Quote:That didn't take long ... Catch a ball ... Free Pass. Tongue

That right there is why you don't give up on a guy. Elite players deserve elite exemptions.  Tongue

The NFL should make special rules for the players that get caught up in tragic situations ... well, as long as they are good. Tongue

Because he made note of all the bad things JB hasn't done ... yet? ... and he might be worth special forgiveness if he is good ... with a gooder QB?  Tongue

Never seen this much forgiveness coming. ... As long as he is good of course. Wink
Sammy , J Black is not Pacman Jones, Aaron Hernandez or Rae Carruth.

With all his set backs he has yet to hurt this franchise because we have been so low since his arrival. Cannot lose what you never had.( double negative not" gooder "I know)

Besides his addiction you never here of any trouble from this guy .

Your responses are slightly cryptic. Do you support this guy yes or no? Maybe you answered but I lost it in the sea of posts that inundated this thread.

How would everybody feel if the Jaguars were 8-0 rather than 0-8?  What if Blackmon was a huge part of the 8-0 mark?

I'd be far more upset with Blackmon if the Jaguars were 8-0 because the consequences might negate what could have been a Championship season. Fortunately the Jaguars are 0-8 wherein I take the loss in much the same way I did Joeckel going on IR. Neither player would really make a difference on the outcome of the season. Of course there is a worry that he'll never overcome his demons, but releasing him does nobody any good. I'd like to see the team do everything it can to see to it that Blackmon overcomes this. There's still hope for him, and the last thing we need is to see him go off to another team only to set record after record with some elite QB throwing him the ball.

Quote:This has to be the hardest of any NFL team on its fans.

Mercy, what else can happen?
We win four games in the latter half of the season. Gus Bradley crows about the great progress made, and we wind up with the fourth overall pick, guaranteeing that when draftniks talk about Bridgewater, Clowney, Mariota and everyone else, we get the first pick of "everyone else".
Quote:Agreed, except I really don't have any confidence that he's going to shake it at this point. I wonder if he still thinks he doesn't have a problem.
If he voluntarily walks into a rehab facility by Monday and says "Don't let me out until I'm cured", then he gets it.  If not, then no, he doesn't admit it and never will.
Quote:We have the worst QB situations in the NFL and Bridgewater is one of the top QB prospects of the last decade.

You need to accept it. He will be the face of our franchise. Not that scrub samoan kid.

Am I to take it that you agree with TMD that Teddy can walk on water? And cure drug addicts?

Sounds like the Tebowites.

Quote:I apologize if this was already answered on one of the first 16 pages, but does anyone here know if players are tested for and can be suspended for alcohol alone? What is the NFL policy in that regard?

I asked the same question and the replies were: Weed, most likely and probably alcohol. In other words, nobody knows they are just speculating.

I think being stupid is his problem.
Quote:Why cut him? This is a business. Use his talent next year, if he violates again, we dont have to pay him. Its in his contract. And no other team would be able to use his talents either. I see a win/win as far as next season goes.

Besides, you have to be dumb not to draft any WRs next draft.

Do we know what his contract situation is?

This is his 2nd suspension, I cant believe this uber strict contract we supposedly signed him too allows him to get suspended 3 times before we can cut him without having to pay him.

Well we can cut ties with him and not pay him a cent. If he gets banned, according to the program, we owe him nothing.

Oh, if it were that easy.

You don't get "cured", you get helped. He's still got to do the heavy lifting. It won't be easy.

He's still got to pass all the tests he'll be subjected to before he can ask for reinstatement. Will we even know if he fails one of those?

Not quite true. Releasing a player changes guarantees a bit--just ask the Patriots as they jerk around with Aaron Hernandez's grievance.

Agreed JQ...

I see this situation as more of Support than Forgiveness...

The decision the team must make is whether or not they believe he can come back without any further incidents. If it's a 50/50 likelihood of another positive test then you cut him and move on because you need to free up a roster spot for another guy. As long as Blackmon is on the team we will use a draft pick on a replacement "just in case" which is not a favorable option.

I never said it was easy, I said it would tell if he's still in denial.  The first step in curing/helping a problem is admitting you have a problem.

If you don't see him playing football again it's probably safe to assume he failed one.

No, I do support him ... Just noting the "Give him a break, he is good enough to deserve that opportunity" ... Which isn't all that much unlike affording a good defense versus a public defense attorney.

So many fans ready to forgive Blackmon on the same day of his suspension for nothing more than his upside to play the game ... If he were a Titans player? ... Burnt at the stake on this board  ... Hard to look down our noses just to feel better about ourselves. Isn't it?

Edit to add ... Has Kenny Britt been Rae Carruth(ish)?  I wouldn't quite tie Pacman in with those two (Hernandez/Carruth)

My Sentiments Exactly w/respect to utilizing a draft pick for his replacemnt as I eluded to prior. Hopefully M. Brown can somewhat sub for B14CKMON but it's evident that he, B14CKMON is one of a kind w/respect to his skill set...

O.K., this is a One of a Kind Reversal. Our WR Core is deep enough to NOT warrant an High Draft Pick to replace B14CKMON. PLay the players that we already pocess and make an evaluation upon individual performances...

Well said however it is more than just that he is good enough, he is also not bad enough in other tangible areas to justify throwing this kid away. If we were to combine his current transgressions with say a domestic violence charge then we are staring at a different animal.

If he were a Titan's player? I disagree with this concept a little bit here. Had the Titan's been victim of this I would surely not blame them for sticking with him.

Finally I will agree with you somewhat that we are turning a blind eye because of his potential. He is definitely a benefactor of being in the right place at the right time. If there is any franchise that has to dig under a rock to find reasons not to give up on players it would be ours. Hopefully this kid takes this last amnesty gift and runs with it. We sure do need him to be who we drafted him to be.
