What truly made Jacksonville my favorite NFL team more than anything else was the commitment to avoiding troublemakers so that none would be on the roster. As awful as Gene Smith was, I loved this about him: When someone got in trouble, he was cut, and when a troublemaker was available, he got no job offers from the Jaguars. So I normally would say, "Cut Justin Blackmon after his suspension is over." But after reading the NFL.com article that states all of the Jaguars love Blackmon as a person, no matter what he does off the field, and the team will do everything possible ot help him fix his drug problem so he can be a better man, I decided to give him a pass. All the guys who were cut after running into trouble were not that good anyway and deserved to be cut. Blackmon, on the other paw, deserves another chance. David Caldwell's statement was exactly the right thing to say. If the team does not help Blackmon stop abusing alcohol or using a banned drug, he will continue to make those mistakes for the rest of his life. He needs to stay in Jacksonville to get the help he needs. That is all I have to say about it.

We will not give up on J Black nor should we. He is one of the best young WR's in the game and WILL be elite.

The positives - 1. If there ever was a year to have a monumental set back dealing with his addiction, this was it.

                        2. This is a substance abuse problem. He is not a wife - beater, drug dealer or gun runner. Like the justice system people with money and the proper support have access to programs common citizens do not when it comes to treatment. This regime will not turn it's back on J Black.

                        3. We are all but assured of the top pick next year where J Black will be given his once and final opportunity with a competent QB under center.

                        4. The kid is 23! Better to go through this at 23 rather than 28, 29 etc.

Quote:Yeah, but Jimmy had a long and great career. Matt Jones at least was in the league for multiple seasons. Blackmon could be done before he's even played in 20 games. Much like R Jay who was a complete waste of a pick.
The difference between R.J. Soward and Blackmon is that one was a complete bust, and an arrogant individual, while the other is actually a really good player who is actually well liked by the fans and coaches, but just gets caught up in these tragic situations.

What in the hell did we do to deserve this?!?
Virgins? In Jacksonville?

It's all about perception. Blackmon's arrogance is in that he thinks he can do whatever he wants as long as he plays football. R Jay thought he could do anything he wanted period.

They're not that far apart, really. Both guys are putting their own pleasure before the team.
Its my fault. I drafted him on a few fantasy football teams. I guess I will have to go back to my previous strategy of picking players from AFCS opponents, for when my team ultimately suffers constant perennial player injury/ loss.

I got rid of them a long time ago.
Blackmon could have owned this city:

Quote:Welp, there goes a lot of the hope that this team could make a turnaround with Bridgewater because we had a young star WR. We have absolutely zero positions of strength on this roster now. Becausejaguars.

There's still a reasonable chance that Blackmon gets through this to become Bridgewater's best target.

Tebow, maybe?

Well said.

Yes, but we can't know.  Blackmon is an absolute wild card and we don't know where his rock bottom or turning point is.  You would think a 4 game suspension would get through, now he's getting 8.  We'll see if it helps.

Maybe Bridgewater's presence will help Blackmon. Per all accounts Bridgewater is a class act on an off the field.
Sad, really, for everyone.

NEVER ask that question!!!!!

It won't.

The way fate so enjoys mocking the Jaguars, he'll come through this with flying colors either when he's finally out of the league, or at minimum, away from the Jaguars, probably on a hated team like the Titans.

pssssh I've got a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow for anyone that bought that line.

Tebow is probably one of the reasons there are so few virgins in Jacksonville.

I swear this team is cursed.

Blackmon will be cut.  You can't rebuild a team with a player like this.

Just flat out stupidity.

I know a guy who knows a guy that worked at a walgreens that Tebows mom shopped at, he says you'd be correct in that assupmtion
