Quote:Watching a replay of the Clemson Florida St game on ESPNU right now. I think if we fall out of the top 10 in the draft we should really consider him. The speed he has in unreal. We would have a scary WR core.
Tajh Boyd, on the other hand, no way.
I wouldn't pick Sammy in the top ten and I don't think he falls out. If we do drop into the early teens I hope we consider one of the great move tight end prospects.
Ebron or Amaro would mean a lot for this offense.
Sammy Watkins is intriquing, but, in my mind, more a pick if the other more critical pieces such as QB and Leo are already in place.
Quote:Based on what little I know, I suggest he is a track guy suited in a football uniform. Routes? Hands?
The best WR in college football that I've seen this year is Texas A&M's Mike Evans. I have seen a lot of video on others.
easily the best wr in the draft, he is a beast that bails out manziel quite a bit. the size of a tight end with the athletic ability of a wr. would look nice playing an aaron hernandez type role on the field.
Sammy Watkins is a luxury pick...our team cannot afford to use a first round pick on a luxury guy when there are far more pressing needs.
Quote:Not sure about that. Could be.
The thing is, both Watkins and Evans would give the Jags WR corps something that it lacks....i.e. a true burner in Watkins, and a big red zone target type in Evans.
I like both but I really think we need the burner Watkins more to loosen things underneath where Blackmon, Shorts and Saunders will exploit.
Watkins reminds me of Torrey smith. Valuable, but sort of a one trick pony. Mike Evans can be a one man wrecking crew and do it all. I can't really think of anyone in the NFL that his game is similar to.
I don't really see the jaguars taking a wr but if they do I would much prefer Evans to Watkins.
Truthfully I have seen much of Watkins and Evans they both do look good from what little I have seen though. I agree having a burner on the team will open up a lot of options for us and we could pick up someone like Mccarron in the 2nd who would look really good with all the options available for him.
Another option available if we're picking like 7th/8th, and you want to go for need, would be a trade down with say the Rams, who picked Matthews early on, as they would also be looking for a deep threat..we can then pick up someone like Amaro with their latter pick and benefit from an extra 2nd/3rd?
Sammy Watkins with a monster game last night. 16 catches. 227 yards. 2 TDs. The sideline screen that they used over and over. He was unstoppable. I'm sure more than ever he's going to be a very special player. I would love to have him here.
Quote:Lol dude that was a whole lot of explaining for one of the most well known prospects in the draft. We know very well who he is and what he excels at.
I had never heard of him before the Orange Bowl.
I'm seeing him more and more lately in the mock drafts. Top ten. Two of the last that I saw today had him going #4 to Cleveland. If Dave's QB or DE is gone by the time we pick, I'd absolutely love to see him go to us.
He's awesome and I wouldn't be mad with him at 3 whatsoever, but I think it's a luxury that Dave won't think we can afford right now. If it isn't QB or pass rusher I'll be shocked.

You're probably right.....I would be surprised......but if he did......part of me would say.....YES!
We can't take a WR this early in the draft with more pressing needs. There's a chance guys like Lee fall to the second. Plus we can't pass up a guy like Barr. We could also sign a wide receiver. I know there's a couple decent ones in FA. But WR doesn't become the first position we draft.
How important is a guy like Calvin Johnson to his team? AJ Green? We have NO offensive weapons on this team. Getting a weapon is not a luxury pick. Of course, if Clowney is there or the QB that Dave wants, then you gotta go that route. But if the value is not there, a [BLEEP] like Watkins would be an acceptable option.

Sammy is very, very good...but he's not an ultra elite prospect like those two, Dez, Demaryius, Julio.
Those of you referring to Watkins as a one trick pony really need to watch a Clemson game. Watkins has everything but size, but it's not like he is small.
KYJaggy, Watkins is very much on the prospect level of Dez Bryant and Julio Jones. He is a better prospect than Thomas. All 4 of them are below A.J. Green and Calvin Johnson.
I'd rank them (in terms of prospects)
Calvin Johnson
A.J. Green
Julio Jones
Sammy Watkins
Dez Bryant
Marqise Lee
Justin Blackmon
Michael Crabtree
Demayrius Thomas
Mike Evans
That being said, I am NOT taking a WR in the first round of this draft. There is a lot depth in this WR class. I am not talking about 4th and 5th round filler, I'm talking about a handful of guys that would potentially be 1st round picks in other years.
Allen Robinson, Paul Richardson, Brandin Cooks, Davante Adams, and several others are guys with 1st/2nd round talent that might drop simply due to the large # of WRs.
Quote:He runs terrible routes and takes full advantange of Manziel running around until he is open downfield for a jump ball. He is easily bodied (my term for being hit easily and moved around once hit or during a catch. For example Megatron is rarely bodied on a catch-hit whereas Shorts is routinely rocked hard) despite his size and doesnt have elite or even amazing hands in terms of college receivers.
Watkins is 2x the receiver he is and so is Blackmon and its not close. Not trying to attack you as a poster but Evans isnt very good and im having trouble seeing why people think otherwise.
Personally i agree with haterade. We need way more than WR and if anything in the pass catching department it needs to be a big time seam stretch TE in the mold of Cameron Jordan.
Evans is a combination of body-control, size, and hands talent. He's probably the most NFL-ready WR in the draft this year. I don't know much about his character, but his talent is obvious.
Watkins is just 6-1, 205 Lbs. I have reviewed lots of video of Sammy. I don't see much of a route-runner at all. I see a lag-behind track guy, who thrives with just a couple of repetitiously-run plays, and a jet receiver that may, or may not be a viable deep threat in the NFL.
It will be interesting to see his posted time at the Combine.
I don't see Sammy as a particularly great pair of hands. He dropped several easy passes a'la stone-hands. I see a lot of nervousness in the body language prior to reception. This suggests that Sammy is not a naturally gifted receiver, and every pass thrown his way has the potential to be a wild adventure.
I didn't see a single case where Sammy was challenged by bump and run. I think NFL DBs are much better than Watkins. They should be able to erase him out fairly easy. The potential for pick sixes off Watkins is delicious.

So what you are saying is that Sammy Watkins is an undersized WR who is a bad route runner with bad hands, who cannot create separation? Why do you think most scouts have him going in to top half of the 1st round, then?

The two latest mocks......Walter Football & New NFL Draft.......have him going #4 to Cleveland......thus pairing him with Josh Gordon
