I can just see Dave Caldwell drinking his coffee and reading the newspaper. He flips to a page and sees a headline:

"Justin Blackmon Involved In Accident At 3:30 AM"

His brow furrows. He reads on:

"Alcohol and drugs are not thought to have been involved"

Meh! he says with a shoulder shrug. He flips to Dear Abby and sips his coffee.

No, I'm sure his reaction was...

"Out at 3:30 in the morning?!  There's absolutely no hope for this kid!  I don't care if Drugs and alcohol were involved, there's no reason for kids to be out that late!  Someone get me Gus Bradley on the phone.  I want to make sure this team knows they will be in bed by midnight!  Also get me the Patriots, it's time to make a trade."
Quote:Really....too talented????

I haven't seen it alot, but that might be because he only played in 4 games last year. Also, we have no idea when he will be reinstated this year.

What has he shown to make people believe he will change? He said he would change in college, got busted before draft. Said he would change as a pro, and got busted and his rookie season. Said he would change again, and is now on an indefinite suspension.....

So why not get something for him now? After this season he only has one year left on his contract assuming he doesn't get in trouble again.

What do you think teams are willing to give up for JB? His actions greatly reduce his value, so there's no chance of getting a fair trade. Plus, he has potential to be outstanding.

Would you really like to see him go be outstanding somewhere else? He might even burn Jacksonville in a few games, depending on where he goes.

But it's okay because Jacksonville got a late round pick or whatever right?
Quote:Here is another thing to consider too though, it's still 3:30 AM, and eventhough it was a tire blowout, what's there to say that he wasn't on his way out to perhaps drink some alcohol? I am trying to put myself in his shoes.

I am not a parent, or a General Manager, but that would be my first instinct and question anyways, "What in the heck are you doing out on the road at 3:30 AM?, you're a professional athlete, and it's the off-season, and you're suspended at the moment, where were you going and headed? And why? And should I now alter or adjust my draftboard?". And that's exactly how I would approach the kid, man-to-man. And I don't think Caldwell is just going to "shrug" this off. It still raises red flags because of the time of day. Like an earlier poster had stated, if it was 3:30 PM, it's a completely different story. But it wasn't. Just doesn't make any sense.

Isn't last call at 2:00 AM?

Excuse me while I completely ignore:

* DUI citation in college

* .24 DUI citation shortly after being drafted

* Suspended buy the NFL for 4 games

* Suspended by the league indefinitely

Aquip Talib was able to get a 4th round pick and he was in the last year of his contract and still had to serve a 4 game suspension.

I am pretty sure we could get at least that, but we will see. I would much rather have him on the team, but it doesn't really help if he can't get on the field for us.
Blackmon is going to be a big part of our Superbowl run; and when he does... Well, we all know this board.. Idiots will be back on his kissing his praise again.

The good news is he's safe from the accident and in Jacksonville surrounding himself with support

lol

Ignorance is bliss.

...And it appears you are having a blast.
The assumptions are getting out of hand. It's Friday night and he's 24. He may have been traveling to Jax and got in late for all we know. Or maybe he was hanging out at a buddy's house and was heading home. The point is, we don't know.

If he was out, I think it's a HUGE deal that he may have figured out a way to enjoy himself while maintaining sobriety. We can worry about his NFL future later.
Nobody knows why he was out at 3:30 am. If you're going to assume you might as well assume he paid off the cops to not arrest him for alcohol. Geez......................

I'm not that old, and its pretty frustrating that someone that can lose as much as him is still out at that time....

Some people value time with their friends more than money.

I don't see how that has any relevance to Blackmon being out at 3:30 in the morning.  If he was found with alcohol or drugs in his system, then that's a major concern.  If he was just out, regardless of his past record, and no alcohol or drugs were found in his system... then I'm not seeing an issue.

But I'm sure Roger Goodell will, and will obviously bring down the hammer on him.  I'm sure that's coming, right?

He should have paid him more to not tell anybody the story.
If it wasn't for his Houston game nobody would care if we traded him

He's already suspended INDEFINITELY…This probably helps his case to be reinstated…right?

You know, like the others have indicated, Roger will probably see the police report and say, "Hey, out that late and no alcohol involved…He must be rehabilitated!"
Quote:Wow, as I said before, some people here won't be satisfied until this man is on another team having his hall of fame career....smh...

Look at the jumping to conclusions in this thread, and it was totally unfounded.

Maybe instead of ultra quick judging, you should be happy that he didn't get hurt and that he's fine.

There was no alcohol or drugs involved (allegedly), so I see it as nothing more than some back luck. Or can't a tire blowout happen to anyone?...

I agree with you on this one.
Such a waste of talent. The guy had the city of Jacksonville in the palm of his hands when he got drafted. He was going to be the face of the franchise and he [BAD WORD REMOVED] it away.

There was no alcohol or drugs involved. His tire blew out and he lost control of his car. No reason to whine and moan about it now. Move along.

I don't have any reason to believe he will ever play for the team again.
Quote:@ryanohalloran: If Blackmon is back in the area, news to most #Jaguars -- they thought he was in Oklahoma.

This is honestly the thing that worries me the most. If this is true, obviously.

If Blackmon's been telling the team he's been getting help and sorting his life out in Oklahoma, and he's just randomly in Jacksonville without telling anyone, what does that say about the line of communication between the team and Blackmon?

Obviously players are allowed to go and do whatever they want, so long as its legal. But given the fact that he's currently suspended indefinitely, and its his second suspension, one would imagine the guy would make more of an effort to work with the team to get everything sorted out. Showing up in the town where your employer's located, when they expect you to be in a completely different area, and not telling them just smells fishy to me. Obviously I'll support Blackmon because he's a Jag and I'm not going to advocate cutting him or anything.

But for someone under a microscope as large as the one Blackmon is, getting into an accident at 3:30 AM when the team expects you to be in a completely different state just doesn't seem like a good look.

@CushCam: For what it's worth, I do know for a fact that #Jaguars WR Justin Blackmon has been training at a local facility for the last few weeks.
My sources tell me that he was drinking heavily that night.

He had really gone overboard on the Gus juice. Big Grin
