Quote:Well said.
I don't see Watkins as some transcendent talent for the position at all. I think he's just another good receiver.
There's just too many instances where teams have found WR's later in the draft, guys that have gone on to have great careers. People are comparing Sammy Watkins (as a prospect) to AJ Green, and Calvin Johnson, he's not in the same stratosphere of those two players, he's (to me) is a mixture of Torrey Smith and Percy Harvin, and while I like both of those players a lot, neither was worth the third overall pick.
Quote:If you believe Sammy Watkins is a transcendent talent (like Clowney is a DE), head and shoulders abover every other receiver prospect in this draft, you take him, I don't believe that. I like Watkins, but feel there's better value in the later rounds at WR, if Clowney is gone and we can't find a partner to trade back with, I'd rather take Khalil Mack.
You could use the same logic and say just take Attaouchu or Van Noy at 39 instead of Mack at 3.

I'm with you on the above. Thats actually a pretty good description of Sammy as well. I actually read somewhere where even HE sees himself as a Torrey Smith type....and its not like thats not good - it is. But as you state - he's not Calvin Johnson, and he's not AJ Green, nor ever will be.
He's going to be another good WR in this league.
Not worth selecting at 3.

Well...don't need to twist my arm on that particular one...

Of course you can, but Mack is a much better player than J Attaouchu, I can't say the same thing about Watkins compared to the other WR prospects.

It's all a matter of opinion. It's all good and it'll all be over in 8 days.

Of course it is, nothing wrong with disagreeing, as long as it's done in a mature matter. One things for sure, I'll be buying a jersey of whoever the Jaguars select 3rd overall.
If Watkins is there at #3....there are rumors that Detroit or San Fran would consider moving up for him. I believe the 9ers have lots of picks. If we trade down, we could possibly go QB. On a side note....I see Watkins in a class by himself as far as the WRs are concerned.

I don't get the Detroit thing. They are hardly "a player away" and they just signed Tate. Seems like they still have a ton of holes they need to fill.
At one point I remember Caldwell saying you don't necessarily have to take the best player at a position to improve your roster. This leads me to think we won't be drafting Watkins because several wide receivers later in the draft would still improve the team while allowing us to take a position with less depth at pick 3 such as Khalil Mack.

If you believe in Stafford, then they are close. Their secondary needs some improvement and they probably want another WR, but other than that they are pretty solid all around.
Lageman and Boselli doing the Jaguars Thursday mock draft right now on 1010XL. They both mocked Sammy at #3 for the Jags.
Well, we do need true playmakers on offense and there's no guarantee on when or if Blackmon returns (and for how long before gone again...)
It's one of several picks that make complete sense. (Clowney, Mack, Watkins, Robinson, Matthews, trade out...)
Maybe I'm going crazy here, but if a guy has Torrey Smith's overall game mixed with Percy Harvin's speed -- that's a superstar worthy of the third pick.

That is why pretty much everybody has him locked into the top four picks.

agree i think he will be explosive

Yep me too.

Switch these around. He runs with the ball like Percy.
I still believe the Jags will get Watkins or Clowney, then trade picks to move up and select a QB later in the first.
The 12th Annual 1010XL Media Mock Draft is going on right now. Tampa just picked (Evans). Earlier.....Jags picked Sammy Watkins. Right afterwards the Browns picked Mack.
