Quote:We don't need to trade the kid. Honestly, I don't think the majority of this fanbase wants to see that. We all want to see this kid consistently produce behemoth like numbers for our offense on a more consistent basis without the excess baggage.
What makes things even worse, and I can agree with most folks on this subject here as well, is that, if he really, REALLY has a problem. What's his excuse for not getting it addressed then? Because he obviously has the money to get it done, and he obviously has the NFL's benefits of programs to help him clean up his act if he REALLY needs it. A lot of people in this world would love to have that on the table as an option, but they can't afford it. Or don't have that type of support around them.
Nobody is saying he can't have a life either. I am twenty-five years old, I go out every other weekend with my fiance and our friends, but we do it responsibly and don't get ourselves into stupid situations ever other month. And I have far LESS to lose than this guy does. It just frustrates me to see a kid with his talent potentially blunder it.
For all we know he's spent the last several months getting help to overcome his problem. Until we know for sure, all speculation and talk of trade is pointless. Not lecturing you, just using your post for a spring board.

Hearing that "he's a young man" excuse is tiresome. Because it's not a good enough of excuse for what he's done in the past. And I have far LESS to lose than this guy does. It just frustrates me to see a kid with his talent potentially blunder it.
Maybe he just needs to get married.....maybe that will settle him down.
Quote:Making headlines because of a tire blowout. A tire blowout....If it was you or me, or even Chad Henne, it wouldn't be a story,
He's making headlines because it occured at 3:30 AM, and this is probably the fourth or fifth time now over the last three to four years that his name has been mentioned with some sort of involvement with police on the scene. Whether it was alcohol related or a tire blowout, it still doesn't make it any easier or take away the fact that he has a pretty bad record and image so far when it comes between the hours of 1 AM - 6 AM.
Quote:Queue Team Excuse with the stock naive responses like "He's a young man...He can be out that late...a lot of young men do things in the middle of the night that don't involve alcohol...he's allowed to have a life...etc etc etc".
Quote:Everyone seems to be buttblasted by the fact that Blackmon, like many people his age, do not conform to unwritten curfews.
Quote:Its ridiculous. Who of us wasn't out and about at that time at that age. He'll settle down as he ages....
I actually think its a good sign that he seems to be able to hang out without alcohol/ drugs now. Its a step in the right direction. For him, a big step.
Like moths to a flame...
If this blowout happened at 3:30 pm, this would be a non issue to me. This won't get him cut, traded, or suspended, but its definitely hard to see us passing on a WR in the draft in a deep class. Blackmon needs to become reliable to this franchise, which means he needs to start carrying himself more as a professional rather than a college student
Wow, im surprised at a lot of reactions to this. So quick to judge someone for driving a car at..gasp..3:30am. There was no drinking involved and no drugs, a case of bad luck only. I'm shocked some of you are so quick to throw so much hate at him. He has made some mistakes in the past and is trying to atone for them, obviously some people on this board are so infallible that they feel they are this man's judge and jury. Maybe in the future you will wait to get ALL the facts of the case before rushing to judgment. I say be thankful he and no one else were injured and that he was sober.
The pattern has changed. Last year this would have been a tire blow out + a DUI. Now it's just a tire blow out. It's a step, a small one, but a step nonetheless in the right direction.

I wouldn't want us passing on a WR in this deep class had Blackmon never had one suspension ever and was squeaky clean.

Thats how I see it too.

I am with you, brotha. Its sickening.
Why is it assumed that being out at 3:30 AM involves nefarious actions?
Anyway, trading or cutting him is a bad move. If we can't have him then certainly don't let anyone else have him. He's too talented for that.

No harm, no foul. And you're right. It is speculation. And for all we know, maybe he has taken the steps to get it done. At the end of the day, I don't want to see him or anybody else get hurt. Especially a kid with that much talent. I am just saying, based on his previous issues, when a headline reads "Justin Blackmon, 3:30 AM, Car Accident" people will have the tendency to now identify and tag him and that headline to alcohol related and so forth. It's sad but true. Maybe this is just one of those freak accidents like Suh had a few years ago when he had his car accident. Or Big Ben's motorcyle spill. Things happen.
He had a tire blow out people chill. He wasn't drunk or on drugs.

Yeah really, hell I was out on the road last night around three 3, wasn't drunk or on drugs just driving home from a friends house.
I love the "this is a non issue" crowd...
I can just see Dave Caldwell drinking his coffee and reading the newspaper. He flips to a page and sees a headline:
"Justin Blackmon Involved In Accident At 3:30 AM"
His brow furrows. He reads on:
"Alcohol and drugs are not thought to have been involved"
Meh! he says with a shoulder shrug. He flips to Dear Abby and sips his coffee.
Not seeing the big deal if he had no alcohol or drugs in his system. Nobody knows where he was coming from or where he was going to. Could be that he just likes driving at night. I have a cousin that prefers to drive at night, so he goes out late. His dad does too, and he's in his 60's.
But no! Obviously he was out late. We should cut/trade him immediately! He's been suspended, so he should know better than being out on the road with no alcohol in his system at 3:30 in the morning.

No way bro... that'll just lead him to more drinking and late night expeditions my friend... the key is, stay engaged forever, don't get married. I am only half-way committed. I can back out of my deal at any time I want guilt free and still keep the house.

Really....too talented????
I haven't seen it alot, but that might be because he only played in 4 games last year. Also, we have no idea when he will be reinstated this year.
What has he shown to make people believe he will change? He said he would change in college, got busted before draft. Said he would change as a pro, and got busted after his rookie season. Said he would change again, and is now on an indefinite suspension.....
So why not get something for him now? After this season he only has one year left on his contract assuming he doesn't get in trouble again.

I bet you thats pretty much what happen, except maybe, more of deep exhale and a "Oh thank god!"

I bet not.

Here is another thing to consider too though, it's still 3:30 AM, and eventhough it was a tire blowout, what's there to say that he wasn't on his way out to perhaps drink some alcohol? I am trying to put myself in his shoes.
I am not a parent, or a General Manager, but that would be my first instinct and question anyways, "What in the heck are you doing out on the road at 3:30 AM?, you're a professional athlete, and it's the off-season, and you're suspended at the moment, where were you going and headed? And why? And should I now alter or adjust my draftboard?". And that's exactly how I would approach the kid, man-to-man. And I don't think Caldwell is just going to "shrug" this off. It still raises red flags because of the time of day. Like an earlier poster had stated, if it was 3:30 PM, it's a completely different story. But it wasn't. Just doesn't make any sense.
