Quote:That does seem ludicrous when you put it that way. The guy was younger than a lot of the guys they were coaching/drafting/letting go.

Was beyond dumb. Set up for failure from the get go.

By all accounts he is a smart offensive mind and Tom Brady endorses him greatly.  Sign him as HC only and I'm good with it.

The question is what connections does he have for OC/DC and his staff?  That's important and we saw that with Gus and his low level coordinator/staffing.
Suprised we havent heard about Scott Linehan.

Mike McCoy and Nolan in Denver.

Not too worried about it tbh.

I'm hearing the #Jaguars are expected to request permission to interview #Patriots DC Matt Patricia in the near future.

He is my #1 choice.

Fwiw, several players have told me following the Colts loss that they would be open to Marrone getting the full-time gig with the #Jaguars.

He'd be my 4th choice. I think it would be best for the team to have completely new faces
The last time the Jags started the interview process, I don't remember them getting this many interviews this early. Good sign?

The best candidate was Jay Gruden followed by a bunch of nobodies. So yeah, Id say this is a good sign.
@mike-kaye Caldwell kept his meeting w/ the players "short and to the point." Told them to return in shape and he would inform them of the HC hire.
@jasoncole Informal poll of 7 NFL execs ranking current open jobs:

1. Broncos (unanimous)

2. Jaguars

3. Chargers

4. Rams

5. 49ers

6. Bills

I would probably flip 2 and 3.

The assistants are important and I wasn't sure what his connections and relationships were.

McDaniels as HC, McCoy as OC and Phillips as DC?

While I'd be inclined to agree there, the Jags also play in a much less competitive division than SD. I'm sure that's a part of it.

If we are gonna bring in McCoy, I'd rather have Mike Smith.

I think that's a big part.

San diego might be moving soon.  On top of that their franchise QB is old now.  I like the listing the way it is

Id take Rivers over Bortles any day of the week.

Yea. Right now.

Rivers is amazing but he's old. Chargers got Bosa and Gordon so that's two good young pieces.

Rivers is no doubt better than Bortles.  Rivers on the other hand Rivers is 35 while bortles is 24.
