Quote:No, I do support him ... Just noting the "Give him a break, he is good enough to deserve that opportunity" ... Which isn't all that much unlike affording a good defense versus a public defense attorney.

So many fans ready to forgive Blackmon on the same day of his suspension for nothing more than his upside to play the game ... If he were a Titans player? ... Burnt at the stake on this board
Sadly, for many it's more about winning than about how you play the game.  I wonder if he would still be getting all the love, support and forgiveness if the team was in contention for a playoff spot?

“It’s not in our nature to just to turn our back on one of our members that needs our help.”

He will have about 10 months to prove he has really changed before next training camp, I think its the right move, we are not going anywhere right now might as well keep him around and get him help, instead of turning your back on him.

Edit to add ... Has Kenny Britt been Rae Carruth(ish)?  I wouldn't quite tie Pacman in with those two (Hernandez/Carruth)
Not fair to compare Britt to Carruth, Hernandez or even Pacman. Atitude problem and contract squabbles do not justify a comparison to true gangsters.
Wish I had his talent, I'd be 100% choir boy off the field.

I remember after the signing many fools on this board said it was definitely a Khan imperative selection. That Khan said to sign Blackmon because Gene would never sign a guy with behavioral problems. Now that he's suspended twice, those same people are blaming Gene.SMH.

No advantage to cutting him, he's under contract for next to nothing now.

I'm not really the one to first interject other players deeds to prop up another player (Blackmon) ... I guess we should research when that first happened. I was just going with the flow. Wink

Who do you replace your 1st round pick from 2012 with?

The times you have impressed me the most Mad Dog were the few times you didn't have to point it out.
Quote:Maybe, that's a nicer way to put it anyway.  I always laugh at these guys that throw away such great opportunities.  Pretty hilarious, to throw away millions of dollars.

Yep, I am quite sure when he was dreaming of being an NFL player, he was also planning on getting hooked on something to ruin his career.

Yep, dats funny den a mug! <_<
Has Jimmy Smith been mentoring him behind the scenes?

I answered before researching Britt. He is a bad dude but still not fair to compare his situation to J Black.
I wonder how Khan and Bradley feel after all this. I know Gus mentioned how much Blackmon has improved and then he gets slapped in the face almost 6 months later.
For those wondering the financial impact:

Quote:Combining the four-game suspension with the eight-game suspension, Blackmon lost $966,000 in base salary.

He also forfeits $1.33 million of signing bonus money for the 12 games missed in 2013, and he jeopardizes $3 million in signing-bonus money that was carved out of his signing bonus and converted to 2014 and 2015 roster bonuses.

That’s a total cost for now of $2.296

million, plus another possible $3.09 million if he doesn’t return to the league, or if the Jaguars cut him. He’ll also lose base salary of $2.072 million and $2.914 million if he doesn’t return to the NFL, or if he’s cut by the Jaguars.

So JB has already forfeited about 2 million due to suspensions this year and has another 5 million in jeopardy if he is cut or not reinstated next year.

Gene Smith apologists still exist? Are you also Bernie Madoff apologists?
Well Blackmon is going to remain a Jaguar. http://www.jaguars.com/news/article-Jagu...ce2256fdf4

The only thing to do is hope for the best.  He has the talent just does not have the mindset.  I know from experience marijuana is not addicting. If it indeed was marijuana again, you can't blame that on addiction but stupidity.

Not alone, Matt Jones has been helping.
Demonstrated over and over again that he won't learn from his mistakes.  Eventually it comes a time that you have to cut ties.
