What's funny is I think everyone in this forum prefers Bridgewater to Mariota, but to dismiss Mariota as a product of the Oregons offense is silly.
"The MMQB's Peter King believes Oregon redshirt sophomore QB Marcus Mariota has a legitimate shot at being the No. 1 overall pick".
We aren't surprised and we would agree. ..."at least two teams love Mariota to the point that I believe if he comes out those teams would have him higher on their board than Bridgewater," King writes. Mariota has experience in a decisive and versatile offense, which will attract many NFL evaluators. He really is the complete package. Our Josh Norris has ranked him as the No. 2 draft-eligible passer since the summer".

Quote:If we're running Oregon's offense next year, then by all means, draft Mariota. And as I've said on here three times, no one is saying take Mariota over Teddy...but it's not written in stone that we have the #1 pick. If somehow we draft and Teddy isn't on the board then Mariota is a damn good prospect too and no one should be upset with him. He has tons of skills that will translate in time to running an NFL offense. He might not be a week one plug and play but he is also 19 so I wouldn't want him to anyway. I have very little doubt that he will be a very good NFL player for a very long time.
If were running a pro style offense, you'd have to be a jackass to choose Mariota over Teddy.

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler spoke with one NFC personnel exec who "gushed" about the 2014 QB class.
"His smile seemed to grow with every quarterback we discussed, including Oregon's Marcus Mariota who might have garnered the greatest grin," Brugler adds. As we've seen in other reports, up to nine quarterbacks could draw first-round grades from teams. Obviously certain underclassmen have to declare, but evaluators like what they have seen early on.

Clearly he's the best qb in the draft based on that alone
That's the only highlight of him that I have seen and I am sold.
Please hold on, I am trying to catch my breath. That task is made more difficult by the fact that I do not breathe through my nose.

I still don't think he transitions well into the NFL, so yeah I'd be upset with him. Would much rather have Tajh Boyd at this point. I mean if we draft him, I'll root for him to succeed just like I did with Gabbert. I just don't think it'll happen -- but I could very well be wrong.
We're not even sure Mariota is going to declare this year are we?

You could say the same about Bridgewater.

I agree. We may need a 16 page hundley thread.

Bridgewater is a Junior, not a sophomore. And it's been stated several times it's very likely he declares. He's graduating this year too.

I think he will. Just no guarantee.

Dude it's a guarantee, he graduates in December, he took out a $10million insurance policy earlier this year, he's declaring for the 2014 NFL Draft.

Yeah, Teddy is coming out. It's a virtual certainty.

Be careful throwing that around. You know what happened last time.

I know. That crossed my mind as I posted.

OK I just got done watching 2013 cut ups of Brett Hundley's passes and attempts this year and I'm really failing to see the hype. He loves the checkdown, struggles completing passes over 15+ yards, and when he senses pressure his mechanics go to hell and he throws off his back foot. If we are going to compare anyone to Gabbert.....its him. Oh and the Jags scouts are expected to be at UCLA this week.

UCLA also has a good OLB, a good guard, and a pretty good receiver Hundley probably isn't the only guy they'll be looking at.

It doesn't matter.
My point is, even if we do not get the #1 overall pick and need to settle on a fall back option, the only way Mariota makes sense is if we are going to run an offense similar to what he ran in Oregon. Otherwise, you're risking another Gabbert situation.
People bring up RG3, but Washington tweaked their offense to accomodate RG3 and what he ran in Baylor.
With our offense we are going to need a QB that is similar to the strengths that Teddy brings, even if we don't get Teddy.

One can only hope. Barr would be wonderful to have on this team. I like Cassius Marsh too.
