Whether he lied or not I'm praying for the guy to get better. I lost my grandparents to alcoholism.
Quote:Even if they weren't. Catalyst or not, he's having to make a break from his life as it was. Distancing yourself from all facets of that life can help some people do that.

Which is exactly what Justin is doing, as evidenced by the picture of him partying in the hotel suite that surfaced a few months ago.

Lost cause.
Wow...this thread is hard to read.   Maybe we should just stick to the facts.

Oh wait, there aren't any.

Lets ride my magical dragon to Neverneverland where all the scraps of information show for sure he is fixing his problems.

If you don't come along you're a hater!

I don't recall seeing that.

I looked briefly and couldn't find it. Apologists were quick to excuse Blackmon because though there was alcohol in the picture, he was not holding it. Many spun it as a resounding positive.

Dude cuts off ties with team but is caught partying without actually holding a beer at the time the picture was snapped, so obviously he is on the road to recovery.

Caught partying without actually partying in a picture that no longer exists.

Sorry. I just can't buy that.

Ahh...I gotcha. You were one of them.

Pretty sure you can't see anything but the sand your head is buried in.

The picture was out there.  I'm sure someone with a few minutes could track it down on Twitter.  Heck, there's a thread here somewhere that had the picture linked.

I also recall quite a few people who were skeptical about his rehab process based on that picture, while others did indeed use the fact that HE wasn't toting an adult beverage in the picture as a good thing.  Personally, if you're an addict, you don't hang out in a drug den.  If you're an alcoholic, you don't hang out in the clubs, especially at a point in your affliction when you're supposed to be getting help.  You try to minimize your exposure to the possibility of falling off the wagon by staying out of bars.  At the time, he wasn't.

I'm not saying it did or didn't happen, but I never saw anything on the news about that. How do we know when the picture was taken? I would think the local media would have run wild that if it were legit.

Maybe not...

Edit: The only place I recall seeing it was here.
I remember seeing the picture.  Didn't think it was that big of a deal.

It is in the context that Blackmon is distancing himself from his former lifestyle.

...Or so the naive apologists would lead you to believe.

The picture was out there on Twitter.  Now, it was supposed to have been taken after his suspension started, but there's no way of knowing that for sure.  However, there have been reports since then of Blackmon sightings at a few local haunts out at the beach.

I do know the picture was linked here, but it didn't originate on this site.

That said, I never heard word 1 about it from a local sports anchor or radio hack.

Don't you find that a bit odd?

It was discussed on 1010xl.
Quote:It is also too bad he wasn't around long enough to get a best friend on the team, or a committed best friend from home to keep the dealers and users away. "Personal Demons" gets used too much, its the PC term, but he is young and apparently loves to get high and he may be the type that has to get kicked out of the NFL and lose EVERYTHING before rehab takes.

I have known plenty of young alcoholics, every single one of them were Cocaine addicts first, the alcohol was used to bring them down so they could do more blow. It's always reported as Alcohol rehab by any spokesman or PR speaker, but I would be surprised if he wasn't doing the regular routine of coke and JD.

Sometimes it takes losing absolutely everything before the addict realizes what the world already knows.

It's a shame, but the team is taking the right approach, if he comes back great, but nobody is holding their breath.

If this is the first time in rehab, assuming he is in a rehab facility, to me that is not a good sign his head is in the right place. If this is a serious effort, as soon as the 2nd suspension was in effect he should have been inpatient rehab.

Waiting a year to go in detox and rehab has got to be a red flag, and an indicator he hasn't hit rock bottom yet, at least in Blackmon's mixed up brain. His chance for success and a new life are drastically reduced if getting suspended indefinitely did not wake him up immediately and permanently and admit his problem then and there.

He should have been in and out of rehab in-patient long ago, doing followups now, and getting into football shape.

I wonder where you got that avatar. Do you know truely what it is?

NH3...
Quote:Hopefully the Jag organization is painting a picture that no one knows anything about Blackmon in order to provide him the privacy he needs or want to get better and prepare for a week 5 or 6 resurrection

This scenario would be optimum...

Sorry you missed it, but yes... it was out there and discussed as HS said.

People were apologizing for him, noting that you couldn't tell if he was really drinking or not.

Fair assessment, but normally sober people aren't hanging around bars until closing time.  Most sober people don't want to be around the sloppy dunks that close down bars.

Me thinks he knows exactly what we are talking about, but is playing coy because he was one of the ones excusing his behavior.
There's this really weird hatefest on this board.
