Hopefully the Jag organization is painting a picture that no one knows anything about Blackmon in order to provide him the privacy he needs or want to get better and prepare for a week 5 or 6 resurrection
What we know about the Blackmon situation (to borrow from Joe Pesci in JFK) is a mystery wrapped in a riddle inside an enigma. We have enough to allow our suspicions and fears develop an opinion, but in truth we are all in the fog. He is a little quirky. Maybe isolation is how he copes. Maybe he is so in the grip of addiction he is using/drinking daily. We don't even know what he did. I don't think it looks good from what those closer to the situation have said publicly, but this just needs to play out. Would it be a sad waste of talent for him to let this consume him? Yes. But there is only one person who has control of his life. Hope for the best. That's all one can do.

There are those in this thread that will assume the worst, and those that are willing to hope that its getting treated once and for all.
There are those in this thread who will wire-transfer money for recently drained swampland to someone in Nigeria on the internet...........and there are some of us who are somewhat more skeptical.

Dream on.
First he has to request reinstatement. We'll know about that once it happens - which is what PFT is for.
Then, if history is any guide, he'll face another suspension, perhaps for the entire 2014 season (if he asks for reinstatement anytime soon.)
I find highly amusing these posts about Blackmon returning, like Willis Reed coming out of the tunnel to the roar of the crowd.
I've lost track of how many chances Blackmon has had

This makes no sense....he's already been serving a suspension, so why would he get another one after he applies for reinstatement?
His current suspension may carry well into, if not the whole season, but its not going to be any "new" suspension lopped on top of what he's already serving for his current infraction.
It is also too bad he wasn't around long enough to get a best friend on the team, or a committed best friend from home to keep the dealers and users away. "Personal Demons" gets used too much, its the PC term, but he is young and apparently loves to get high and he may be the type that has to get kicked out of the NFL and lose EVERYTHING before rehab takes.
I have known plenty of young alcoholics, every single one of them were Cocaine addicts first, the alcohol was used to bring them down so they could do more blow. It's always reported as Alcohol rehab by any spokesman or PR speaker, but I would be surprised if he wasn't doing the regular routine of coke and JD.
Sometimes it takes losing absolutely everything before the addict realizes what the world already knows.
It's a shame, but the team is taking the right approach, if he comes back great, but nobody is holding their breath.
If this is the first time in rehab, assuming he is in a rehab facility, to me that is not a good sign his head is in the right place. If this is a serious effort, as soon as the 2nd suspension was in effect he should have been inpatient rehab.
Waiting a year to go in detox and rehab has got to be a red flag, and an indicator he hasn't hit rock bottom yet, at least in Blackmon's mixed up brain. His chance for success and a new life are drastically reduced if getting suspended indefinitely did not wake him up immediately and permanently and admit his problem then and there.
He should have been in and out of rehab in-patient long ago, doing followups now, and getting into football shape.

That hasn't stopped you (and others) from putting those of use that are a bit more skeptical into a "haters" category. Seems a bit much, no?
I don't hate Blackmon. I sincerely hope he gets the help he needs because I think he has the talents to be one of the best in history. You choose to believe that he's changing for the better. I choose to believe that he doesn't have the desire to better himself. We value different things, and we base our opinions on different things Blackmon has said / done. It doesn't make either of us more right or more wrong. But using these weak cliches to invalidate the opinions of others doesn't help you.
This isn't one of those things that can be supported with fact since everyone is different.
I think Blackmon is suffering from more than just an addiction problem. A common characteristic of many mental disorders is the tendency for drug addiction.
You really can't put a time table on something like that and if he is in the midst of dealing with a mental issue, he really owes the public no explanation.
Mental disorders can be a very stigmatizing thing. The best thing for him may be protection from scrutiny until he gets a handle on his condition.
A lot of people are upset because he hasn't handled things in a rational way. Right now he may not be capable of handling things in a rational way.

He is currently serving a league suspension. If, at any point in time, he applies for and is granted reinstatement by the league, he still may or may not be facing a team suspension.

I've never heard of a team imposing it's own suspension on top of a league suspension. I highly doubt the NFLPA would allow double punishment for the same offense.

Why, for god's sake, would the team levy another suspension on him after this?

Also, right now staying out of the public eye and cutting off communication with people he was around when he was at his worst might be the most rational thing to do.

If he's reinstated by the league, the team isn't going to suspend him. The NFLPA would have a field day if they tried.
I wish the pre-season would start.....

If those people were a catalyst for his problem, then yes. It would be the rational thing to do.
The thing is, we've always heard how Blackmon came from good stock. He had good parents, and a good circle of friends. But, this behavior started before he got to the NFL, and he brought this circle of friends with him into the league. He had a good foundation in his life. Hopefully he can get back to that and cut out the rest.
Quote:I wish the pre-season would start.....
Yup.
Quote:Not when you consider that person's take on Blackmon over this whole ordeal. He's always been negative, so the context of that one sentence needs to be intepreted in its proper light,
I literally have no idea what you are talking about.

Semantics, really. I don't know if the NFL will call it a "new" suspension, but you're correct in the sense that it will entail more games missed. I suspect for the entire 2014 season - if Blackmon asks for reinstatement for the 2014 season. He may be in no shape to do so. And I don't mean playing shape.
I just find those "he'll be back in mid-season, I just know it" posts extreme examples of whistling past the graveyard.
Quote:If those people were a catalyst for his problem, then yes. It would be the rational thing to do.
Even if they weren't. Catalyst or not, he's having to make a break from his life as it was. Distancing yourself from all facets of that life can help some people do that.
