Peoples head will explode if Tampa or the Giants go 0-16 right along with us and we end up picking 2nd or 3rd.

Still don't get how anyone thinks he is even remotely on Teddy's level. He's a very athletic kid with good size. He still looks incredibly raw and could use a lot of work on mechanics. I'm not even confident he would be a day 1 starter on many teams outside of the Jaguars. The one thing I really like about him is his arm strength.

I'm sorry but he's really all measurables. I'd take him late first 2nd but no higher. He's going to need a ton of development. I don't even think is better than Kaepernick coming out. He's big and fast, and has a nice arm but nothing wows me.
Measurables sell you tickets, intangibles win you superbowls

You're allowed to like whatever players you like.  Personally I'm not a fan of Mariota.  Would rather trade down and get Boyd if we're picking and Bridgewater is gone.

I'm liking Boyd.  Does he even last beyond the top 5?

We can trade from 2 to 5.  Maybe pick up a 2nd or 3rd.

I'm thinking so because he's considered short and the highest he'll probably go is 2nd half of the 1st.
All the "running" QBs seem to have a good first year or so but then the leagues catches up to them.  As of right now give me Teddy!

Quote:Let's end this debate right now.

If the Colts got a chance to redo the draft, would they take the high football IQ, great leader, very polished Andrew Luck, or the very athletic and fast Robert Griffin III?

That pretty much does slam the door for the argument shut. Unless people just want to argue for the sake of arguing.....

Yep. Mariota only makes sense for a few of the NFL teams, one being Chip Kelly's.

Blaine Gabbert was drafted on measurables, too

In saying a prospect is "all measurables" you are suggesting he doesn't have the production to match. Except he does.
See TMD I would consider your argument against Mariota, had you not been all excited over the prospect of having him on this team before seeing him play and saying he reminds you of Gabbert.

It appears it's you that's arguing for the sake of arguing.

I'm still trying to figure out how Mariota is barely averaging 60% completion with the insanely high amount of swing/screen plays they call. If it wasn't for massively wide open downfield passes to Addison all season his YPC and Total yards would be much much lower.

I know the Cal game was a monsoon but he had two screen pass TDs and a 1 yard rushing TD and it was considered a good game.

Making a post or 2 (and thats all it was) about his potential inclusion on the team pending a screwup and winning meaningless games does not constitute "being all excited" about Mariota.

I didn't start posting extensively about Mariota until seeing footage of the player, in which he reminds me of most other QB of that ilk, of that system.

Its not arguing for the sake of arguing.

If anything, perhaps I should have just never even made the few onocuous posts which included Mariota as a possibility.

Its better than posting a 70 yard rushing play as a "pro" for Mariota, when that play would NEVER wind up happening in the NFL. Never.

Mariota scares me I need to see more, is he a product of the system and he is a soph., yes he has the speed the size the arm, but Teddy has that too but plays in a pro style system and is a Jr.

Quote:I see some Gabbert in Mariota.

Flame away!

Bridgewater is better and easily more pro ready.
Really can agree there Gabbert had a great Soph year, Big, Tall, strong arm, runs a 4.5 but was lost one he went into a pro style offense

Right now Mariota is a risk

I'm hoping that Tampa is stupid enough to draft Mariota 1st overall, (based on the impending blowup at the combine) which easily sways idiots to focus on that crap that doesn't matter, so then we can have Bridgewater fall right in our laps.

So then, ....why can't you agree there?....

Also, I wouldn't label Gabbert's sophomore season as "great". Whats so great about hitting your first read all the time on 5-10 yard screens/ short passes?

Chase Daniel dwarfed Gabbert's sophomore numbers while in the same system, and he's nothing more than a backup QB in the NFL, as well.

I meant I can agree there my bad
I've been lambasted for saying this on Twitter but I am genuinely curious what Gabbert would have been like in college his final season if he was playing for this Oregon team instead of Mizzou.

Mariota is a better prospects with better downfield accuracy but I think Gabbert would have been a good fit for the offense.
