Honestly though, we're almost back to square one at the WR position next year.  There is NO way you can count on Justin as being in this thing.

Quote:No idea. The NFL doesn't realize that information. All we know is that it's a DUI that got him into the program.

BTW, Jarred Allen was one alcohol infraction away from an year long suspension when he hit FA a few years ago.

Jared Allen was traded for high picks while he was one strike away from big suspensions, too.

To anyone implying guys can't be traded because they've been in the substance abuse program it's not true. It might have been more difficult, but I hope Caldwell did his due dilligence.

some holes are going to naturally develop on any roster, we've seen WR, RB and TE naturally develop into new positions of need for this next offseason. That's a pretty tall task

Thats why you essentially plan on not having him. Draft someone, add a FA, and then if you do get Blackmon here, its a bonus.

We're running out of draft picks to address all our needs.

there's no way to draft all the fixes to this team not in 7 drafts. we're going to have to develop some, draft others and sign free agents.
Quote:or he has a serious problem.

TMD is right on this one.  We're totally right to be frustrated.  But our first concern should for JB as a human being.  I pray he gets the help he needs.

As others have said, Jags need to prepare as if he will not be part of the future.  Then, if he can come back clean and stay clean, his talent is a bonus.
Add Hakeem Nicks or Jeremy Maclin to the Free Agency shopping cart.

Say what you want, but speaking purely football wise - this could be a blessing in disguise as the Jags were winning multiple games down the stretch with Blackmon for those last 8. Too many winnable contests.

Bridgewater will be hard not to get now.

Quote:Release him yesterday...what's up with us and WR's with substance abuse problems...RJ SOWARD, Matt jones, JIMMY SMITH, now Justin Blackmon, another wasted Gene draft pick.....JUST CUT HIM.
Ill say the bold claim, We should keep him. He is incredible talent clearly needs guidance. If we draft/find a proven leader on the offensive side of the ball, a guy who can jerk him by the collar and wise him up, we will be better off that way.

Bright side- we got the first pick locked now
Quote:Apparently me, TMD and James_fried_chicken have even a basic knowledge of how addiction works.

Some people here who celebrate another person's issues are insecure with themselves.
Quote:I don't think he can be suspended under the drug policy for drinking.
just speculating, but it may have been part of his contract that alcohol be considered with the rest of the substances that are in league policy since he had the two dui's before they negotiated... alcohol, green or buggar sugar doesn't matter to me, it is still disappointing to see this guys talent wasted like this.

This, especially since either might be cheaper than expected.

You're insane. With Henne and Gabbert at QB this team wasn't winning any games, period.
It looks like this suspension has been in the works for a while:

Quote:The eight-game suspension strongly suggests, based on the language of the substance-abuse policy, that the penalty was the result of a negotiation between the NFL and the NFLPA.

Blackmon, as we understand it, was in Stage 3 of the league’s substance-abuse program. Violation of the policy while in Stage Three ordinarily results in a banishment with the ability to re-apply after a calendar year. The union and/or Blackmon’s representatives apparently persuaded the league to trim the return date in half.

Still, Blackmon must remain clean throughout his suspension, since he remains subject to unannounced testing up to 10 times per month. Any further slip-ups will make it harder for him to secure reinstatement in 2014.

Jared Allen had 43 sacks in 4 years including 15.5 sacks the previous year when he was traded. He was the premier player at a premium position. Blackmon was (and is) a second year player with barely a 1,000 yards to his name playing a position where you can get other players at the drop of a hat. The two situations aren't even remotely the same.

agreed i hope he gets the help he needs and can overcome what ever he is dealing with... it sucks to watch him destroy his career like this.

you still thinking this team wins a game or two? I don't see how we avoid 0-16 at this point

Actually with another hole on the team, Dave might think harder about a trade back to stock pile picks with as many holes as we have.
Quote:He should have gone through the process of fixing his addiction the first time, even if it took a year.

Addictions don't go away overnight or if you have a lot of money.
