smoke screen.  Look at the guys about me.  Could just be an opinion.  To make numbers. And get a reaction.

A lot of you are overrating Hooker, and this is me saying him as someone who likes him and thinks he's an elite prospect. However, he is not that much better than Adams if at all. Adams is a lot more well rounded than Hooker, Hooker is just the better high free safety. Hooker takes terrible angles at times that will remind you a lot of Cyprien pre-this season. Adams hits harder, can play both in the box and high as opposed to Hooker who can/should only play high, and just like Hooker Adams has tremendous ball skills. Either one would be a good pick for a cover 2. Adams would be like Landon Collins. Hooker would be like Eric Weddle. You can't go wrong.

Except he said it as if it was a fact. He didn't say it as if it was an opinion. He obviously has inside information that they are getting the deal done.

If you don't want to believe it that's fine, but this isn't an opinion lol. This is just an insider/someone with sources saying it before it's became official...just like how it always happens.
Quote:They looked awfully bad vs Cowboys.
The Bucs defense is a terrible matchup against that OL. They have a ton of small linebackers and a lack of talent in the secondary. Before that game they had a long stretch of impressive performances that nearly got them to the playoffs.
Mike Smith is perfect for the Jaguars. Mediocre at best. Fits them like a glove.

Screw this team as hard as possible.
Quote:Moving Gipson to strong safety is [BLEEP]. Gipson should never be playing close to the LOS period. If we let Cyp walk we should draft Jamal Adams unless we cut Gipson which isn't happening.
The SS wouldnt play close to the LOS both safeties are deep CB play man to man, think Panthers defense, Luke Kuechly is the guy covering short area and making those tackles so that would be Myles Jack

Obviously you change looks up, but thats the base of that defense

The Cowboys made a lot of defenses look awfully bad this year. Everyone accept the Giants.

I agree.

Medicore? He took the Falcons out of the cellar they had been in for decades and gave them their first stretch of winning seasons in like 20 years. To say he is just mediocre is not fair.

At least one of the safeties still has to be able to come down and make plays in the run game. Having two safeties who suck at it is not a recipe for success.
@ryanohalloran One year from right now, #Jaguars  coach Kyle Shanahan will send Bortles out for coin toss with one order, "We don't ever defer."
Guess we'll see if this follows through or if it's another smoke screen tomorrow. Haven't heard any more interviews coming so should be close. Keep an eye out ppl
What exactly is disappointing and mediocre about Mike Smith other than that he is not the brand new shiny toy like Shanahan?
I sent tweet doubt responds back but will see.

There will never be a consensus regardless of who the coach turns out to be.

It's exactly that.

One is a retread, one hasn't been a HC and is a good OC. The unknown of Shanahan gets people excited, whereas people know Mike Smith didn't get it done in the playoffs round 1 so he's "mediocre".

There really is nothing mediocre at all about what he did to Atlanta. Just let them have their time now. If Mike Smith gets us around or above .500 this year, everyone will be loving the hell out of him.

They had made the playoffs three times in the decade prior to Mike Smith's arrival and one of those included a trip to the Super Bowl. However, he did give them their first back to back winning seasons in franchise history (which is a mind boggling stat since they've been around since 1966).
Before we conclude it is in fact mike smith. who other then him could it have been?   That no one is talking bout?

Quote:Do Phillips and Smith even have the same defensive philosophy?

Answer: No.

Has smith ran a 3-4 before as HC. Yes
Fact of the matter is, not many HC's in their first gig get it done. Mike Smith was the 2nd fastest HC to 60 wins, multiple double digit winning seasons, turned around a bad situation when he stepped in their into a great one, etc.

Like I said before when I had this discussion, if that's mediocre, sign me up right now.
Mike Smith is the man. Delighted if its true.
