Quote:I look at them as somewhat similar as "speed guys". I think  WR like Evans or Benjamin would "compliment" Austin much better.
I can actually agree with that. You have to balance your chi, otherwise you get situations like the Eagles where you've got two speed guys that aren't very effective when they're both on the field.

But I also believe Watkins isn't a one trick pony, so who knows/

Also welcome back my friend

Quote:Believe me.....they are.....but they need an OT badly as well.....they have 2 picks in the first round so I think they will address both of those positions

Would be interesting if they go Robinson/Matthews first and Evans later or if they go Watkins first and an OT later in the round.

Like I keep saying, the Rams have no reason to trade down. Just use those two picks and enjoy being able to pick twice in the first round from a pretty deep draft.

Thanks!

I think the Jags need to draft a WR somewhere in the top 4 rounds, as well. Can't assume Blackmon can be counted on. If he can be, then great, but I'd view him as a luxury at this point.

I like Paul Richardson out of Colorado in the 3rd round. He's been called Desean Jackson 2.0 and Jacksonville desperately needs reliable speed on the outside.

I really think the draft is deep enough at receiver that the best receiver selected this year won't be selected in the first, and I think Paul Richardson will be close
Quote:Well, Caldwell was with ATL when they drafted Julio Jones...

The only issue with that is that they already had a franchise QB in place. We don't...yet.

With my luck we never will... sorry guys

On a team without weapons......Watkins would be no luxury

You mis-read what I wrote.

You draft when available, not when convenient.  You get the best when they're in your lap.  You don't pass just because you don't have this or that piece.

If you focus on one spot you can end up neglecting others if you're losing value at both spots.  Instead, you improve every position and don't wait on the one.  That's how Seattle was able to get over the top when their QB emerged.  The rest of the puzzle was already in place.

If he grades out highest on the board, you take him.  Especially if you don't expect the QBs available can be "the guy."  Otherwise, you address that position the best you can and try to keep improving it as players become available to you.  But you certainly don't sacrifice the chance of getting a special player (as Watkins is considered to be) for a "QB purgatory" QB as Kjaggy describes them.

Correct....Blackmon would be considered a luxury if he came back. I think that he will.

I agree. I think Dave is going BAP for sure.....especially in the 1st round.
Wide receiver class is way too deep to be picking one when there are greater needs to be met.
This dude has magic hands.. there's something special about him catching a ball.

Sammy Watkins is one of the best receiving prospects in the last 8-10 years, he's arguably the best player in the draft and will likely be the BAP when the Jaguars are on the clock, there's a realistic chance he'll be wearing a Jaguar uniform in 2014.

Sammy Watkins is Justin Blackmon with Olympic speed.

Ummm... one of the best? How many people are you putting on that list?

He's not better than Calvin, AJ Green, Julio Jones, Larry Fitzgerald...
How crazy would it be if we drafted Sammy and his brother Jaylen? There can't be that many instances of two brothers being drafted on the same team in the same draft.

NFL Media analyst Mike Mayock said Clemson WR Sammy Watkins is one of the "best wide receivers he's seen on tape in the last decade."
"Because his combine was so good a couple weeks ago, I think all he's going to do is catch the football (at Clemson's pro day Thursday), and if he doesn't get hurt, he's a top-10 pick," Mayock said. Coming from Mayock, that is a raving review for the Clemson wide receiver. With big names like A.J. Green, Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, Larry Fitzgerald, and Julio Jones drafted in the last decade that puts him among some highly elite company. Mar 6 - 11:01 AM

I agree with this sentiment.

He is in the same conversation as them.. yes. That is how good Sammy Watkins is. Almost a sure-thing pick.

Sammy Watkins, Justin Blackmon, & Cecil Shorts= the best receiving core in football
