Quote:Watkins is faster.

Yeah, and on the field does Blackmon ever have any issues taking long plays to the house, despite that? Blackmon's game speed is obviously faster than his "timed" speed, but the "combine" people care little about that....

Not at Blackmons pro day. He ran a 4.39.
This is a bit dated but possibly still relevant...

This whole argument is stupid.  So what if Blackmon is better?  He doesn't play atm.  Even is he is better, that doesn't make Watkins less worthy of a top 5 pick.  All it means is that Blackmon is good.

Watch the games.  Watkins has been an unbelievable player beginning in his freshman year.

Quote:To some, maybe....I know in watching Blackmon in college I had no doubt his game translated well to the NFL. I knew Blackmon was going to walk right in and produce in the BIG BOY league right off the bat. I don't have that same feeling in watchign Watkins.

To some? Try almost everybody.

Watkins averaged 8.48 YAC in his final year.

Blackmon averaged 6.56.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id...n-blackmon

794 YAC total over 121 receptions.
I should hope so. 70% of his receptions were screens and passes under 5 yards from scrimmage. He won't be getting YAC like that in the pros with plays like that. Linebackers in the NFL are too fast for that and CBs are too well versed in bubble screens. He is going to have to develop a whole different set of skills to get receptions in the pros.

Even with good coaching, some people never develop a proficiency for the more complex route running that is required in the NFL. Another reason I don't like him at #3.

Nothing about Watkins game is "unbelievable".

He's just another very good receiver, and this year - that coincides with a receiver-heavy draft. Taking him 3rd would be a dumb move, especially for a team in our situation. (rebuilding)

TMD, you have barely seen him play.  How would you know?

It's not a dumb move because he is the most sure bet at receiver, WHICH WE NEED.

There is depth at WR in this draft, but there is also going to be a run on them. One of the mocks I saw the other day had 9 going in the first round. No idea who will still be available with our picks in rounds 2-4.

He's good at pretending.

I've heard 12

Very good point

You are a clown trying to have a different opinion than others so you can come back if Watkins turns out to be a bust just to be the first to say "I told ya so."

Watkins' ability to score every time he touches the ball is what makes his game unbelievable. That's something we don't have on offense.

4.39 was reported by some. Either way, the speed difference is pretty much negligible.

This is stupid, I've seen enough to make that statement. You act like you need to watch all 30+ of his college games from beginning to end to harbor opinions about a player. I've watched several of his games in college and have watched  most of his youtube cut ups. Sorry, I don't see where the gushing is coming from. As said, in watching Blackmon in college, and many of his intermediate and deeper receptions he would make and then after those longer catches, still make moves on defenders to tack on extra yardage or take plays to the house, yeah - he looked like a guy that was going to be a big time impact player in the NFL, if not right away even....I do not get that feeling by watching Sammy Watkins and his 70% short pass / screen crap. Can I tell Sammy is talented? Sure, but he's not this "special" player that some of you insist. I definitely don't see Sammy as being all that successful right out of the gate. At least IMO. We'll see who winds up right.

He won't be scoring on every bubble screen.

Most can see what he is doing.

He's against Mack and Watkins, the most likely picks, at 3.

Says he'd take guys (Bridgewater, Matthews) that have no shot at being the pick at 3.

Same game he plays every single year.

Players who make first team All-American as a freshman are special.

So you are against 7 yard gains?
