Gurley is a great back.  If their oline was just halfway decent he would be putting up numbers with the best in the league.

I was kind of being sarcastic there as Allen is almost unanimously considered an elite prospect. From everything I hear about this class, it sounds like an average one. A few elite prospects, some really deep positions, and others without any real good prospects.

Give Gurley an average line instead of the putrid one he has in Los Angeles and I believe you'll see a highly productive player. That said, I feel like these conversations would be better served in the NFL draft section instead of a topic about our opening at head coach.

I don't think anyone lives life thru hindsight. If we're playing that game, Howard would have probably gone top 10 if teams envisioned the production he put up this year.

The fact of the matter is Gurley was severily out performed by his backup this year, a guy by the name of Benny Cunningham. It becomes pretty evident why he outperformed Gurley when you watch them play. Cunningham (while not as gifted athletically as Gurley) has the ability to make guys miss at the LOS, an attribute crucial to success at this level as giant running lanes are rare, this compensates for average line play and is what made Adrian Peterson so great. It's not just about having "speed and power", RB's have to be "creators" at this level, Gurley isn't a consistent creator. The advanced metrics also back up my argument as Gurley was one of the worst backs in the league at making guys miss.

I don't doubt his speed and power, I question his ability to make guys miss in small spaces and most importantly at the LOS. Both of which are crucial to success in the NFL, it doesn't matter how "big/fast/powerful" a back is if he can't create yards when yards aren't there. If the Jags decide to take a back that high (they won't) its Dalvin Cook and it's not close, as he's a guy who can create, accelerate, and run away from defenses.

Cunningham had one game with more than 3 carries this season. I'd hardly call his grand total of 21 carries throughout the entire season a large enough sample size to make any sort of judgement on Cunningham or indictment on Gurley using them.

LOL, you are not looking like you have the slightest clue about what you are talking about.  You are starting to just make stuff up.  Cunningham had 21 carries for the whole year and got 101 yards, on 2 of those runs he gained half of those yards.   LOL
