Quote:As I understand it, his contract is not moving forward while he is suspended. Therefore, should he ever become reinstated, he owes the Jags 2 more years.
I say that puts the Jags in a nice situation that he either plays for them or nobody else unless his rights are traded. So, at least this isn't a ploy on his part to find a new team. At least he is a genuine bonehead.
I believe you're correct about his contract.
I'm not sure what to think about this. If the team did task Marcedes with mentoring Blackmon, and he has been avoiding contact, going to the extent of changing his number? Not good. Still, we don't know where he's at with his rehab. Hopefully he's making progress. We will see soon enough.

I bet he's in denial.......................or a bottle of Jack Daniels.
Quote:“I tried reaching out a few times,” said Jaguars receiver Cecil Shorts. “If he responds, he responds. That doesn’t matter, as long as he knows that I care. From what I’ve heard within the last week, he’s checked into a rehab and is doing all right. That’s the extent of what I know.”
Well at least this is good news if Cecil's source is legit.
The question I'm sure we all want to know thought is what took him so long and what has he been doing going on 8 months since his suspension?

Well Blackmon prolly looks at that just like I would....."
who the hell is Marcedes Lewis to be some sort of mentor anyway".....
I mean, its not as if this is someone like Larry Fitz, Jerry Rice or even Jimmy Smith. Why should Blackmon respect what some scrub TE has to say???....
Personally, I think Jimmy Smith makes the most sense to try and being in, since he's truly been there, and can give an actual first hand account of what road that type of life can lead you down. ..

get outta here with that trash.
I took more positive than negative from the article myself.
If I was in that position I would probably be very private about it also. Also, just because he isn't reaching out to the team doesn't mean he isn't reaching out to anyone. It was mentioned at some other point that he had a roommate, that could very well be a sponsor or just a roommate at an in-care rehab facility.
Quote:That's an bet that you would undoubatly win...
I too believe that B14CKMON is destined to exonerate himself. The Jaguars refusal to dismiss him even when the NFL says that we could speaks volumes. They may know something that we the fans don't know...
Time Will Tell...
NH3...
How does it speak volumes? To release him would simply be stupid. He costs the team nothing while under suspension, nor does he take up a roster spot. There is absolutely zero need or reason to let him go.
I doubt the team knows much that we don't, but they don't need to.

Is Jimmy gonna mentor him during visitation? I don't think a guy who is still obviously struggling with his own demons and addiction is the best choice for the job. I dislike Cris Carter, but he would be a good person for Blackmon to talk with.

You do understand it has nothing to do with on field play, right? The team asked Lewis to mentor him. I'm sure they felt he was the right choice or that wouldn't have been the case. I know you've got an obsession with Lewis, but you're being ridiculous here.
Lewis himself explained the reasoning. It makes sense. The team isn't going to reach out to Jimmy Smith. Talk about Blackmon saying "who is this guy?" Jimmy Smith is just a name to Blackmon. Lewis is a teammate. Big difference.

Sorry, until I've seen something to suggest he's changed, I'll assume he hasn't.

Agreed. The fact that he's reportedly in rehab is a positive sign, even if it's taken this long for him to admit he's got a problem and he's seeking help. That's a huge first step. Hopefully he's able to out the demons behind him. There's just too much talent there. It would be a horrible shame to see it snuffed out because of his addictions. What a great story it would be if he regained control and got back on track with his career.

I'd figure Jimmy would actually carry some cred on the issue since he's literally actually been there, in addition to having the respect of Blackmon due to what Smith accomplished at his same on-field position in the NFL.

Jimmy hasn't been in a locker room in how long? He's nothing to Blackmon.

Jimmy is still dealing with his demons. A current drug addict mentoring a current substance abuser...
Sounds legit.

You don't think as a kid, that Blackmon wasn't aware of/ fan of a player like Jimmy Smith? Especially given the position he plays?? I think the above guess is just that, an assumption.

Sometimes first hand evidence of where someone's life could lead to if they don't clean up is a sobering experience, no pun intended, ok, maybe it was.

I doubt it based on where he grew up. He had far more recognizable players playing the same position much closer to Oklahoma.
