Quote:Sometimes first hand evidence of where someone's life could lead to if they don't clean up is a sobering experience, no pun intended, ok, maybe it was.

As someone above mentioned, there's plenty of better choices like Chris Carter, Michael Irvin etc.

The blind man leading the blind doesn't seem like the most effective way in reaching someone who's lost.

Agreed. Jimmy is still in the middle if his journey. A guy like Irvin would be ideal. As a kid growing up in Oklahoma, Blackmon probably idolized the Cowboy great.

Thats fine, if he'd be a better choice then go with that. Just don't do "nothing".

He's not doing "nothing." Did you read the article?

I meant, from the other side...have we looked into getting someone like Carter or Irvin to talk with him?
If Gus, one of the best motivators in the NFL, picked Lewis to mentor Blackmon, I think I'll have faith in his selection.

nah....they're just trying to find some way, ANY way, to get Lewis to start actually earning something close to that ridiculous paycheck of his. :whistling:

Nothing like the dog whimperer and his agenda whoring.

Agreed. They picked a guy they've identified as a leader recognizing the challenges he's faced in his personal life. I trust Gus' judgment on this.
Poor, adorable, naive people.

Naivety for as far as the eye can see.

I have been a pretty outspoken detractor of Marcedes...but this is just so dumb.

HEY... I resent that adorable label. Also I have Four Eyes and still can't see that far... ;-)

NH3...

Thought he was still in, but I was wrong. Still don't feel that he can be anything but a cautionary tale at this point. JB needs someone who has been there and come out the other end of the tunnel.
The story is a mixed bag. It's easy to draw a negative conclusion from Blackmon's self-imposed exile but it can also be interpreted as the actions of a person who simply wants his privacy to deal with his problems.  I suspect he's highly embarrassed by the whole ordeal.  He comes from a very solid family and he's in the same area as them.  I'm sure they are providing all the support he wants. My guess is he doesn't want to present himself to the public until he's fully recovered.  Even then, I don't expect him to reveal many details about his 'away' time.  I also suspect that once he's cleared this hurdle and returns to play, he'll be a man on fire.

That's the exact same thing I took away from the piece. He's into rehab and prefers his privacy while his is away from the team. I'm sure he feels deeply ashamed of the place that he's in. Sometimes when you're in a place like that, people reaching out to you can actually be a negative, since it's a constant reminder of the ones you let down. I think that by 2015 he will again suit up for the Jaguars and hopefully will have turned the corner on his recovery for good.
Honestly, if blackmons drinking is/was that bad and he does quit, physically, he will have the ability to be in a lot better shape.

Why do you assume that Smith is out the other end and not still wandering in the dark?
Quote:Well Blackmon prolly looks at that just like I would....."who the hell is Marcedes Lewis to be some sort of mentor anyway".....

I mean, its not as if this is someone like Larry Fitz, Jerry Rice or even Jimmy Smith. Why should Blackmon respect what some scrub TE has to say???....

Personally, I think Jimmy Smith makes the most sense to try and being in, since he's truly been there, and can give an actual first hand account of what road that type of life can lead you down. ..

I think Jimmy is still fighting is his demons so probably don't want someone like that mentoring the guy at least until he gets cleaned up himself.

Lol

You had gone a bit quiet with your troll overdrive, but now you're back in the game. Good job.

Its not like Jimmy has shown he can stay clean.
