JDUB IN DA HOUSE!
Quote:Richard Seymour is a better comp. Maybe Justin Smith. He is more of a 5-technique where as Suh is a 3-technique.
Seymour is probably the best comparison ive seen on this board.
I have seen several of the Oregon games on tv this year and LB Washington looks like a playmaker.  He would have good value in round 5 and is probably on the Jaguars' radar.  Drafting him would follow the format of "getting younger on defense."  The Jaguars' situation is that Geno Hayes and J T Thomas have expiring contracts.  The team is going to have to add 2 LB to the final 53 for 2015.  Are the Jaguars going to re-sign Hayes and Thomas, neither, or both?  To complicate the situation Poz has one year left on his contract.  There are a lot of decisions to be made this offseason in regards to the LB corps.

added info:

After playing in the national championship game on Monday, January 12, Washington will play in the East-West Shrine game on Saturday, 17 January.  It will be on NFLN.

I believe that LB is a position that the Jags will concentrate upon in the upcoming draft.

I like Paul Dawson in Rd 2 because of his coverage ability. I think he learns from Poz and then take over the spot in a couple of years, but in the mean time he is part of the 3rd down coverage defensive squad.

I like Akeem Ayers of the Patriots to be targeted in Free Agency, but to back him up I would love to draft Tony Washington at the top of Rd 5.

Rd 1: Leonard Williams - DE - USC (but would not mind Shane Ray)

Rd 2: Paul Dawson - ILB - TCU  (but would not mind Perryman or Kendricks)

Rd 3: Anthony Harris - FS - Va.

Rd 4: Jesse James - TE - Penn State

Rd 5: Tony Washington - Otto LB - Oregon

Rd 6: Robert Myers - OT/OG - Tenn. St

Rd 7: Isaiah Johnson  - SS - Ga. Tech

I can see the Jaguars keeping Thomas for his ability to play both outside and inside. That versitiity can be good for a backup linebacker. But with Hayes becoming a free agent, I agree we should draft an outside linebacker in May.
Today's version of my Mock Off-Season

Free Agency:

1. Charles Clay - TE - Dolphins - 6'3" 255 lbs - 26 Yrs Old - 2014 Stats: 58 Rec / 605 Yds / 3 TDs (Contract: 5 Mil/Yr)

Clay should provide Bortles a consistent target in the middle of the field to help the team stay on the field and score TDs.

2. Akeem Ayers - Otto LB - Patriots - 6'3" 255 lbs - 26 Yrs Old - 2014 Stats: 23 TT / 4 Sacks (Contract: 4 Mil/Yr)

Ayers is exactly the type player envisioned to man the Otto LB spot. He is tough against the run and can rush the passer while holding the point. - Former 2nd Rd selection for the Titans in 2011. Traded to the Patriots when due to injuries was lost in the mess that is the current Titans.

3. Derrick Newton - ORT - Texans - 6'6" 313 lbs - 28 Yrs Old (Contract: 6 Mil/Yr)

Two year starter at the ORT position for the Texans. Showed great consistency this past year. He is only now beginning to come into his own as a pass blocker and run blocker.

4. DaNorris Searcy - FS - Bills - 5'11" 207 lbs - 27 Yrs Old - 2014 Stats: 65 TT / 3 Ints (Contract: 4 Mil/Yr)

Starter for the past two seasons since taking over for Byrd who left in Free Agency to the Saints. Centerfielder - Ball Hawk

5. Perrish Cox - CB - 49ers - 6'0" 190 lbs - 28 Years Old - 2014 Stats: 53 TT - 5 Ints (Contract: 4 Mil/Yr)

Another player just coming into their own. Would compete and hopefully replace Gratz as the starting LCB.

6. Eddie Royal - WR - Chargers - 5'10" 185 lbs - 29 Yrs Old - 2014 Stats: 62 Rec / 778 Yds / 7 TDs (Contract: 5 Mil/Yr)

Veteran Slot WR that can provide Bortles with a reliable target in the middle of the field.

