Not a big difference, but there are the stats.

Mariota also played against 3 passing defenses ranked in the lower third of teams in the NCAA all of them ranked worse than 100.

OOPS!!!!!!

haha Marcus Mariota lovers/ Teddy haters...  'breathers...

Just ranking it on passing defense is cherry picking evidence but it is closer than I gave it credit for. Quite honestly, stats mean little. Ryan leaf and Gabbert both had good college stats and look how effective they are.

Bottomline, I want the best QB and if Caldwell deems that Bridgewater is the one then I'll trust him. If he fails, Ill grab my pitchfork. Simple as that.

Gabbert didn't have good college stats.
Quote:This was an issue for Kaepernick too, but seems to be working out fine, for now at least.

Kaep has 57% accuracy and less than 200 yds per game so far this season.  That means that of all QB's who have taken a snap this season, Kaep ranks 45th in completion percentage, and 35th in yards per game.  He's thrown 9 TD's and 5 INT's so far this season.  By comparison, Sam Bradford is having a much better year than Kaep with 60.7% completion, 241 yards per game, and 14/4 TD/INT ration.

Perception is everything.  Kaep isn't doing as well as people think as far as the passing game goes.

Cherry picking? You're the one trying to say that Bridgewater has no competition at all compared to MM. That's just not correct.

You also have to factor in how many weapons MM is surrounded by and style of offense that he plays in. Don't get me wrong, I like MM and would be fine with him, but to say that he's better than Teddy based on level of competition is way off base.

My point was, since he's such a dual threat, it makes the offense work, even though he's not the most accurate.

Eventually, he does need to operate better in the pocket, but for now, it's working quite well for the 49ers.

I added total defense as well.

Grown men talk like this?
Yes....the 49ers defense is winning games...I agree.

I love how some folks throw out blanket false statements (ie: playing against shrimps) yet when faced with FACTS cry "cherrypicking"....Mariota is just David Garrard on a better college team.

pretty close to it.

Maybe a better runner thats all.

Not a better passer though. Scary thought.

You watch alot of Garrard in college?

You watch a lot of Mariota now?
If a team offers a kings ransom for Bridgewater I have a pretty good feeling Caldwell will take the deal.

Example:

Arizona picks at #11 and offers to swap the #11 pick for our #1 overall, and their 3rd, 5th and 6th this year, and their 1st round picks in 2015, 2016.

This team has too many holes and he has preached building thru the draft. I would take this deal in a heartbeat and use the ammunition to move up for Winston next year.

Unless the team with the first pick is not as dumb and draft Winston for itself.

ding ding ding ding!!!

Of course you go into it with a backup plan. You either draft the best available QB at #11 or in the 2nd round this year.

Yes. He's nothing like Garrard.

Caldwell and Bradley can't afford to captain a team that'll finish with one of the two worst records in the NFL for a third straight season. This isn't the NBA. After Jacksonville goes 1-15 (at best) this year, they'll need a face to build around and show that the horrors of the Gabbert era were actually worth it.

The team with the first pick this year won't pass on getting Bridgewater for themselves, just like the team with the first pick in 2015 won't pass on getting Winston for themselves.

You should only trade for a King's Ransom if you think the pick won't turn out.  If you pass on Bridgewater and he works out, you're going to likely end up regretting it.  All you really end up getting for next year with this deal are 3 extra picks.  With the shape this team is in now, that's not going to help a lot -- especially when only one of them is before the 4th round.  And you end up dropping ten spots in the 1st round at that, meaning bottom of the Top 10 talent.

If this team doesn't win at least 3 games next year, I don't see this staff lasting long.

No chance. They are taking their QB this spring. If they get the first pick, it's Bridgewater.
