Mariota would probably pull in more ladies, so that should be factored in

Quote:I still need to see more from mariotta. A big concern for me is his accuracy. I believe it's around 56% which is very low, especially in a spread offense. I also don't know about how high his football IQ.

There is really nothing in Teddy's game that you can say is a weakness. Teddy is smart, tough, has the size, a leader, accurate, great pocket poise and plays in a pro-style offense. To me teddy is still by far the number 1 overall prospect.
they say arm strength is teddys weakness and his weight, he is a slender lad and i can imagine one big hit from suggs could crush him

on mariota, accuracy is the problem i have with him, the guy is lightening on his feet, but his accuracy is a bit all over the place and he sometimes misses receivers by a country mile. I also think his receivers pad his stats a fair bit with yards after the catch as they are very talented and the offense does not give the opposition time to get set.

I would rather have bridgewater and a bit more accuracy to less mobility as kaepernick has not been as prolific this year now teams are more ready for the qb run.
I'll put it this way as these were the only comparisons I have to players already in the league.

Teddy, is a Luck type, he can play under center, shotgun-spread, whatever and make all the throws. He has great mobility but will sit in the pocket and make his reads. He has elite pocket presence and good vision. Excels in short, intermediate routes, decent in the long range game.

Mariota, is a Kaepernick type. Extremely athletic, great size, but raw. Will probably need work from under center. Can make all the throws.

Which one do you want?

Teddy, but Mariota will draw an undeniable amount of interest.
"The MMQB's Peter King believes Oregon redshirt sophomore QB Marcus Mariota has a legitimate shot at being the No. 1 overall pick.

We aren't surprised and we would agree. "...at least two teams love Mariota to the point that I believe if he comes out those teams would have him higher on their board than Bridgewater," King writes. Mariota has experience in a decisive and versatile offense, which will attract many NFL evaluators. He really is the complete package. Our Josh Norris has ranked him as the No. 2 draft-eligible passer since the summer"

Peter King:

Quote:I think, after watching a good bit of college football over the weekend, I can picture Marcus Mariota throwing to Justin Blackmon over the corners of the AFC South for years to come, if Blackmon can find a way to stay on the straight and narrow after his dangerous dalliances with alcohol. (You can tell I’m dubious.) But as I said on NBC Sunday night, what was once a virtual certainty—either Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater or South Carolina pass rusher Jadaveon Clowney being the first pick in the draft next May—is now in doubt. Mariota will be draft-eligible next May (as will many other attractive quarterbacks, including Johnny Manziel) because he’s in his third college season out of high school. And at least two teams love Mariota to the point that I believe if he comes out those teams would have him higher on their board than Bridgewater.

And so it begins.

Really though he is just saying what we've already been discussing on this board. Personally, I like them both and don't have a drawn in the sand preference.
I love Teddy Bridgewater as a prospect, but Marcus Mariota will be the most dynamic QB to come into the league in a long time. He runs a legit 4.4 at 6'4 225 LB's, he has a cannon for an arm and contrary to what some have said on this board is extremely accurate, he goes through his progressions and looks comfortable in the pocket, he can beat you with his arms and legs. I don't like the Colin Kaepernick comparisons simply because Mariota is a more polished passer than what Kaepernick was coming out of Nevada, to my amateur eye, Mariota reads the entire field while going through his progressions, Kaepernick while at Nevada usually read one side of the field and if it wasn't open, took off with his legs. What's scary about Mariota is he's really young and is getting better, his upside is of epic proportions and I wouldn't be surprised if he went #1 assuming he comes out.

I see more RGIII/Vick than Kaepernick.

I agree, and it's because Mariota is a more polished passer with breakaway speed, a bigger version of RGIII.

Possibly the love child of the two. He has the speed of Vick but is much more polished than him coming out of college, like RG3.
Quote:Teddy is still over 70% on the year. Mariotta on the other hand hasn't thrown a pick yet.

That doesn't necessarily mean much....Gabbert didn't throw many picks early in his career, either....that happens when you are afraid to be aggressive.

Quote:I know Mariota has the all measurables that we all love. But this is a game that, for the quarterback, is won and lost between the ears. Trust me, you want a qb who comes from a pro style offense. They have a better understanding of what the concepts and what is required of them. Kaepernick has been exposed this season as well as RG3, both of their stats of dropped. Keep in mind that qbs who run the option are football players and can get hit now per NFL clarification. If you don't get Bridgewater, get Murray. But if you think that read-option offense is consistent enough to stay, you are setting yourselves back. What makes bridgewater good is whats between his ears more than anything. Stick with that. You'll benefit sooner and for a more sustained time period.

I agree with this.

Funny thing is....Jags fans are mostly all assuming that if we don't get the #1 overall, that Tampa's getting Bridgewater.....who knows?....maybe THEY (Tampa) choose Mariota #1 overall, and let Teddy slide to 2.

Have you seen much of mariota, TMD?
Bridgewater please. I want a QB that can fit in a traditional pro style offense. Mariota may be able to but Bridgewater is much more polished in the pocket IMO.
I think a lot of people forget when people said that RG3 and Kap were physically more gifted qbs than Luck (which is true). That should have very little bearing when comparing a qb who comes from a pro-style offense to one coming from the spread. If you chose Mariota and miss Bridgewater, we are gonna be very disappointing in the long run.

The kid has some skills for sure... but give me Bridgewater

I see some Gabbert in Mariota.

Flame away!

Bridgewater is better and easily more pro ready.

I like Teddy more but be real. Nothing alike.

I was gonna say... We drafted a young man out of Missouri not too long ago based almost entirely off of his potential.