7. Adrian Clayborn - DE - Bucs - 6'3" 280 lbs - 27 Yrs Old - 2013 Stats: 64 TT - 5.5 Sacks - (Contract: 4 Mil/Yr)

Injuries took his entire 2014 season. Bucs did not pick up his 5th year option. Clayborn is brought in as a run stuffer at the Leo DE spot and to provide pass rush in sub packages. The intent is to compare him to Branch and then determine who wins the job and who gets shipped out.

College Draft:

Rd 1(3): Leonard Williams - 5Tech DE - USC - 6'5" 298 lbs - 2014 Stats: 80 TT / 9.5 TFL / 7 Sacks

Plug him into rotation with Red Bryant and Tyson Alualu at the 5 Tech DE position.

Rd 2(36): Paul Dawson - ILB - TCU - 6'2" 230 lbs - 2014 Stats: 136 TT / 20 TFL / 6 Sacks / 4 Ints / 9 PD / 5 QBH / 2 FF

Initially he plays in 3rd down pass defense package for Poz at the ILB position.

Rd 3(67): Anthony Harris - FS - Virginia - 6'1" 190 lbs - 2014 Stats: 108 TT / 2 TFL / 1 Sack / 2 Ints

Will be the primary backup for DaNorris Searcy at the FS spot

Rd 4(104): Jarvis Harrison - OG/OT - Texas A&M - 6'3" 325 lbs

Played both OLG and OLT this season and excelled at both. Should provide depth along every position on the Oline.

Rd 5(145): Tony Washington - Otto LB - Oregon - 6'3" 250 lbs - 2014 Stats: 53 TT / 11 TFL / 6 Sacks / 2 PD

Backup to Akeem Ayers at the Otto LB position

Rd 6(184): MyCole Pruitt - TE - Southern Illinois - 6'3" 255 lbs - 2014 Stats: 81 Rec / 861 Yds / 13 TD

Primary backup to Charles Clay as pass catching TE.

Rd 7(221): Sam Carter - SS - TCU - 6'1" 215 lbs - 2014 Stats: 55 TT / 4 Ints / 9 PD / 2 QBH

Depth at the SS position

Hmmmm... Maybe Bing will?

No search engine will. For that you have to go to Walter Football or Pro Football Focus.
We're in great position at the 3 spot. We draft Leonard or tradedown if Tenn drafts Leonard

You don't think there are a few other players worth the #3 pick? Leonard may be that good, but certainly he is not the only one. As time passes, we will find out if a hole can be filled there without reaching.

Remember a lot will change after the Senior Bowl, East-West Shrine Game, NFL Scouting Combine, and Pro Days. Someone who may seem to be a reach now may skyrocket to the top five in several mock drafts.

Do they need Leonard more than a quarterback?
Honestly, I think the Titans will trade out of Pick 2 if they don't want to take the QB.

Still Mariota has not yet declared and it is not out of the realm of possibility that he decides to stay in school.

If the Titans take Leonard Williams, then the Jags take Shane Ray.

After watching the Seahawks last night, it would not surprise me one bit if Caldwell takes Shane Ray over Leonard Williams if both are there.

I am hoping, then perhaps, Caldwell can trade Pick 3 to the Raiders for Pick 4 and their 4th Rd pick. Then Caldwell can trade back up into Rd 2 and take another premium player much like he did last year.

More and more I get the impression that Todd Gurley may fall to the Jags pick in Rd 2. I think his falling will provide an opportunity for Caldwell to move down in Rd 2 and pick up a Rd 4 selection.

I see the Jags targeting one of three LBs

1. Paul Dawson - TCU

2. Eric Kendrick - UCLA

3. Denzel Perryman - Miami

I like Paul Dawson best of the three, but the extra 4th Rd pick could be crucial to move up into the later part of Rd 2 or the later part of Rd 3 to pick that identified player that offers value and could start for the Jags.

FS will be targeted either by moving into the later part of Rd 2 or with the Jags Rd 3 pick.

ORT could also be targeted in the later part of Rd 3.

There are also several Otto LBs that could surface in the later part of Rd 2 or Rd 3 that could cause the Jags to trade up to secure them.

Quote:Do they need Leonard more than a quarterback?
Its not that they need leonard more, its that more and more people are talking about Mariota not being the sure thing right away, and winston looks like a lock at #1.
