couple of rounds later.
R7:TE Nick Boyle- Has all the potential to be a good blocking TE to replace Lewis, as well as the traits to be a potential mismatch receiving TE. Worth a 7th round flier behind Thomas.

Funny Thing here is that I'm doing a mock on another message board representing the Jags and my first 2 picks are the same and I'm debating Randall in the 3rd right now.

Very nice draft. I like the Ifo pick and your 100% correct, he was slated a 1st round talent and I was all for drafting him. If he is there at the #4 pick that would be equivalent to the Telvin pick last year. A steal.
Fowler went 2nd to the Titans in this one. Gurley, Gordon, Perryman, Kendricks all went in the 1st. I feel I got the best TE, best slot/KR/ PR, best edge rusher, and best FB in the draft

I don't love tevin, and id rather take the best available DT than Maxx but otherwise I like it.

This would be a great draft on paper, but will Lockett really fall to the 4th round? And is Tevin Coleman big enough to be the every-down thumper?
At this point, I see Dave going one of two ways with the draft (assuming he doesn't trade down). If he decides to go pass rusher I see the draft falling like this:
1 - Vic Beasley or Dante Fowler
2 - Jay Ajayi or TJ Yeldon (assuming Gordon is gone)
3 - Kevin Lockett or the next available slot guy
Now if Dave shocks everyone and goes WR, I see it going like this:
1 - Amare Cooper
2 - Jay Ajayi or TJ Yeldon (assuming Gordon is gone)
3 - Davis Tull
I could be way off but I am trying to read into the players we have been linked too and the guesstimated value associated with each. We are also 3 weeks away so a lot could change by then.
Here's an interesting mock from fanspeak using the cbssports.com big board order to choose from. (V Beasley went #2)
1. Vic Beasley LEO
2. Jay Ajayi RB
3. Ifo-Ekpre Olomu FS
4. Davis Tull OTTO
Round 1) Amari Cooper WR Alabama
Round 2) Eli Harold LEO Virginia
Round 3) Jay Ajayi RB
Round 4) Adrian Amos FS Penn State
Round 5) Josh Shaw CB/FS USC
Quote:Round 1) Amari Cooper WR Alabama
Round 2) Eli Harold LEO Virginia
Round 3) Jay Ajayi RB
Round 4) Adrian Amos FS Penn State
Round 5) Josh Shaw CB/FS USC
Shaw could be an intriguing FS option.
Vic Beasely -> Best DT available -> RB is looking like my ideal first 3 atm.
Football Outsiders March 27, 2015 article on Offensive Lines 2014 season
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol
Shows why the Jaguars fans shouldnt be suprised if the first two rounds go towards Offensive Linemen
They ranked last in pass protection despite a highly paid Free Agent Zane Beadles, high 1st round pick in his 2nd year LT, and hyped up Center & Guard.
They did sign FA RT backup from Dallas but is that really enough to address one of the worst Offensive Lines in the NFL? Why at #3 overall should we as fans be expecting
a defensive edge rusher or WR as the pick?
If you compare Football Outsiders Defensive Line rankings for last season
http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/dl
The Jaguars were 2nd overall in getting at the passer (bills were 1st) and 9th against the run (when grading only the defensive line)...

Because there is not an offensive lineman worth the third pick.
